It's the solo section where he keeps the Emin groove happening but keeps accentuating the C# on beat 4; very clever accent and really makes the section pop.
Man I miss Andy in this band! He added so much edge to their sound. The original had perfect chemistry together that made them the best and most popular band that hit the face of this green earth.
DD makes no sense without Andy. And the incredible thing is that his guitar was often way back in the ground, filling the groove perfectly without ever being annoying. Sadly he didn't keep that style later in the 90s.
One of my favourite Duran songs! Love Andy and Johns guitar work in this. I’m only 25, but they’re one of my favourite bands ever! Thanks mum and dad, who lived through the 80’s as teens! 😃
The critics and haters constantly referred the them as "pretty boy teeny bopper band"... John Taylor, a bassist underrated laid some incredibly funky bass lines, Andy Taylor was a fiery guitarist, Roger Taylor was an extremely solid drummer, Nick Rhodes may not have been a keyboardist along the likes of Elton John or Howard Jones but he created a sound of layers and layers that fit the music while Simon Le Bon's lyrics were at times left for the listener to decipher.... One of the 80's bands that were better live than on record. Get them where they rightfully belong: ROCK -N- ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!
Nick Rhodes more of a tapes and sequencer keyboardist than a pure keyboardist. Most of his comtributions were mostly pre recorded and add in some sine wave keys in live performances.
@@paolofcb I've seen Duran Duran perform live. I have seen The Jackson Victory Tour. Comparing the two concerts is like comparing a match to the sun. Duran Duran's show left The Jacksons' in the rearview mirror.
Everybody talks about the Bass (which is brilliant, of course). But listen to the guitarwork!! So many different styles in one song. Creativity as its best.
Ok, I was a kid when this rocked my world. They never recreated this level of style, performance and all around...handsomeness lol! This was perfection and it's wonderful that it's documented for all time.
Brilliant is an understatement... this DD song performance is over the top. Each one in the band shines in their own way, and brighter when put together. Special mention to Simon's "rapping", way ahead of its time.

@Erika, I think you look pretty on your page, I don't normally write on the comment section but i think you deserve the compliment. I just thought i should say Hi and hopefully see where it'll lead. Hope you're doing fine ?
Strong contender for overall, best DD song. Hard to argue with that third verse before the final chorus. That one punches hard...."in regulation hats and scarves and things." Army Majors, mean cool truth, etc.... 🔥
Still surprises me the amount of comments on here describing DD as underrated. The one thing they ain’t is underrated and the teeny bopper comparison died in the eighties. R&R hall of fame has surely put pay to these comments
Well stated. The bassist, John Taylor, was indeed underrated. I'm not sure when the "critics" finally took notice of JT's body of work... Long overdue...
Just saw them this past Sunday the 3rd in Canadauga, NY. While they didn't play this song...they did play many others from this time period...including Lonely In Your Nightmare. They still sound just as good as they did then. This tour (83-84) was my first time seeing them...
They should play this at their upcoming Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame performance with Andy Taylor. It's so catchy with a driving beat. How you can you not like it.
En ese pasado decían que era una moda pasajera, qué solo eran carilindos con poco futuro en la música y hoy los denominan como el último Pilar vivo de la música pop mundial... Duran Duran eterno!!
The concept of a 'new religion' serves as a metaphor for a new way of thinking or a new belief system that the protagonist is trying to adopt. This 'new religion' is not about traditional faith, but rather a personal creed or philosophy that helps navigate the complexities of life. The repeated refrain 'I can't help myself, it's a new religion' suggests an almost compulsive need to find and adhere to this new belief system, despite the confusion and chaos that surrounds it. Ultimately, 'New Religion' is a poignant exploration of the human search for meaning, the pressures of conformity, and the search for personal truth in a bewildering world.
Probably as a 8 year old, this and The Wild Boys were my favourites. At that age you like things by instinct. At my current "rational" self, I adore the war anthem intensity of the first and supernatural meets psychological with the evocative keys of Nick. Added to that, when two Gemini come together in a band prepare for heavy emotions!🎉🎉🎉

The Bass line by John Taylor is simply Amazing!!
It wasn't until many years

Yeah I dont believe he s a british lad, too much funky.
Agreed. Have always loved his bass playing. As a rock musician I have always sought after a bass player like John, but that's a high bar to reach!
Very true! He's brilliant!!!

Exactly that!! Andy's guitar work adn the filters he used, gave the guitar sound such a distinct feel and sound.
DD makes no sense without Andy. And the incredible thing is that his guitar was often way back in the ground, filling the groove perfectly without ever being annoying. Sadly he didn't keep that style later in the 90s.
This year Andy returns to DD, to make a few songs in the new album!!! . I think the same ❤
Sooo sad
