As someone who has watched this show, off and on, since season 1; I believe Ryan is making the right decision. Van has always appeared (to me) to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You know, that person who smiles in your face, cheering you on, while awaiting your demise and, secretly, taking pleasure in your pain. Don’t agree? Watch any episode, during which something happened to or for Ryan (whether good or bad), and pay close attention to Van’s reactions/responses. You know when someone is TRULY FOR YOU.

His business took a huge financial hit having to pay that money. If his business has insurance, he is paying a lot for premiums now. Van ran away, knowing that he wouldn't be technically held at fault, but the business and the business owner. I'd do the same if I was Ryan, I would erase him from my business and personal life.

funny how in the first few seasons VAN was always like this is OUR shop, not just RYAN and wanted the same amount of say in the business and the minute he did a bad tattoo that landed the shop in court, it wasn't HIS shop anymore, it was Ryan's. Didn't even do the right thing by his FRIEND when he refused to show up in court and now the shop owner has to pay 600k for Vans bad tattoo. But Van wasn't claiming the shop nor did he dig in his own pocket.. that's why I always stood on Ryan's side.
Ryan definitely need to leave van where he was at. Minus the legal situation van had no good intentions for Ryan in the past, he was actively trying to overthrow him from his own shop. Someone who is like a brother to you will never be working overtime like that on your downfall. He thought he was gonna replace Ryan as the head and now he’s running back with his tail between his legs because everybody else didn’t follow through.

the messed up thing about this is Van acting like he didnt know about the law suit.. when there is footage of Van and ryan going over the paperwork saying that "Van Johnson is being sued by said customer" ryan brought that to his attention. shortly after that Van disappeared, and ryan thought he was taking care of that. Only for HIS BUSINESS to get hit with it instead, and ryan says "no one could find Van during this time" that's why they lost this case by default. It makes sense why ryan was sleeping in the shops but It did make him level up

He was definitely served because it was part of a storyline in a past season. As someone who has watched from day 1, I think Ryan doesn’t know how to set healthy boundaries with his close friends & I always peeped Van was a snake. My discernment let me know he was a cobra waiting to strike. I know people like Ryan who lose someone very close to them in a traumatic way (his sister) can often overcompensate in their closest relationships moving forward, so as to not feel that sense of loss ever again. He should’ve cut him off a long time ago (Kay/Rachel situation), but he kept giving chance after chance. I’m not even shocked something like this happened because Van always gave my spirit “hater friend who is a user” vibes. Hopefully, Ryan heals and as a result his discernment gets better.
