Grimburg Less Lethal is setting the standard right now. They listen to what people want. Small, sleek, and powerful is in the most demand. Gone are the days of big bulky launchers. Granted this isn't a small launcher by firearm standards but it's a nice step in the right direction.

When I attended the Chicago Police Academy about 30 years ago it was estimated that only 2.5 rounds were fired during each encounter. It is my professional opinion that if you are in a protracted gun fight, you won’t survive firing more than a couple rounds unless you find cover.

Agree, but most bad guys don't expect "regular" citizens to fight back. Therefore, they don't think terms of "cover".

That was in the stone ages
Now days it is 18 rounds with multiple mag dumps.
A civilian will be lucky to fumble and get the twist thing to happen then maybe get one or two rounds on target with stress fire situations. Grimburg needs to make a strike pierce on a mag like the FSC and they will dominate this market hands down

Nice testing Jon. Kurt with Grimburg is an awesome person. I mentioned to you previously of my business dealings with them. I recall that there is a different spring which can be provided for the Gavle to properly handle pepper type rounds. I've never used them so I'm not positive. There was also a heavier projectile that Grimburg sold when the first Gavle was released weighing close to 10 g. Kurt tested that in that Gavle and I believe it was achieving over 40 Joules. Again, thanks for your continued testing and input for the less lethal community.

It’s really frustrating because I want grimburg to succeed as a company and I love the power this launcher offers, but like many have stated, I don’t like the twist to puncture, and the inability to reload is problematic as well. Remember these launchers at minimum, are really to deter, distract, and delay a bad guy so that a victim can break contact and try to escape the danger.
The Gavle gives you five heavy shots per Co2 cartridge, so even if it had a magazine to change, you also still have to change out the empty Co2 cartridge then load another fresh one in. Realistically I don't see the average citizen getting into a sustained and extended fight.

8grams coming out of these is brutal albeit kinetic or pepper rounds. A face or head shot within 10 feet could be devastating. That being said, if you are in a situation where it is necessary, then mitigating the threat is the ultimate goal giving you time to escape. I do agree on a good manual and instructional video though. Perhaps I should volunteer to help them with that.

At Home you use it as a backup. On the street you need to use pepper spray (any powerful launcher) to get time to move away, draw, twist and fire. Robbers are going to run after the first hit. There is no percentage for them to go after you. The Byrna first shot without charging with safety on, will get you cut, even if you can get it out in less than 2 seconds. The bang to charge S2 will be faster than taking the charged Byrna safety off. On the street the launcher choices should be among the Gavel and TCP/FSC, with pepper spray, or, the S2, with a sub 2 second draw-fire-and hit capability. Great product. A better one is coming with their bang-to-charge model eventually coming out. TBD

I believe you tested the modified Umarex HDP with the valve restrictor removed and got up upwards of 500 FPS... if the Grimburg produces 325 FPS with a "heavy" projectile, how would you compare the power of these two firearm options ? I was talking with someone about the gavle- the power is just unmatched for something that can be concealed. We were joking that using this would be like stabbing somebody with a brick. Lol.
I know curt is very adament about the twist to puncture being totally fine and not being magazine fed about the fbi statistics, but i dont think it can really be argued that having a magazine and a quick pierce wouldnt be better even if just for peace of mind. Split seconds count and IF you do need a 6th shot for whatever reason (most people arent trained and WILL miss shots on a moving target trying to attack you, especially if theres more than just one attacker) it would just be nice to have. But for less lethal, lets say its between this, a byrna, and a salt s2 and you gotta pick one, and they all work exactly as intended, id put my life on this. Concealing a byrna le currently, swapping to the gavle the moment it comes in the mail and i can test fire it with a couple mags.

Ok, now this could be VERY controversial here because I love them both! Depending on your level of training, the Byrna is much easier to use. It's also a bit easier to CC. If you're going to OC, then either one is great. That being said, the Gavel is an unrivaled powerhouse. It does have a bit of a learning curve and you are limited to 5 VERY hard shots but nothing that can't be overcome with some practice. You should ALWAYS practice with your launchers regularly so that, should the need for it arise, you are ready instantly and muscle memory takes over. You can't go wrong with either one really.

uh, sorry, but not sure if I'd feel safe with only 5 shots. What if there are more than 2 attackers (4 or 5) ?

    • @AlternateArmsSD
      @AlternateArmsSD  5 месяцев назад +2

Yeah, the biggest issue is size. Even with perfect engineering, the .68 round is big. Also, you have the limitations of the 12 (or in this case 16) gram C02 cart. They have a tremendous amount of power but limited capacity. These were never designed to be a replacement for a firearm, they are another option.

Hey brother, yeah, it’s really not in my nature to tell you which one is better per se, I want to give you all of the information and let you make your own decision. That is correct, though, the gavel does not have a swappable magazine. However, it hits considerably harder.
Truth is, you couldn’t go wrong with either one of these two launchers. They are both definitely top dogs in their game. You might also take a look at the salt supply S2.

Awesome video! I'm surprised there are not that many gavle videos out there give the launcher's insane performance.
Are these serialized? I'm leary buying one of these and carrying it out in public. I'm more confident using my EP or my TRP because LEOs know what they are. The gavle is a borderline ghost gun if it cant be traced back to the manufacturer.

I was like "Oh chit" when I fired it because it was so loud. If you need more than 5 rounds from this thing, you are no longer in a situation where you should be relying on less lethal. 5 rounds at 35-40 joules is far more effective than 10 or 15 rounds at 10-12 joules from the other concealable options. Byrna has a magazine, but by shot #6 you are at 8 joules. Paintball guns shoot at 12-14 joules, and kids shoot eachother with them for fun.
