Brings back memories of my dad and mom who passed on many years ago. They both came across in the early 1900's at an early age. My dad used to sing this song back when I was a child before he passed on in 1947. It always brings tears to my eyes.
I have an Irish name and Irish grandparents but I grew up in England. I have been in India in the jungle for ten years. When I listen to this song I feel like the notes travel through my ears to the ears of my late grandparents and their parents. When I hear it, I know where I came from.
TO SING THIS SONG YOU HAVE TO BE FULL OF GOOD NATURE CLOSE TO THE SOIL .AND SING FROM THE HEART WITH PASSION .THIS WOMAN CAN SING FROM THE HEART. VERY FEW CAN DO THIS .AND THE SONG THE LAMBS ON THE GREEN HILLS .VERY FEW CAN MASTER THIS LIKE THIS WOMAN .PLENTY WILL TRY .
My father God bless his soul used to sing this song in Carty's pub in Knock i can hear him now oh for the touch of a vanished hand and the sound of a voice that is still
This is a beautiful song and is only matched by the beautiful voice of Nan amazing is the only words to describe her may God leave her with us for ever.
I left my home at the age of 18 on the late evening of 29 April, 1958, and boarded a TWA plane for New York Airport. My first trip back was 9 years later, after I had spent 4 years in The Marine Corps.
well I can say you are a related to gifted and wonderful singer. I was delighted to meet her a couple of years ago in London when she over playing a gig in a North London pub.
You must have a great collection of C D s Maybe you might let me know of some of them or where they might be bought as you know it is very had hard to find a music store these days.
"Why type of flute is played from 2:12 - 2:23 ? It's beautiful." to me ear, sounds like a 'pan flute' being played via MIDI soundsource. too bad she didn't have Uilleann pipes on hand.. Nice tune though slainte!
Sean a mhic, there is indeed an Edenderry in Portadown and that is a picture of it,......just over the Bann bridge, heading towards Lurgan on the left, Gilford to the right, though it looks somewhat different now...as does the picture of Hill St, Newry Co Down..........

I'd stand in the snow listening to her. Have you get her version of Amhrán Mhainse? It sends chills through you to hear it.
Great photos ...anyone interested should look at memories of old Appin for something similar.

You missed out Westmeath.
What is the name of the original singer .because heard this on record few months ago. But old guy was singing not this one .
You might want to check your picture captions, Edenderry is not in Armagh ,it is in Offaly, ie south of Dublin, Portadown is North of Dublin.
Portadown is in Co Armagh NI.
Sean Laffey like many Irish place names it exists in more than just one county
