Unable or unwilling? Kishor Mahbubani is just being diplomatic. War is America's bread and butter. It is not that it was unable to prevent the war in Ukraine and Gaza, it was unwilling to do so. It is in America's strategic interest that these and other wars be fought. The war theatre is now moving to Asia. This has been a top agenda for a long while now.

I don't agree that the wars in Ukraine and Middle East is a result of weak leaders in the West. The reason is Middle East problem has been going for 75 years and has gone through many changes in Western leaders. Similarly, Ukraine problem started years ago and again over mant changes in Western leadership. The problem is the imperialist nature of the Western cultures which have been going on since centuries ago invading and taking over others like the colonial periods. And this continued cos the West got strong and build military n financial structures to keep them in power n any challenges even by their own kinds are put down. e.g. when Germany got economically and technically strong US see it as a challenge, France faced the same, so is Japan. So it is not the weaknesses of the Western leadership it is the nature of Western civilisation that see the rest of the world as phariah😂

I think Kishore has mischaracterized Gaza stuff. Everyone aside from Iran/Hezbollah/Houthi all voted in favor or abstain for whatever Israel is doing with their action. Most countries pay lip service, some countries can't even do that, and then there is US which is actively bolstering Israel. Look, 99% of government want to pass an actual genocide killing 2 millions under people's eyes and there is nothing could be done (whatever civilians do amount to 2% of decision making), in 21st century. Two things that is keeping 2 million people alive, Israel incompetence and Houthi/Hezbollah. It's the same thing with Ukraine, perpetuators on one side, other nuclear state on the other. Russia/China can stop Gaza but it's very dangerous to escalate with US. US can stop Ukraine but same reason. Gridlock and people dies.

I think this is an ingenuous way by Western intellectuals to continue the narrative to justify Israel's claim of self-defence.
I see this blurring of the righteous Human Rights of the Palestinians to armed self-defence against an occupying force as provided by the UN as utterly unacceptable. I think the rest of the non-Western world is waking up to the immorality of this Western narrative.

With Ukraine you are missing the point...America wanted to push russia to the edge...it wanted to be on its boarders...and I don't condem hamas...its clear others followed hasas out of prison and went not professional like hamas who intended a military op with its limited resources after the Palestinians had exhausted all other options as it was dealing with an enermy that was unreasonable...and its support the empire doesn't negotiate

"China before 1840 was completely closed, isolated from the rest of the world, except for the limited foreign trade in the city of Canton"

Our dear kishore, this is what you never knew or isn't in your knowledge . Israel doesn't get to decide whether or not the palestinians have a right to self-determination, this is something that is enshrined in the united nations charter, it is something that is enshrined into international law, it is also a founding principle of the united nations decision to found Israel! So,you know it is absolutely necessary that Israel accepts that it cannot exist without the existence of a palestinian state!. So please pass this message to Mr benzion mileikowsky .(satanyahu) also talk of what has been happening since 1948, also please talk about the massacre of "sabra and shatila " refugees camps, in just a period of just 4 hours Sharon butchered 3850 women and children.
