This! It's what I've been doing for the last year. Tons of podcast, gameplay streams and videos I found entertaining. After a while I got used to actually hearing the language. Can differentiate the words in a sentence and get the general meaning even though there are some words I don't understand. I just look them up or add them to a deck if they seem like daily usage words. Sometimes I even challenge myself to listen on 2x speed lol
Could you recommend some game streams? I've been watching shows without subtitles and listening to podcasts, but I'd like to try this since I'm highly into gaming so it's easier to stay engaged
@@ErzaScarlet-xm1qq I mostly watch 仲村悠一 Nakamura Yuuichi( he's Gojo's VA grom Jujutsu Kaisen). He streams now and then on RUclips and plays various games(he's played Final fantasy, lots of GTA and many more that I don't even know 😂) I like the GTA streams because he chats with other people as well and they all have super random and funny conversations. Have a look at his playlists and past streams and see if anything interests you ☺️
Good vid, Ryan-sama. A wise man once said, "There's no such thing as passive listening, only varying degrees of active listening. By allowing yourself to always have 'Passive Listening On' you give yourself more chances to engage in active listening". - Me
I have a ton of time to be honest, but i find more interesting to do my fucking anki than to watch anime or any other visual media that i can't understand, so i do my anki everyday, and i do tons of passive listening while i play some games, and what helps me a lot is to listen to the same podcasts over and over again, this helps too much.
I’m trying this for Korean recently. I’ve technically been studying Korean for about 5 or 6 years but man I suck 😂. I can talk a little but I’d definitely hoped to be further along by now.
Post i wanted to do passive listening with one piece and realizing that i wouldn't learn a thing because they speak like, well, PIRATES (who would have thought)
When doing active immersion for listening, would you say to free flow or try to understand every thing being said? [My stats: Kaishi 1.5k done, 570 words mined, started immersion Late June]
Definitely free flow, having fun is much more important than understand everything from the beginning. If you just keep and keep going all the time, eventually you will start to understand c:
Insightful video! However, a lot of times, I know every word in a sentence, but because of the way they say it, my brain just doesn't pick up the words. Will that get better over time or should I be doing something different to help?

I don't know about podcasts, but I just use Japanese Audible for that passive listening.

Trying to understand everything will slow you down. Just free flow and try to understand the most often repeated words.

pretty sure it will get better with time
It gets better with time and the more content you consume
Fire, thanks
I try to speedread Japanese subs while listening and that seems to help
