Between the doors, shakin' heads and thinking
Light about who you're with, where you are
Blue lightning hittin' trees and lighting
Roads won't let me get too down 'cause
Sometimes you can be let down
You move on ahead in quicksand
And you hope you're still goin' east boy
It's dreamy all day drives and short parades
And I won't let it mess with my head
Just grin and live it
While you can...with wonderment
With eyes wide open
I'm taking in all I can
The small town darkness
Is singing by
In trance...I'm feeling glad
You and your friends drink, laugh
And pass out, keeping good things close
Fought till the end, it's hard to keep it all fun
I won't let it mess with my head
Won't let it mess with
Sleeping friends or their wonderment
Though the day's been really long
I still feel I'm close to nowhere
And I wouldn't let no one take my place
A warm bed, in my head I can see
The tidal wave of disappointment
See the lights shining over there
Through the night I am on the way
One snowy night in February 2000 at the fabled Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, my sixteen year old self stood right in front of the stage and I Mother Earth returned for their second encore of the night. Drenched in sweat, Bryan Byrne stepped to the mic and said "This is a song about the east coast," and my heart swelled. The song began. It remains one of the most joyful moments of my life.
Yes, but you had to hear Edwin sing it to get the full effect.
@@mikejessmax Well. Thankyou so much for attempting to diminish my very personal shared memory. I guess that's what youtube is all about. Way to go out of your way to be a dick.
Ten years later I would hear Edwin sing several IME songs with Krash Karma, but alas, not this one.
You're welcome.
Saw them at a club in Buffalo in the winter of 93. There was maybe 20 people. Great show.
@@trishjohn6050 was that the show that Therapy? opened up for them, do you remember?
this Pandemic sucks! this song needs to be turned up to 12 on the volume dial , and blasted on a sunny summer day over a nice cold bottle of beer!! iME If you are reading this..... I can't wait to see you dudes play live again!@ stay well!
Few years back I drove out east for the first time. I Mother Earth, unfortunately, was long gone from the music scene. But this song always resonated with me.. well we drove thru the weather, and then suddenly realizing we were about 10 minutes from Moncton I pulled over to find this song. Something I always wanted to do. Cranked it to 11 and played it as we drove into the city.. sounds silly, but a moment I’ll never forget
Long gone nowhere, they are still at it and still the best thing that's happened to me since cool
things started happening 25 years ago
You are not the only one to have done this :)
This song is one of the reasons i love Canada and did the trip out East. I've got a wicked pic of my guitar at the Moncton sign. Ill never forget the imagery these guys gave me on my way growing up. I cant wait for this album to be as good as it is among the forgotten shit of my time. This was probably my favorite album.

I can hear a Led Zeppelin's feeling here. This is great!
I'm on my way to Moncton in an hour
up by fredericton where they put in the new highway that bypasses saint john. cuts straight accross from fredericton to the river glade area? just a guess. if not where is it?
It is too bad that Edwin and the rest of the band had problems. If they could have figured it out they could have become one of the greats.
Reunion tour is on right now with edwin Playing ottawa oct/28/2016
he's playing here in Halifax, NS too.
Seeing them in Moncton on Nov.4th....
Cheers to that bro. They were pretty awesome and unique.
