I came out as bi, and my parents only reaction was surprise that I wasn't a lesbian.

    • @kylaquinn2143
      @kylaquinn2143 7 лет назад +17

Talk Toxic I think something important to remember is that you don't have to come out all at once. Maybe tell one friend or one parent. I definitely spaced mine out, because it made me less anxious. Whether they believe you or not doesn't change the fact that you are bi. So maybe they'll believe you're straight or gay instead (and don't get me wrong, it is REALLY frustrating), but if you date both or talk about the people you have crushes on from both genders, it makes it kind of hard to ignore and not believe. I don't think I've heard of people having parents who laughed at them because of it. Maybe you can ask a parent for advice on how to ask a (insert member of the opposite gender) out? My mom reacted well to that because her priority has always been to get me through times of emotional turmoil without a break down (I have panic and anxiety, so I'm a bit prone to them). You know your parents best, and you probably have at least an inkling of an idea on how they feel about members of the LGBT community. So go into it knowing how they feel and therefore how they may react. I hope it goes well for you, but even if it doesn't, remember that it isn't something you can change and so you shouldn't be ashamed. It might take some time, but hold tight amd I'm sure they'll come around.
*sorry If that didn't totally answer the question and/or wasn't helpful*

I came out today. It was hard. I went on a date with a boy and told my mom. She was shocked. Then I told my sister, she cried because she didn't know how to handle it. I told my dad and he gave me a hug and said it's okay. I cried in his arms. Today was an emotional day for me. I felt every emotion possible. I feel lighter than ever before. Coming out is really hard but as soon as you tell the world you are free to be yourself forever. Don't wait for the world to be ready. Be brave, just say those two words, whatever it is, "I'm gay...bi...trans" Just be you. ❤

But they don't really get the concept of the whole LGBTQ thing so I'm done trying to come out and eventually like during college I'll just mantion that I have a boyfriend for something but by now idc if people knows, Idk I feel like it shouldn't define you that much so I don't care to come out to people until they ask me.

I'm 31...I've come out to some people... but it's so much effort to have to keep coming out... friends have come and gone...my family still love me but it's like they have wiped it from their mind -- my dad still says to me "when are you going to have a baby to continue to the family name?" and my mother is like "When are you going to find a nice girl?"... I told my sister I was meeting up with one of my female friends and she was like "is she single?"
I've not been lucky to find a group of close friends - mostly because I hid my sexuality for a long time - i guess people saw me as fake and I also had so many barriers up that I stopped anyone getting close.
It's taken me a long time to accept that I like guys and be ok with that... I'm now working on not giving a crap what others think - I can't live life trying to please everyone else and morphing into something they may accept - I need to learn who I am and just be happy with that...people can love or hate for who I am instead.
I've been living in Japan for almost 8 years -- it seems like the rest of the world is moving so fast and here is stuck in the 80's :-(

I'm so sorry to read that you had to go through this.. I wish we lived in a world where something like that couldn't happen. You're right about living your life not trying to please everyone, I truly hope that you'll find someone who will love you for who you are one day. But i'm not worried about that, you seem like a genuinely good person, you'll find someone eventually !

As they said in the video, being in the closet is exhausting, painful and the constant fear and sadness can be very harmful, but coming out is often a luxury many of us can't afford, myself included. I used to be jealous of straight ppl since they didn't have to go through all this, but then I realised everybody has their own share of problems, and it taught me to be more kind. That's really the gist of it actually, be kind and don't judge, and hopefully one day nobody would have to come out.

it's so much more than not being able to talk about who you're attracted to. i was trying to hide all of my feminine traits because people link it to homosexuality all the time. having to watch america's next top model in secret, not being able to wear what you want to wear, not wanting to be around too many girls not because you don't like them but because you want to be masculine. it's exhausting.

Focus on growing up and becoming a stronger person. Tell people once you are living on your own and not dependent on anyone financially and emotionally.

I told my mom I had a crush on this girl when I was 5 and I didn’t think about it... cuz I was 5... so technically that’s when I came out but when I was 11 I knew everything and thought about it and one day she asked me “honey are you gay?” And it took me a while but I said “yeah I think so...” and she said “I know. And I love you the same.”
Me: thank you- Wait. You knew?
Her: yeah you had a crush on a cute girl named Makayla when you were 5 I suppose you forgot you told me but I remember :)
Then I got really embarrassed but now I’m glad 5 year old me trusted my mom and didn’t think anything about who I loved. It’s kinda strange when someone knows your gay before you do though. I did know by the time I was like 9 just because I knew about LGBT and I knew I didn’t like guys. So that was fun

Niden Mladenov I'm gonna assume you're fairly young? When I was in ms/hs I questioned/experimented with my sexuality a lot. I hate remembering those years. Ugh so confusing and painful. I came out as bisexual and dated/had sex with both guys/girls. But after a few years things settled and in the last 5 years I've been in a heterosexual relationship. Point is it gets better. You get older, have time to find yourself and your head clears. You reach the point you know what you like and however it turns out it's not bad. If you're straight you're straight. If you're gay you're gay. However you are you can still have a family and a good life. Keep your head up.

Im 15 and I came out 2 years ago. My mom is perfectly fine with it. My dad isn't, but he is someone I cut out of my life. I also had a few friends leave me because of it. But then I made a lot more friends that accepts me the way I am. The point of me telling everyone this, is that if someone dislikes you for who you are. Take them put of your life. You will be much more happy. I got to the point of coming out that when someone asks me If I'm gay. I say yes. I came out to three people in my classroom yesterday😂😂 all three where fine with it, but one of them got closer with me. This little thing about you, can make people like you more. Not because of just being gay, but because you had the guts to say it. It's hard. Really hard. I hope Everyone going through something like this has a happy ending. Because after I came out. My life became 30 times more better

I came out to my parents this year (i'm 15) and they took it well but they always make me feel bad about it. they are always asking me if i like girls and don't let me sleep over my best friends house ( she's a girl) because guys and girls can't be alone together but i have already told her that i'm gay and she still doesn't accept it. every time anything like that comes up she tells me well we just have to keep hoping that's this is a phase or that we can get you some help to make sure that your gay because i don't want that for you and all it does is make me feel bad about myself but i've been dealing with it. what really hurt me the most was that when i came out to them they said okay and that they will love me forever but that i can't tell family and friends that because they don't want them knowing, another thing that hurt was that they told me that they accept me but that want me to participate in "heterosexual" activities like sorts and hang out with guys. if they really accepted me then they wouldn't try to change me

    • @garygibson9074

Mathew Torres so I'm sorry for what you're going through. I know it seems hard right now. I know it feels like it's never going to get better, but it does. I don't know your struggle, but I know what mine was like. It felt like people that had taught me right from wrong somehow forgot those lessons themselves. It made me feel like suddenly I was the adult and they were the child. Behaving selfishly; thinking only of themselves while I was dealing with a very real and very difficult situation. And this will not be the last time you will find yourself disappointed by them because they are only human. You are growing up and the consequence is that you will now sometimes discover that the "adults" in the room often behave like children. And you will see this many more times throughout your life.
But if you love them, then be patient with them. And keep being yourself because you are beautiful. The rest will work itself out. Best of luck Sir.

Matthew, I am really, really sorry for what's happened to you. I'm myself am not gay/lesbian, but I really wish you the best. I'm sorry that your parents have done that to you. I can't say it as eloquently as Gary Gibson managed to, but just know that what he said encompasses my thoughts, especially the end. I hope that you can find someone in your life that will accept you for who you are, and more than that, love you for it. Oh, this also applies to Johnny O. And I wish we lived in a society where people could be themselves without being judged, and I am so sorry that we don't. Also, I'm sure that coming out to your parents must have been really hard for you, and you are so brave for doing it at 15. I hope everything turns out well for you, and that everything with your parents ends up alright.
I don't know anything about you personally, but I read a lot, and it's a way that I release my emotions. If it's something that you enjoy, I would recommend Wattpad (for both books and writing, I'm sure that many people can sympathize with your story, and if it's something you might like, I would read your story, if that helps). Anyway, that was just advice from a nerd who hasn't had to deal with anything like that in her life. I hope you find something that works for you.

Mathew Torres Man, this almost brought tears to my eyes... I wish you the best of luck and I really do hope it gets better and that your mother accepts the fact that this is not a phase. It is a part of your identity, not like what defines you as a person, but a pig part of who you are, and I hope the people around you learn to accept that. This is excactly why I’m afraid of coming out. But then again, I am about 3 years younger than you, though you don’t have to be a certain age to realize what you’re attracted to. I am a closeted bisexual, and stories like yours are the reason I’m so afraid of the my future as a closeted member of the LGBTQ+ community. Again, I truly do wish you the best of luck, and always keep in mind that you don’t have to change, you just be you, and if the people around you don’t accept that, then don’t keep listening to that same stuff that hurts you. I know it’s easier said than done, but you can do it.

FwP Commanndo gaming 1103 I feel like lesbians and gays often have slightly different experiences :) like for example the one guy in this video saying his dad blamed himself for not taking him fishing, etc. for men there's judgement of not being masculine enough. with lesbians (not always) there's often the judgment of being too masculine or not feminine enough. so the pressures and worries are different, and I'd be interested to hear about them.

I remember one night, when I was 15, laying in bed and forcing myself to whisper out loud, 'Am I a lesbian?' I was very much still questioning, but it was getting to the point that I couldn't deny something was up, and it was really eating at me. I'm not kidding when I say I've never experienced such an intense release of emotion in my life. And they were all totally conflicting emotions too!! I was relieved and terrified and thrilled and confused and scared and a thousand other things all at the same time, it was just so much to process. I really think straight people underestimate the power of the closet and how much strength and courage it takes to break out of it.

IMO, it should be MANDATORY for parents to go through some type of sexual orientation course at some point in their lives, whether high school or wherever. Because the population is growing. So with that, a higher population of homosexuals will be produced than in the past. Courses and/or classes MUST be established to help everyone understand the different facets of sexual orientation so it can be dealt with and adjusted to, much more easily.

I'm gonna keep it real you don't need to tell them yet. Focus on yourself and your education and your own life don't worry about anyone else and what they will think. Focus on growing up and becoming a stronger person.

My son's gay. We suspected since he was 2.. I was sure when he was 6 or 7.. he always denied it though. He came out when he was 12.. he's 14 now. We love him so much! He also loves fishing and camping lol

My mom found out i was pan sexual because on pan sexual pride day I posted a pan sexual flag on instagram and she called me and asked me what it was. I told her and the next day she took me to a food place. When we got there she told me pan sexual isn't a thing and she found out I had a girlfriends and said that It's a phase and I'm not actually bi and I kept telling her I'm pan and she kept saying I was too young and she went through the phase too.....I've been pan for a year and I have had my girlfriend for 7 months my mom thinks I'm straight and thinks I broke up with my girlfriend and now she's a good friend

Xander Bonds Can you explain me what pansexual is?

Cry_Baby 69 The key difference between being bi and pan is that bisexuals have gender preferences, while pansexuals don't. A bi person may be attracted to only cis people, while a pan person may be attracted to whatever identity a person uses. I hope this helps.
