  • By losing a fair amount of exposition, Gandalf's side quest to Dol Guldur gains a great deal more intrigue and excitement.

This is some next level editing. Where were you, when they were removing Henry Cavill's mustache?

I'm very glad to see these scenes back in the film. I'm saddened (though I understand) that all the fan edits I see take them out. I'm just so happy to see more Christopher Lee's Saruman.

Theres two ways, cutting theatrically, and cutting in reference to the book story. It seems the hobbit fans are split, and Chris clearly went for the first route, which I think is great, because he set out with a goal and achieved it, so now the hobbit movies exist, with a lot of PJ's creations and sideplots, a much better trilogy. Alternatively, there have been numerous attempts at book cuts, and those can work too, if youre a fan of only the book

I watched the first film edit, and I thought the White Council section was flawless! I didn't even realize at first that anything had been cut. Much better paced! Better plausible deniability from the white council about the necromancer if there isn't this obvious, "So it's Sauron, right?" blade.

*does it better than most professionals*
