  • In the Korean language, it's very important to show respect and honour when you talk to and talk about someone who is older than you and who doesn't have a close relationship with you. In this lesson, you will learn all about -(으)시 which is added to verbs and adjectives. -(으)시 looks very different in sentences. That's why many Korean learners find it difficult to learn. But it's not!! Just follow me in the video. ☺️

Wow.. I found these ending changes are the most challenging to memorize.
However, I truly adore Korean's way to show respect since I'm not very fond of casual ways. Sure respect is for everyone regardless the title or age, yet performing certain gestures and using certain words really show someone's efforts. Maybe, it's just my Asian things, but using cultural surname/honorifics feel more comfortable, and still having boundaries at the same time.

"아빠가 문 닫으셨어요". Hi 😊, I have a question. Why is it "닫으셨어요" doesn't follow the irregular conjugation rule. It states that when ㄷ is at the 받침 position of a verb, and when it is conjugated it will change to ㄹ. However, 닫으셨어요 doesn't follow the rules. It should be 달으셨어요. Am I correct? Sorry for my question, I just confused.

Don't worry. I understand. ☺Yes, you're right based on the rules for the irregular verbs. But unfortunately, not all the verbs with ㄷ are categorised irregular verbs.
👉닫다, 받다 are considered regular verbs. So 닫으셨어요. 받으셨어요.
👉듣다, 걷다 are considered irregular verbs. So 들으셨어요. 걸으셨어요.
Does it answer to your question? ☺
