This is an absolutly stunning 3D model. The detail is so high that the physical 1960s TOS models look overly simple. Of course, that means that it is not cannon (style wise) but very, very well done. Just doing the rooms inside all those windows would have taken a week. I can see how the science mission shaped the three radio telescopes and the "solar arrays" on the fin. Obviously a real labor of love - I think I will watch this again now just to see more of the detail.
When I first saw this ship, featured earlier on this channel, I thought it was totally hideous. However, now after seeing all these neat close-up details, its starting to grow on me...
I appreciate all of fans putting in the work for ships that they would like to see. I have my own ships that I have designed. For me personally this is a hot mess. It is like getting dressed up for a party, take one or two things off, then you have perfection. I like where the ship is going but it has too much going on. Scale it back and you would have a great ship design. It looks like with so many things protruding it would be easy to blow things off like the Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyers. That is only my opinion though. Good job!! :)
I think the best part of his designs is the realism, everything makes sends, I often fantasize on what ship I would like to command and the answer used to be something like voyager but now this is the new contender
It has a future and retro feel. The military naval style is obvious, but artistically in the 60's and 70's there was a lot of fins and radar dish ship elements in scifi art. For me it gives it more of of that old school scifi art, non-Trek feel which is a departure from what we normally see stylistically in Trek. The vast whiteness and naval cues reminds me of a US Coast Guard cutter. Naval grey would make it feel more like a Destroyer escort and less like these guys are spending their time pulling over cargo ships to see if the maintenance logs for your escape pods are up to date. On the fence on this one because of the white washout but I like the naval feel.
He said in one of his vids that he took some of his inspiration from current naval vessels, that"s where the conning tower look, weapon turrets etc. come from, he explains a lot of his design choices in his vids.
Well, in the original Star Trek series before the added CGI, the Enterprise sometimes had red phasers, orange, and blue. It wasn't until the added CGI when they became blue every time they were fired.
I believe the blue in the background of the deflector dish was to allow the bronze color material to use EMforce as a deflector and collector. Also the tower configuration remind me of the SDF-1 from Robotech. What if the nacelles could come down during a battle sequence and make the upper pylon the main bridge and launch the Saucer Section fore.
Ok guys - I was pissed at your review of the STD, but I have to say - your discussions of the ships do make sense (not the STD though) - So I like you channel actually - keep it up :) - you've got my sub
Enjoyed this episode. One point that is often brought up is that ships in Trek are decommissioned too early. US WWII battleships are brought up as an example of ships used decades after commissioning. It's important to keep in mind that the ships that sustained very heavy damage were decommissioned. The few that were left had support roles in Korea and Vietnam and then those were decommissioned as well. Four were refitted in the 80s and recommissioned but again these never suffered heavy damage in their career. Now all are decommissioned. My point is that if any naval vessel had suffered damage to the extent that the NX-01 had, it would have been condemned and decommissioned. It's not even suitable as a museum piece. Anything usable would have been removed and the rest sold for scrap. I have a hard time imagining that the structure of that ship is safe for humans to inhabit or could ever be made habitable - especially as a hospital. It would be cost prohibitive to renovate it. It would be cheaper to build a new hull and salvage whatever made sense from the NX-01. How do you know that there isn't latent damage in the matter/anti-matter containment structure? Maybe the safest thing to do would be to put it on auto pilot and fly it into a star.
I like this ship a lot; it looks functional, has a nice retro look which is often lacking in ships set before TOS, even though it isn't necessary. This would fit into the Starfleet museum timeline nicely. I know, I pimp that website a lot.
Imagine that, I checked the trailers and saw a brilliant take on the Cylinder ships used during the Romulan Wars. This is definately one to look forward to, and the first trailer was presented such that it reminded me of one of my favourite stories in an entirely seperate genre.
I like it, as it's different. But i'm not sure yet if it "Trek" will have to see it in action to make a final opinion. But I can't argue with the model it is very well done!
I thought the second dish was a secondary deflector, since I saw those in Star Trek Online. The design of the USS Pacific was love at first sight for me. The TOS ships tend to look absolutely beautiful with the lighting that comes in some of the modern fan movies. The ships in Axanar and the shots in this video are gorgeous, and the Pacific has such an interesting design, it makes me seriously want to see the movie itself. I don't care that I'm double posting, it's been half a year. Fight me.
Interesting. Could this be the "missing link" ship that Drexler was talking about from the NX to the Comny. The speed seems slow though since they had warp 7 ships by 2160s. I would have had it be warp 7.5
I would love to see a show or movie going into the romulan war, granted that's also because I absolutely love those TOS style retro designs displayed with modern special effects.
I'm going to have to see it in action before I can make a final decision... The all white keeps throwing me off. It feels like a gun ship or something of that sort to me. If that is so then I really like it but final decision pending. I really like the re-designs of the Daedalus and NX class ships, however. The all white and minor tweaks certainly work. So far so good!
that uper observation room could look more like a command deck of a modern warship if you guys could take a look on a couple of pics of those new navy warships its looks like those and that comes to mind instead of a observation lounge it can or could be a engeniring windows or possably a secundary command deck.... take a look on the Zumwalt-Class Destroyer deck and i see resemble there
An interesting design...wasn't the original Enterprise model Battleship Gray in color? The white color scheme keeps making me think of an Ambient Occlusion pass for some reason...
Hi - great content. I'm confused though. Doesn't the nacelles create the warp field and the deflector move all the space debris, dust, rocks etc., out of the way of the ship?
I like this ship. Also, I'm not sure why they are complaining about the white color scheme - isn't that how the Enterprise refit and Reliant were colored?
Heat radiation is a big issue that frequently gets overlooked in sci-fi. Search up "The Hot Equations" by Ken Burnside for full details. Nice to have a solution that isn't Pure Frickin' Magic, aka Treknology. These ships are somewhat lower tech than TOS, remember!
if you look at they Daedalus and the Pacific they're very white where as the NX is a lot darker. Perhaps it's ti actually distinguish them as different types of vessel the lighter ones are science/medical the darker are cruisers or escorts.
I don't like the top or the name. Pacific 201 sounds like the name of a Broadway show or song from the 40s. Pacific works, but Pacific 201... Ehh. Anyway more than happy to have another fan film coming, can't wait to see it!
I like the overall design of the ship, and yes even the big fin and more "covered" nacelles. The spines and extra dish is a bit...odd even for an older ship, and they feel a bit off for me. I get WHY they are there but it breaks the mold a bit too much. It might work better as a pre NX-class system ship.
it's a wierd looking ship but with the way the saucer looks and the placement of the nacelles it's almost like an inspiration for the later Constellation Class(The Stargazer with the four nacelles), weird looking but i wouldn't say ugly, to me you can't get any uglier than, and i'm sorry ahead of time fans but the Sovereign Class- Enterprise E, compared to the Enterprise D Galaxy Class which is just gorgeous, Enterprise E is absolutely butt ugly to me, was kind of a let down when i saw it on First Contact, i know it's considered more advanced and futuristic but damn it looked like shit, like someone put a bent sombrero with the top cut off on humpback whale and tied two tree branches on it's side fins and got it to hold them up and the designers took a picture and said "that's gonna be the next Enterprise after we destroy D in Generations!" really? every ship up till then had a consistent design and looked better and better then they got to First Contact and didn't know what to do, i sorry but the Enterprise E is absolutely horrendous, kind of made it hard for me to get into those movies somewhat after Generations, i would see that ship and just be disgusted, but this USS Pacific does fit in between NX-01 and TOS Enterprise in some strange way, only thing is just a little too much of a fin at the top of the nacelles that throws it off a bit but does look cool enough, pretty realistic looking
Great video Stuart Foley. not my favorite ship but interesting to say the least. getting a 2001 kinda vibe. in a future video can you and Samuel explore the in cannon reasons for the TOS era white thermocoat versus the movie era pearlesent paint job of the connie.
I always feel so dickish when critizing fan ships but the Pacific really doesn't work for me. I think it's mostly how busy the topside is. The Saucer, the Secondary and even the odd position of the Nacelles i can absolutely get behind, but that fin and all the stuff attached to it... it actually reminds me of an unholy unity of Starfleet Design, an Imperial Star Destroyer's bridge tower, the backfin of a regular line airplane and the frontside view reminds me a lot of a WW2 battleship. I think she's look fine if one just cut' off the fin directly above the Nacelles. The way it is it's just so... visually unbalanced. I do like the plain white though. Very TOS movies.
I feel the same. I even used my hand to cover everything above the pylons and it totally changed my opinion of the ship. That and way she looks in profile with the sharp cutoff of the engineering hull at the back are the only criticism I have
The Constellation class had 4 nacelles, but the narrow setting of the nacelles was also used, like on Pacific. The ship is from the past NX time period, so there has to be some antennas and dishes, as the ship is still not really "modern" yet. But like with all ships, some like the design some don't. :-)

Obviously a real labor of love - I think I will watch this again now just to see more of the detail.
I love the seafaring battleship look of the ship. And the "missile launchers" would make this a formidable fighter when cornered.
Good analysis guys. Excellent modeling on the part of the Pacific 201 crew. Can't wait to learn more.
When I first saw this ship, featured earlier on this channel, I thought it was totally hideous. However, now after seeing all these neat close-up details, its starting to grow on me...
Nice detailed pics. Hard to believe they are rendered. Very nice!
Superb ship, I love this thing so much. the amount of thought that went into it far exceeded expectations. it has earned its spot in Cannon.
I appreciate all of fans putting in the work for ships that they would like to see. I have my own ships that I have designed. For me personally this is a hot mess. The ship feels like a more realistic of a (22nd century) starfleet vessel. Very nice ship, very nice review.
I love this ship. It's so Trek yet very "real". So cool.

Wait till we speak with him on Wednesday. A lot of stuff to learn.
+Trekyards Could you please do a video about the challenge class from www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/challenger.htm
Well, in the original Star Trek series before the added CGI, the Enterprise sometimes had red phasers, orange, and blue. It wasn't until the added CGI when they became blue every time they were fired.

beautiful ship / good work.

That is a very different ship design. very unique. it would be an interesting ship to portray in a star trek altered timeline episode.
and yes, I would love to see the freedom class and challenger class featured I your videos too.
The top of the Pacific reminds me of the White Base ship from Mobile Suit Gundam. It's like that ship and a Constitution class ship had a baby.
I would love to see a show or movie going into the romulan war, granted that's also because I absolutely love those TOS style retro designs displayed with modern special effects.
i rely like this ship, i sore his recherché on the making of the ship. and you can deff see the navy influence.
good show
I immediately liked it for some reason.
Like post ent, pre tos.
It reminds me a lot of Capt. Picard's old ship, the Constellation class StarGazer!
I'm going to have to see it in action before I can make a final decision... The all white keeps throwing me off. It feels like a gun ship or something of that sort to me. Late to the party on this vid, NX-01 is 82 crew.
Give or take a dog :p
I was hoping they were referring to the refit...
And it was 83. 81 humans a Vulcan and a Denobulan. Though I'm assuming the compliment was higher once the MACOs came on
Hi - great content. I'm confused though. Doesn't the nacelles create the warp field and the deflector move all the space debris, dust, rocks etc., out of the way of the ship?
Yup. That's right
Nx01 had a crew of 89....vulcan ships are stated to be capable of warp 7 in ent
RE : the Pacific phaser turrets............open the pod bay doors HAL........ha ha ha.
I like this ship. Also, I'm not sure why they are complaining about the white color scheme - isn't that how the Enterprise refit and Reliant were colored?
Also shows the original TOS Constitution CAN look good in a film :D
~blows a raspberry to the folks who says otherwise~
Very NASA like starship
those solar pannels could be radeaters.... though I not sure why a starfleet ship would use something like that?
Heat radiation is a big issue that frequently gets overlooked in sci-fi. Search up "The Hot Equations" by Ken Burnside for full details. Nice to have a solution that isn't Pure Frickin' Magic, aka Treknology. These ships are somewhat lower tech than TOS, remember!
Imagine cooking a steak on the phaser turret. Would you like it well done or atomized
if you look at they Daedalus and the Pacific they're very white where as the NX is a lot darker. Perhaps it's ti actually distinguish them as different types of vessel the lighter ones are science/medical the darker are cruisers or escorts.
I think NX-01 had only 80-something crew.
Got an anime flavor to it. :D

i like the white
If you tell me this the first ship build under the Federation flag, I'ld buy it
How can I make a white ship whitout it looking like it´s from 2001?
in like enterprise intrepid ship but I see this shuttle bay and wrap engine trade places.
Those aren't solar panels, they're radiator panels.
I like the overall design of the ship, and yes even the big fin and more "covered" nacelles. The spines and extra dish is a bit...odd even for an older ship, and they feel a bit off for me. Pretty frackin late here, but CBS/Paramount should just hire Eric Henry.
And fire anyone with anything to do with Discovery.
Sorry, not sorry.
That dish looks like it was taken out of a china cabinet
:( looking like shark fin.

The Pacific 201 is not as original as they state. This ship looks something like the ships Artist "John Berkey" designed in many sci fi books.

The deflector looks like a speaker lol!
It doesn't do it for me.
Secondary hull should be longer.
I like the details the look of the parts but i dont like the design of the ship it self
I didn't like this ship then and still don't. It's butt ugly.
The first ship to ever make me vomit. Good job Eric Henry.
I dont like it
Imagine cooking a steak on the phaser turret. Would you like it well done or atomized
