This seminar was produced for coaches of all levels who would like to become better at one of the most essential skills of a baseball coach - throwing batting practice. It takes practice but putting these tips into BP can help not only the coach but his players as well.

this is one of the most useful baseball videos I've ever seen! I wish I would have found it 8 years ago when it was originally posted.

Thank you, Coach! I have thrown BP for many years now and I wish I had seen this long ago. I did pick up a couple of tips and will be implementing them. I will have to pass this video along to anyone getting into coaching or parents who throw BP.

Terrific video. I've been struggling with throwing to my son so much that he won't let me do it anymore. Can't wait to get out and practice what your video showed.

thanks for this. i threw to a 10-year old boy this weekend, for the first time, and, while we had some success, what you've shared here helps me to refine what i need to do going forward. plus it increases my confidence. thanks again for posting this.

Wow, excellent video! Im a 56yr old catcher and may well have the chance to bullpen catch a minor league team in 2018. For the last 2 years I've thrown several times a week at a bucket 120 ft away x 300-400 balls at a time, and all day long at 60ft. I wondered if i could throw bp and do a good job, and with your pointers i believe this is a good plan and doable. I got on the field twice last year and was told i did better than respectable with my arm and of course catching. The organization likes me and if i get a spot i'll be shouting back at you! Keep up your good work-you do a great job and present it well!

So much good stuff in there. What was the most surprising to me was most of the material you covered is common sense. You just put it together....the how & why. I appreciate your dedication to coaching youth baseball & willingness to share with all of us who are trying to be the best coach for our players. Thanks.

I think the idea of throwing stikes that he's talking about is for coaches that can hardly hit the strike zone and kids get only 2-3 balls out of 10 that are hittable. If you can hit corners, don't make it too easy on them, throw some a bit outside the zone so they can make the difference between a strike and a ball and they can learn how to take pitches.

How is throwing at one location and at one speed going to help the kid hit in a game? In a game the pitcher is trying to do the exact oposite.

Well, that is kind of the idea of batting practice. To practice your swing while most variables stay the same. Just like hitting off a tee or using a pitching machine.

Batting practice is to work on your timing and hitting mechanics. Who is throwing curveballs, sliders, change ups, split finger, knuckle balls, during BP?

I agree. I think adding some variations can be helpful.

@@50923 how is it considered practice when you’re not creating a realistic scenario? I’m just asking as a novice so I’m open to your explanation. Personally, when I throw BP I attempt to hide the ball on some pitches. I throw some high. I throw some low. I teach the batter to take balls. I change the speed so the batter understand he needs to keep his eyes on the ball. I don’t understand how throwing perfect, down the middle, pitches every time makes anyone a better hitter. Please explain. Thanks.

Throwing down the middle pitches all the time during batting practice creates baseball players that can swing at pitches down the middle during the games. It doesn't make them game ready against pitchers that can hit corners.
