As a new business owner myself, I want to thank you for showing the nitty gritty of the life. Very few people outside the life truly understand. Thanks !
TBF, Sales is rarely in charge of cost control, that is usually done by CFO/Operations. Sales isn't in charge of efficiencies, nor do they get rewarded for it. You want your sales guys selling, and any attempt to deviate from that goes poorly.
Watching this almost made me want to return to sales! So many unexplored opportunities out there. Love the way you get down to it and look at everything and question - the profit from those 2 small boxes going to the restaurant wouldn't cover the cost if the fuel getting them there let alone the van, wages, uniform etc! Wishing you the success you deserve James 😊
Bang on point about garden centres, I am a sales agent and have been saying this for years, and it is who I concentrate on, I cant believe your sales team is not visiting customers every other week in the summer and once a month in the winter!
Must say James loving this page, was dubious at first but you speak so much sense. Regards the Salesman situation a van spare effectively as deliveries could go in to one why not have a van that is effectively a merchandiser in the Southend area? carrying stock to replenish low stocks in stores and to ensure that Rossi product gets prime shelving in the stores? Also getting your new products into local businesses. I think that you would find always an order to be supplied from an experience that I had years ago when a certain battery company used to come and visit a business that I ran, you would always buy something for stock.
I know this is an old video but just a point to touch on for your coffee sampling I’d hazard a guess and say all of your coffee samples are going to waste Your 125g sample pack goes to the owner, right? Then what? For them to sample your beans they’d need to: - empty and clean there grinder - find the correct grind setting - find the optimal brew ratio - taste the coffee … all in 7 shots! Nearly impossible even for the most skilled barista. Really, the only way you’d be able to offer actual coffee samples would be with a mobile coffee van/cart that would give staff the finished product to taste
How about instead of leaving samples offer a starter pack of goods on sale or return basis. Some sweets, coffee, ice cream etc. Try this with a few stores, they will hopefully sell the product and start ordering. If it works you can roll it out further, if it doesn’t it’s cost a few quid.
Have you considered your Sales Director having a sign written car or van to advertise the brand as he visits all your customers and potential locations? What about a referral scheme for existing customers so they get a kick back for recommending your brand to others, we all know that the industry talks! Short term consignment stock of sweets and coffee could work, especially in those garden centres, reduces the risk to their organisation. Finally, sounds like you have the facts and figures to justify people stocking your goods, so are they being used in the pitch? Great work though, door knocking was my greatest, but also hardest part of early years in sales.
Hello James, Just watched this. For you to obtain new customers, they need to timely respond to enquiries etc from new customers in particular, and existing customers too. I am still waiting for a response from before Chirstmas. Great video, by the way.
Fantastic video. It’s rare that people would have such optimism and excitement watching their business fight the daily struggle. Highlight for me was the connection you made with the gentlemen who runs the family fish and chip shop. Keep it up! Soon see Rossi everywhere… hoping someone watches this video and makes a large order.
James - I though companies like Cadbury's have "Sales Reps" who do the deliveries and put stock on the shelves, thus ensuring that they maximize sales and get pride of place. Could you employ delivery people who are really salespeople - it would cost more but your sales would go up and if on commission they would call into all of the little corner shops you would not normally tackle with an email? Your existing delivery staff could deliver to places where there is no customer facing (or where the shop really is on board) where you are unlike to be able to increase stockholding. Every contact with the customer is a chance to promote/sell a little more!
Love this video I have tried the cola bottles and the foam bananas and rainbow pencils and they taste really good I would highly recommend people buying them Jimbo
Great video! I see/hear so many small business owners not willing to go out get their feet on the ground to drum up business, it’s refreshing to see that an enterprise as large as yours with the history of Rossi still can hugely benefit from going to see these premises! 💀 🇬🇧 🪟 👑
6:32 James proceeds to invade chap's personal space. 🤔 the chaps moves. 🤣 it's helpful to read body-language ALL the time, even when you are in sales zone. 😉 and all repeats gain at 7:55 😂
The londis is needing some branding on the freezer doors. Missed opportunity?. The fish and chip shop needs grab and go boxes with half a dozen tubs, done as “a donut box” kind of assortment.
The biggest takeovers from this video 1. Instead of focusing on increasing new customers, retarget old customers to increase long term business relationships. 2. A marketing strategy to offer a free gift to the loyal customers so they feel valued which means they are most likely to stay longer with you. 3. When starting any business you have to make sure you know it inside and out to always make improvements. 4. Letting your customers know you are constantly upgrading your products can generate more demand. 5. Entrepreneurship can break you due to unexpected energy prices increasing and also very hard months without sales etc so always stay consistent and invest smart into the right things for example marketing
If you're not getting ice cream business in your own back yard in a seaside town (I mean city) there's something wrong. Channel 4 Sunday night - The secret world of ice cream...
Great video! My personal opinion, the sales director is poor and comes across too complacent. The points you made to drive up sales, he should already be doing, that’s the reason he was hired. He should have strategies in place to target the smaller businesses as they set up a good solid foundation for the business.
You want to get your Rossi ice creams into those milkshake bars that pop up everywhere. There’s loads of them and they go through ice cream like nobody’s business. Should also be running Instagram and TikTok ads for your leisure businesses. Lots of eyeballs for minimal cost if done correct. Nice video as always, I like the honesty, show the failures as well as successes.
James, sell more vegan icecream, it tastes much better than the cruelty version. You can the also promote your business as cruelty free, kinder to animals, better for your health and better for the environment. Be a leader and show others how it needs to be done. (SUBSCRIBED) 👍
My mouth droped when he said 9 somthing for fish and chips .... we pay 14cash hear for normal fish and chips ..... why is it all going to sh*t 😢 life is to unaffordable nowadays
As a new business owner myself, I want to thank you for showing the nitty gritty of the life. Very few people outside the life truly understand. Thanks !
Real man real business
Not fake show off car I learned so much
Thanks again brother
This has been my favourite of your day in the life videos James. I could watch these with you in problem solving every day! Thanks
Thanks Damian. We will keep on making them!
@@JamesSinclairEntrepreneur Great video
What you're doing is WHAT your Sales Director should be doing. IMHO you need to make him work harder. Get him a branded shirt that fits him!
TBF, Sales is rarely in charge of cost control, that is usually done by CFO/Operations. Sales isn't in charge of efficiencies, nor do they get rewarded for it. You want your sales guys selling, and any attempt to deviate from that goes poorly.
If that is your sales director, what is he directing? How passive are the sales people then? Not a lot of energy as a sales person.
100% agree!!
James your videos always impress me. The inner drive you have to problem solve, allows you to see sales gaps on the spot. Massive respect.
This is an excellent example of how business should be ran making that customer connection getting direct feedback with your customers its great.
It's great that the owner of the business is out doing this but surely this should have been noticed by the sales director and employees already!

Bless the Oldhams guy great fish and chips so many childhood memories when I watch your videos

Remember having Rossi Ice Cream as a kid in Southend many years ago, was always my favourite. Happy days.
Great video. Are the van drivers incentivised to promote and push sales?
What an absolutely brilliant watch. Very honest, Very real. No BS👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
This was a fantastic video James, operations and sales in the real world. Really well filmed and edited too. Thank you team

This is a great video and has driven me to start getting meetings arranged with our clients again as well!
That manager is all "yeah yeah I know, we should sort that out"
It's your job mate.
I’ve never seen Rossi ice cream in the Staffordshire area, you need to expand

I think what would really differentiate is Electric vans and more vibrant wrap on the vans.
Hello James,

I am still waiting for a response from before Chirstmas.
Great video, by the way.
You need more sales team on the road
Knocking doors all day long.
How do you incentivise your driver to sell? Surely this would be one of the 1st thing you'd look at.
Love this interview with Oldhams fish & chips, so vulnerable, so down to earth
Awesome video James as always. Starting to build my website now for my mobile mechanic business, hopefully get my own garage eventually

Love these style videos. Excellent insights as usual.
Love this video I have tried the cola bottles and the foam bananas and rainbow pencils and they taste really good I would highly recommend people buying them Jimbo
Good video James, just out of interest do you bake at Rossi, I couldn't help noticing the brown bakery baskets outside the warehouse.
Absolutely- cakes, Bread, sausage rolls etc etc
Great video James, thanks for sharing.
You spoke about coffee for the winter, why not Rossi Hot Chocolate?
you need to advertise it as Italian ice cream like Kelly's advertise there's made in Cornwall
Good episode James
Loved the video, keep them coming.
Thank you 👍👍
I’m in Thurrock, no one is stocking your ice creams that I can see. Need another sales rep?
Need more like these 😊 Party Group Weekly 💪
Great video! I see/hear so many small business owners not willing to go out get their feet on the ground to drum up business, it’s refreshing to see that an enterprise as large as yours with the history of Rossi still can hugely benefit from going to see these premises! 💀 🇬🇧 🪟 👑
Great content James
Love it, James 👊

That driving clip made me very uncomfortable as an ex-police officer, should also focus on safety culture I'd suggest.
The londis is needing some branding on the freezer doors. Missed opportunity?. The fish and chip shop needs grab and go boxes with half a dozen tubs, done as “a donut box” kind of assortment.
People get complacent and need leadership.
Lol what has the Sales Director been doing?
"I'm not sure of the figure, but it Doubled " how did you let him away with that James

If you're not getting ice cream business in your own back yard in a seaside town (I mean city) there's something wrong. Channel 4 Sunday night - The secret world of ice cream...
Presentation of the ice cream isn't keeping up with modern venues. The flavour name isn't stuck in the ice cream. Need to look at the competition
Great video! My personal opinion, the sales director is poor and comes across too complacent. The points you made to drive up sales, he should already be doing, that’s the reason he was hired. *7:55** Said something important there* - won't do ⭐ Delivery apps becauseeee.....
‘I’m a strange individual’ lol
Vat needs to be brought down

Yes, but as a "competitor", will you help us grow our ice cream business?
You risk trashing the brand by wholesaling to restaurants. You lose control over how they use it, they want credit, you get bad debts.
What does your sales director do lol
Collects a pay check ✅ 😂
Sales manager needs some training
Why dont the ice cream delivery guys take free sample with them when delivering.
