It’s remarkable how Japan changed from a reputation for making cheap junk copies of all kinds of things, to making some of the finest and most coveted things in the world. Such pride in one’s work, and such attention to details is amazing. This guy is a pleasure to watch. I hope he has a son or daughter to whom he passes on his craft.

What an amazing career and set of skills ....
It must be absolute heaven to work this way , in his very own oasis, paradise
..away from modern fast paced busy souless digital world we all live in.
The smell of wood and carving tools must be wonderful.
I was amazed you still use rice glue ...
The care you take whilst creating your rice containers is amazing
Im so happy to see the older crafts such as this still being used.
    ...in this wondefful little workshop

Your observations about the unique techniques and tools, as well as the care taken in every step of the process, mean a lot to us. We hope to showcase more of these intricate tools and processes in future videos. Thank you again for your kind words and support!"

I cannot help but thinking when I watch these videos, what is the source of such precision craftsmanship and attention to detail in Japanese culture. Not only that, but the work environment as well. I can't think of another country where all of these things are so thoroughly integrated into a culture.

My Father was a carpenter and helped build many large buildings. But he was the most at peace working on a small project of wood, just sitting there as this craftsman is lost in the work. You talk to the wood, and it responds. I have a glass front bookcase my Father made, simple yet elegant that I cherish. This utensil is the same way, simple, yet elegant. A thing to cherish and to use. ❤
