    India and China are NEIGBOURS and NUCLEAR armed.Common sense will dictate that it is in the interest of both countries to have close ties and solve problems through dialogue and compromise. The border problem has been around for years so both parties must have the patience to solve it .A war with each other will weaken both countries and opportunistic powers will then move in to dominate and control them.India has been colonised, exploited and humiliated by Britain for hundreds of years and likewise China was badly mistreated by Japan and the West.So do not let that happen again .Both India and China are ancient civilisations and must show that they have the strength and wisdom to rise above this temporary friction and forge closer ties with each other which can only be good for them. There is really no better way and it is not difficult if there is sufficient goodwill.

    Congratulations on hosting a thoughtful constructive discussion on a difficult subject.
    If I may give a suggestion, I think India may benefit by calming down its media.
    If you look at the official Chinese media, they started off very calm and measured. It was only after the Indian media going full steam ahead accusing and attacking the Chinese side that they started to respond. And even then, it seems to me that they are still relatively calm compared to the Indian side.
    If both sides stayed calm and not fan the anger of their respective citizens, it would certainly make it easier to settle the dispute through negotiations if negotiation is indeed the preferred method as stated in your video. It should have been quite clear from the beginning that the dispute can't be settled through brute force. So getting the citizens pumped up for a confrontation is clearly not in the interest of India.

      @zenperri3969 2 года назад

      @@KrishnaKumar-yw8tl Nationalism is soaring in India, and your media kept putting more fire to it. There is no check and balance to growing nationalism among Indians because both your government and media want nationalism and use nationalism to serve their own interest, in the end, this would backfire India and hurt Indian interest. On the contrary, Chinese government reasonably calmed down Chinese nationalism before relation between China and India went out of control, the way China deal with India is an excellent example of managing geopolitical crisis.
      Public opinions do matter, but nationalism should not be the driving force of making key national decisions. Very sadly, India government and Indian media are either too blind to see that, or simply, they don't have Indian national interest in their hearts, their personal interest or elite's interest tops everything else.

Have you forgotten how they have treated everyone. They just want to be leader that can control every countries for their benenits only. They cannot see anyone better than them...so now the US. are trying to stir up and potray China is a bully . So better wake up to benefit your country and your people by supporting China. They were there not to listen n exchange views n ideas, but to impose their pre-conceived, biased opinions on others. They're extremely self-opinionated and think they know everything, they know best. At the end, no one walks away from the 'debate' any wiser. This is in fact ubiquitous in Indian politics where politicians spend more time bashing each other up than sit down, debate n explore ways to help India grow n develop. It's the key reason why India has been left in the dust in its competition with China.

      @Sam Dz are you dumb? Singaporean diplomats can't be bought. CIA tried to buy Lee Kuan Yew in the 60s and they failed. Singapore is where it is because of one thing. Stayed true to facts. No feelings no opinions. Facts. Truth. China is more developed than India, truth! GDP per capita is almost double. Every indian citizen that went to china always wondered why their country is not like China already.

    India should use tit for tat strategy against China. If they are supporting Pakistan against India then India should also Support Dalai Lama of Tibet. In any case Taiwan should be supported as they are fellow democracy. India has achieved nothing by economic cooperation with China. We have 70 billion dollars of trade deficit. And what is the guarantee that China will not use trade against India tomorrow. All in all India should never trust China. We should make trade and economic pacts with other like minded countries. China should be dealt with in tit for tat manner. In extreme case we can also ally with USA.

    This power differential argument is not sound. Russia is nowhere near equal to United States but it has beaten US in each isolated narrow engagement for past 20 years (Take Syria and Ukraine for example). India doesn't have to be exactly equal to China, it just has to mach or exceed China in the areas where it has interests and I think India is capable of It. Not all of the Chinese power is deployed along India border, similarly not all Chinese capital is deployed in south Asia. If India can match China militarily in its region, it is enough. We don't need to have exact parity with China.

    A balanced discussion. Though it portrayed more towards accommodating Chinese interests and giving them larger than life image.... the reality is for now that it is difficult for Indians to take on Chinese head on .... but that does not mean there are no other avenues left. Handling Chinese needs a patient and long term dealings irrespective of the government in power. However this is exactly where we lack... patience and wisdom. Out to win the tactical battle we end up loosing the strategic game. However I still believe we are learning our lessons

      swave158 Indians never changed the cartography. We didn’t seize any region . We prevented its unlawful occupation. China wishes to keep it disputed claiming some odd historical facts which no one believes and what is part of its legal warfare. For that matter it’s the Chinese who seized the Tibetan plateau and committed the biggest cartographic aggression otherwise India would had a very peaceful eastern boundary with its Tibetan friends. Sad part was we accepted it as we naively cherished our historical and cultural linkages with China to be more important . No ways course of history can and will be corrected

    Why Indian hates China? border dispute, 1967 Sino-Indian war? China has better relationship with Japan, despite the bitter wars over centuries, millions dead and the still unresolved Nanjing massacre. No, it goes deeper in the psyche of the Indian. It's racism. India can't deal with a successful China. It should have been India who shall rise after WW2, with a democracy and freedom . China was devastated in the WW2, and has since risen to be 2nd largest economy in the world. India rather be used as a pawn of imperialism and US hegemony rather than developing together in Eurasia. It's heartbreaking to watch.

    This was in JUNE. In Nov., the drift of the discussions seems unuseful. India is handling the conflict well so far and china is unable to so far overwhelm India. The size difference in the economy does not quite play out in the front line. The conscripted chinese army seems good on paper. There is a disconnect between what the experts are pontificating and how the border conflict is being managed. The singapore experts do not have military experience and this limitation is showing.
