  • How to build homemade jack stands. I needed some burly jackstands to support various heavy vehicles. I ran across ChuckE2009's jackstand video, and figured I would follow suit and make my own.

Pro trick: you can watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.

Someday some einstein will make a jackstand that uses an acme thread rather than those damned toothed rails or holes that are always just a little too high or too low. I've seen big jackstands, around five feet tall, with acme threads but never car-sized ones.

how will you get them under the car? cause you need a jack to get them under..and i never saw a jack that could lift that high

Great idea it just needs a little more stability for the height

Could you please give me all of your dimensions? I see a project in my near future and this is something that I need to build for it.

Not bad, though I think the second set of pin holes in the bottom unit might weaken it... do you really need that fine of an adjustment? Would've just stuck with one hole for the bottom unit, and made the topmost u bar/rest thing adjustable by 1 inch.
But all the steel bars look strong enough anyways. Worse case scenario is the top set of holes on the bottom unit fail and the car falls down 1 inch

Thanks for the comments. The top holes are slightly weaker than the bottom, but it would still be very unlikely to shear. If the situation arises where that would be a concern, I simply use the bottom hole. In hindsight I could rotated the tube 90 degrees, and eliminated that possibility. Alternatively, I could weld a 1/4 plate to either side of the jack stand.

VERY risky to be under a 2-Ton car at that height on those structures.... Take care...!!!

Those are high strength stands. I have no way of lifting my car that high :)
