Love this idea. Im a chef and customers bring in cakes for birthday parties. They always asked for a knife to cut them and this would be safe to give them.
Badger Workshop why don't give them a normal knife? I mean, if they have money to pay you, they probably know how to use a knife without killing themselves...
Best ad integration on RUclips. I really need to make one of these. I've always thought of wooden knives as a conversation piece or novelty, seeing one with utility is very cool!
Thanks, I appreciate that! Yeah, you really should! Since I made this, I found a guy on Instagram that makes them out of a solid, single piece of hardwood and they are GORGEOUS!
Just finished making one of these today. It's a birthday gift for my sister. I used Osage Orange (blade) and Bocote (handle) Thanks for the great idea, Bob!!
I used to mix wood glue and sawdust to fill small voids in wood, but lately I´ve been using a sanding sealer/pore filler mixed with the sawdust. I find that it shrinks less and accepts finish better that the wood glue. Nice build!
Hey Bob! I really-really missed woodworking projects, cause I admired craftsmanship my whole life, when finally some months ago I decided to build my own workshop. It was one of Your videos, that suddenly helped me to make this decision! You showed us how to make these projects in an easy, but creative way, and I'm absolutely grateful for that! Wish You and all the ILTMS community the best from Hungary! ;)
Fun little build. I made a dozen katanas for props used in my local community theatre using a similar method. They were a blast to make and I was really happy with how they turned out. Looked great from the audience.
I made some wooden Knifes a long time ago and have to say they still do there job, only tipp for everybody wanna rebuild this or make wooden knifes themself. The harder the wood for the blade is, the "sharper" you can shape it. The one i build last was made out of african ebony, its extremly hard and looks just gorgeous. That wood you can sharpen like it's made out of rock and if you are careful you can even resharpen it. (handle was made from an european beech for contrast and still hard enough wood for a stable grip)
Very nice looking... great conversation piece too! I have a friend who makes butter knives from wood... basically smaller and simpler versions of what you made. 🤓👍🏼
Great video love the way it looks! I'm a woodworker too, runs in the family, but I can easily say I think you're great at it! And this thing turned out awesome!
almost at that million Bob, I remember when you were just under the 100K. Leaving your job turned out to be a good decision for you I hope, Keep it up!
Turned out great. I was just thinking to myself about how you should have added pins and as soon as I thought that...you did! Nice job and great choice of audio book too!
Thanks Brandon! I love the way it looks.. it kind of makes me want to make more with different exotic hardwoods. Someone mentioned using ebony as the blade (for hardness) I bet that'd look amazing!
Love it! Very cool idea, I wouldn't have thought of this. Looks authentic with the pins and grind! I was laughing at the end with the testing scene...it was unexpected and worked great!
good call on the audiobooks. I have been a audible subscriber for about 6 years. i spend a lot of time in my car. a suggestion for you that I have really enjoyed and it might be right up your ally, the dresden files. there is many books in the series but if you get into it you will plow through the series and be hoping for more. great videos as always. i look forward to thursdays.
That was pretty cool Bob. Form and function! I'm crossing my fingers that you might do my suggestion. (The end table with power outlet and/or usb charging. Gotta say, it is pretty convenient. I can even show you the rendering for it I made in 123d design.
USB outlets can be really unsafe. I suppose it might be a bit safer if the table is powered by its own plug, rather than the USB being screwed into your homes drywall sitting beside mains voltage.
something neat with audible is that if you're reading with a kindle and listening with audible, it knows where you leave off on each one so you can listen to one part and read the next with a kindle
I wish I wood be able to do this project
I was halfway through a motivational comment on how you probably cood do it and then I saw the pun.
Cake slice.......gone but not forgotten
That ending was great! You should do stuff like that more
Love this idea. Im a chef and customers bring in cakes for birthday parties. They always asked for a knife to cut them and this would be safe to give them.
Oh, great idea!
Badger Workshop why don't give them a normal knife? I mean, if they have money to pay you, they probably know how to use a knife without killing themselves...
5:05, Definitely not forgotten! Awesome knife! Keep up the good work!
I loved how you made the dowels. Awesome project.
I thought the dowel jig was really novel. Not a way I would have ever thought to make dowels

"Will probably cut pies and donuts, but I will need to test that in my own time" haha.
Great job Bob!
Thanks Andrew!

Nice! I'll give that a shot, thanks!
Great job on the knife, Bob! Glad you were able to edit this from beyond the grave!
I had never heard of a cake knife before this video. Neat project. I like the worm holes, they give it character.
Cool project Bob! And I'd have to say one of your most "fun" videos to date. Thanks for the smiles 😁
Thanks man!
I don't buy it. I'm not sold until I see it work on donuts. Send it here for further testing (don't forget the donuts).
you can't forget donuts.
No donut left behind
Who slices donuts in half⬜🤔😲
Nearly 1 Million Bob! over the years you have become better and better and I look forward to the future of your builds
:) Thanks so much!
