    If you can't afford a Canon L-glass, just put a red ring on it :P
    Speaking of L-glass, there's another old gem of a lens for cheap if you can find it. The Canon 20-35/2.8L. Amazing build quality. A bit noisy but still pretty fast auto-focus and great quality shots overall, as long as you don't need short focus distance ability. I recently got one for 200 usd.

      I’ve heard good things about the 20-35mm and would like to get one if I can find one for a decent price and in good condition (around here, they are hard to come by and typically pretty banged up when I do find one)

      @@SkylerKing I hear people buy them in mint condition successfully from japan on ebay. I haven't tried it myself though. As it happens I have a spare; but I'm a long way away. Happy hunting!

    I bought this lens yesterday, used for $285 Australian dollars. Used it for a shoot today and OMG the quality is fantastic.

      Right!? Why is nobody else talking about how great it is?

      @@SkylerKing it's crazy, I had never even heard about this lens. Did another shoot and I was just blown away again. As the first one was architecture and now I shot a group of people. Decided to put it on my aps-c camera and just WOW again.

      That was basically my experience. It was cheap, nobody talks about it, so I didn't expect much. But it has now become one of my favorite and most used lenses.

      @@SkylerKing I have seen reviews and tests showing everything from haze in the images to crazy levels of distortion (like over 10%) at the wide end. I think there may be some inconsistencies in this lens. Either you get a great, amazing copy, or you get one that fell through QC. That said, I just ordered one in like-new condition for $277 USD shipped, so let's hope I get a winner.
      I was going to go for the Canon EF 17-40 f/4L, but I knew the f/2.8 would be a much more usable aperture for indoors, low light, etc....

    I bought this lens right after in appeard on the market. Sometimes in 2011. It cost 640$ back then. I still own it and i'm very satisfied. I saw some reducilous reviews about this lens claiming it's the worse on the market. To my opinion it offers a great quality in moderate price. Even though i bought it for 640 in adorama, it served me so many years and created many god photos. I'm not a big fan of the mf clutch mecanism and it was once broken. Recently i noticed i need to replace the zoom rubber grip. Otherwise this lens is a work horse. An excellent choice to amateurs and pros as well.

    I can agree I think 28 is close to what the eye sees, if you open one eye in the view finder, and one eye open outside you can see it clearly, without an EVF at least

    I am getting this lens next week. I am planning on using this one mostly all the time on my 5d classic with maybe the 40mm when I need a walkaround lens. What do you think I should get the 24-105 or the 70-200? They are both relatively the same price and I was thinking of keeping one of these two on my 1ds and switch cameras. But I am not sure about the 70-200 particularly because I feel it will draw too much attention

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing  10 месяцев назад +1

      I've had the 70-200mm f2.8 and while the lens itself is fine, I just didn't find it very versatile or real-world usable for my style of shooting. As a walk around lens, it is too long. As a sports lens, it is too short the majority of the time. If I am going to be doing portait shots, specifically, I prefer using a dedicated portrait lens. The 24-105mm is a great lens. Unbelievably versatile and usable. Could easily be your only lens. But, it has unbelievably high levels of distortion and vignetting, so fixing that in post processing is an absolute necessity.

      @@SkylerKing thank you for the reply! I have been doing tons of research and introspection and decided to go just for the canon 16-35 f/4 IS. I think as a focal length its great and can get really creative and the IS can help too. I will in the future look into adding something else but feels I would be pretty much set with that one and the 40mm pancake. I was looking into the Sigma 50mm 1.4 to replace my pancake but think I prefer how discreet the 40 can be and that itself is enough. Not sure which else I would add to my kit

    Is yours the first or second generation of this lens? Apparently the first gen had some issues.

    do you always use "adobe color" profile in Lightroom? Have you ever tried applying the camera matching ones to the LR profiles and editing off that? (for 5d, 6d)

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing  11 месяцев назад

      I primarily use the camera matching profiles, in lightroom. I will switch do Adobe standard from time to time, for various reasons.
