I'm not too good on this online thing and am sorry I have not responded earlier to all your lovely comments on this great song I got from the Great Liam Weldon.
,me and wife travelled together for years she has gone now to heaven this song describes a love that will never die . God loaned her to be my wee guardian angel and I will carry that deep love till the day I go to meet her. Great song thanks
What a stunning, heartbreaking voice and song! My family are Romany from Cornwall, and how I hanker for a traditional lifestyle. Travelling's in my blood 💚💚💚
why the fuck do you people look up stuff like this to insult people? Just listen to Sean Tyrell singing this beautiful song and appreciate it for what it is, stop hating and start learning for yourself about the things you profess to hate. Or is it that you are rotten through with hatred? Ps there is another verse to this song apparently, anyone know of it? I sing one starry night meself and would love to get the lost verse. thanks.
You do a lovely version of it also Katie...The first time I ever heard this song was from the singing of the great Liam Weldon from Ballyfermot in Slattery's, Capel Street in the early 70's....

Wot a truly class song. The words and pipe playing are pure magical. Each to there own of course. But this melody touches me to the core. Thank Sean ps* met u in Clare about 3 years back...sound out fella 👍🙂
For all those who gave this beautiful song a thumbs down all I can say is you can't be a traveller and have no ears our music is beautiful and as a meaning to us people in houses don't understand but enjoy your listening and have a beautiful day
@@mikebison9882 that's right but that dose not give me the right to discriminate unlike some Irish do and you your self and other people in Europe who discriminate the gypsies so I have nothing but love and respect for them they have a unique culture and a language so different from the Irish them selfs put your self in there shoes how it is to be live a life being picked on and looked down upon because your different grow up mate really.
@@brandoncostello5565Exactly. In Australia and America, people are not such self-righteous snobs and don't discriminate so much. One of my biological grandfathers was a tinsmith from the Scottish highlands. I'm not sure, but I suspect that side of my family may have been travellers. Whether they were or not, I know for certain they were poor a/f. Even though he died of TB soon after arriving in the US, I think coming to America was the best decision he ever made.
@MacTireMhaighEo that was a brilliant doccumentary, fairplay to RTE for finally making a prog about travellers and for travellers that was both interesting and truthful> id love to see one about traveller musicians, the likes of the Felix and Johny Doran, the MacCarthys and Connors etc. Check out Tommy MacCarthys debut cd "Round Top Wagon" its A1.
Katie - a long time after your initial comment, sorry - but look for 'COPPERS AND BRASS The Piping Tradition of Irish Travellers' over on Vimeo. A short one that goes into one particular treasure of Irish music the travellers kept alive - the uileann pipes. I think there's also a short documentary up here somewhere about the Pecker Dunne and his family - who this great song always brings back to my mind
Graddam Awards Tom McCarthy getting recognised at last? Saw the ad on TG4 can't wait for it .He's the real deal in my book an important link to the past while keeping the fire lit into this century personally gives me hope?Anyway next time I'm down home must meet up for a song or two? When pecker Dunns picture came up .. my late irish traveller father told me stories when he was young he and pecker .. we played pecker Dunn at my Dad's funeral 😥🍀💛🕊🙏
My family emigrated to Ireland after suffering heavy persecution and then when the potatoe famine hit escaped on the coffin ships to the America’s. The only traditional thing that remained was renaming the children after the father. I went back to visit and was told never to use my biological name. I want to learn more about my traditions, language, and people. I feel so disconnected from my people. But even now I’m the “mom” to the travellers here. I am the last stop to get a drink, warm meal, clean socks, and a warm shower. Is there anyway you could help me become reconnected with our traditions?

There's no difference at all
We all bleed breath the same I'm English gypsy but I respect anyone who respects no matter what they are
I'm a gorger don't say that about us please cause certain ones do actually understand
Then why say that fellla? If we have allowed blacks to be free why are travellers different???
