Murphy expressed dissatisfaction with the third installment, directed by John Landis, citing a lack of emotional depth compared to its predecessors. He mentioned that numerous scripts and producers tried to revive the franchise, but success only came when Jerry Bruckheimer, the original producer, rejoined the project.
