its sad that Malaysia Airlines is only known by most people for the disappearance of MH370, when in fact it had less than 5 fatal crashes in its 77years history
Interestingly, for the past month and even as of this writing, Malaysia Airlines have been flying this route (MH165) with A350s. I know someone who arrived from Doha on this flight and it is on the A350. This particular plane you were onboard is now used on the Melbourne-KL route.
Wanna know a trick? 1K is the throne seat with a big fat footwell. I'm MH Platinum and rack up 20+ mostly business flights a year (admittedly most of which are in the 738s). Only ever snagged that seat once 😢 (tend to book very late)
As a Malaysian, I am glad to hear that Malaysia Airlines has been profitable recently and I hope this will be the norm rather than the exception moving forward. Let's go beyond and forward!
My Malaysian flights were always an inexpensive upgrade. I always snagged a regional business class seat on their lowest upgrade bid (which includes full lounge access), and the one time I was stuck in economy was a 5th Freedom flight from Japan to California in a cabin so empty everyone had multiple rows to spread out on 🇲🇾😎
I flew on their 737-800NG from HKG to KUL and back in March in economy and even that experience was very nice! Food was yummy and flavoursome, service was Asian efficiency mixed with warm Asian hospitality. A lot better than European experiences sad to say, they really need to catchup, but sadly people have a habit of just “putting up” and accepting sub par soft product experiences. In economy the hard product is almost indistinguishable so it’s the soft product that sets Asian airlines apart from Western ones.
Same with all the North American airlines. I live in Canada now, but am Malaysian... and the quality of the service and product on all the Canadian airlines, even the national carrier is godawful in comparison with the Asian airlines.
@@sharraleigh I can confirm that. Last year we flew Air Canada from LHR to YVR, which was fine but staff friendly but that was about it, but then YVR to YYZ we were delayed for 3 hours on the tarmac because they had to draft in a standby Captain last minute because our original one was severely delayed on another flight. Then finally our flight from YYZ to LHR was also delayed by 2 hours. Both delayed flights as you can imagine the cabin crew were fed up and not as nice as the first and food is nothing to shout about.
737 is a terrible plane😔.. very uncomfortable. And noisy. I always have that plane for the first leg to Dubai, then it's A380 😊 which is so nice to ride!. Incomparable with 737 dream liner !
Lovely review of MH you got here, Dan! The airline has actually upgraded this flight from an A330 to an A350 recently. In fact, this flight is currently operated by the sole ex-SAS A350 they have in their fleet. MH's Doha route now runs with A350s twice daily. Regarding the business class lavatories, the 2nd lav at door 2 is actually solely for business passengers, despite there being two rows of economy seats between door 2 and the business cabin. The right side lavatory at door 2 is locked by crew members and only unlocked when business class passengers use it. If the lav at the front is occupied, crew will guide the business class passenger to the lav at door 2 and unlock it. After each use, they clean it and lock it again. Those two rows of economy passengers would have to use the lav on the left or the ones down in the main economy cabin. Good to see that the improvements to service and product offerings MH had been making is bearing fruit. These tired A330ceos will soon be replaced by A330neos, which will be featuring Collins Aerospace's Elevation business class product. First of those are due to arrive in September. Their A350s will also be refitted in 2026 with an identical or similar product. So this inconsistent Thompson Vantage configuration will soon be no more.
I am Malaysian, but putting biases aside, Malaysia Airlines business is excellent. Agree with all your assessments... cabin crews are wonderful, seats and storage/amenities are great and if you are going for the regular menu, food is fantastic. And yeah the IFE is meh. As a Malaysian, I always look forward to stepping on board MH when it's time to go home especially. It feels like I've come home before I actually do.
I once flew domestic every week for 6 months straight while working for my former company. I always love it when I booked MAS, as most of the earliest domestic flights are not full and the breakfast of nasi lemak is just awesome!
something i love about any youtube videos talking about malaysia, i always get to see malaysians and singaporeans (sometimes indonesians too) going at each other's throats at which country is better. its hilarious to me how patriotic someone can get over which airline is better
Did you not get the Malaysian Airlines performing arts safety video? I flew Malaysian last summer and was surprised, baffled and amazed by it, would have thought it would get a mention
Great review. Probably you should also review Garuda, another airline Qatar is outsourcing on one of its primary routes, more specifically, Doha-Jakarta when you have the chance.
Malaysia Airlines are seriously trying their best. The first step is of course to make enough money. 2014 was such an unfortunate year for the airline and it took a decade to finally make decent profit. Finally with enough money, they’re able to improve their cabin products coming later this year as well as new planes. Definitely a good step in the right direction! The CEO’s aim is to get them in the top 10 best airline and launch more routes to Europe. I’m flying them to Doha in June on their SAS hybrid cabin on their A350 which I’m excited about! 🎉
Hi. Fyi Malaysia Airlines (previously known as M.A.S, which was a split from M.S.A) used to be top ranked among the world which was often looked up by others and newcomers like Etihad, Emirates and Qatar but improvised further. Including SIA. Unfortunately when MAS realised this, it was too late and had to play catch up game when others were already far ahead.
Thank you for showing food options other than the vegan ones! That's honestly the only thing I've thought has been lacking in your videos since I've started watching. Keep up the great work Dan!
I took this same flight in January, was definitely good enough. QR had absolutely zero pax on the flight (as you probably know QR controls most of the seats on this flight and MH only gets 4 or so seats they can assign on their tickets, I was on an MH ticket), so there were exactly 2 passengers in business class, myself and the sports minister of Malaysia. Was a VERY peaceful flight. I can also say the crew was excellent on that flight, but with only 2 passengers to take care of, it's hard to go wrong.
Dan, I really enjoy your airline reviews. Your don't pull any punches when it comes to the negatives, but you point out the shortcomings in a classy and constructive way. The background music you play is soothing and uplifting, and your production quality is excellent. The seat map graphics are awesome. Thanks for a great channel, and for helping fliers save money.
It used to be in the top 10 best airline in the world but the series of unfortunate event has put it in the 60-70. It's sad but I hope they don't lose hope and continue improving, the only way to fix this is to be consistently show that the airline standard are high and it's safe to board. We can only hope that over time people will regain their trust in the airline.
Context: I have been flying with this airline for almost 30 years. The overall MH product at present seems to have had some improvement in the last year or so compared to during and just after the pandemic when it was quite honestly just appaling. How low does a business need to go when it illegally and immorally keeps funds/credit from customers by cancelling flights and just refusing to process refunds. Mind you, they were not the only airline doing this. The single biggest issue with the airline is the lack of strong and honest leadership/management. The management has been changed too many times, each time failing to make any significant improvement and change. That is why slowly but surely, its overall standards today just does not seem to be quite the same as that of yesteryear. Any business that hopes to succeed must have high levels of discipline, reliability, integrity and accountability. Yet, Malaysia Airlines for many years just seems to have a business model that cannot produce those qualities consistently. Ultimately, the airline needs to decide what is more important to them. Is it to produce a top quality product to rival that of SIA, Qatar? Or is it to nonchalantly accept being mediocre/average? If it's the latter, then I suppose they're doing alright. But if they are aiming for the former, then quite sadly , I feel that they have a long way to go.
Flew in their A330 and A350..recently via Doha in economy. To make it brief in the standard category of mention. Food, service, flight comfort and feeling well served and nice feeling..etc. To be very honest. They are way to go..to be in Qatar, SIA, Emirates.. way way to go. This is very frank assessment from me.
Hey Dan! would love to see you review more of Australia's airlines, specifically our horrible budget airlines just so you can validate our feelings about them and hopefully get the word out there in the airline/flying community so those companies can finally work on improving! Love your videos!
I was on Jetstar and Virgin aus a couple of weeks ago and they seemed pretty decent in terms of service. You get a free carry on bag which is amazing and Virgin even handed out free drinks. Luckily didn't get to see the treatment of delayed/ cancelled flights.
I can assure you Jetstar and Virgin are far far better than flying “full-service” US airlines like American or United. Trust me, we have it a lot better in Australia.
1:41 - isn't that the standard? You always check-in at the airline operating the first leg of your "remaining" portion of the ticket. The non-operating airline cannot check you in, no?
MAS has always been my favourite airline and I take it whenever I can. SIA though... is where I've always received poor treatment from the cabin crew :( so I avoid them like the plague.
I also had a great experience with them flying both economy and business. I would fly with them again but I had a terrible time trying to contact customer service when I had to change my return flight. I missed out on a stopover in KL as a result of the difficulties and could not change my flight. I would love to fly with them again but that memory is still raw.
If you have US Global Entry then you can also apply for the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC). The card provides qualifying US passport holders to expedited immigration on both arrival and departure at airports in APEC countries, including Malaysia. 🤗🤗
No need. As a US passport holder he would qualify to use the citizen autogates upon entry or exit (as do 9 other countries), you just have to apply for this at KUL immigration... BUT he doesn't read the comments here (which is where I found out about this & immediately signed up upon my next entry) 🤷🏻♂️.
The best thing about MA is that they have very good award availability, one of the best options for Qantas Freqenty fliers looking for good availability
I flew economy with them SYD KL- KL MNL last month and the planes used flying to Aus are defs outdated and tired. The ones flying to MNL from KL are much newer and nicer. Loved the fact that I could have Nasi Lemak for breakfast though lol!
Flew economy Malaysia to Sydney via KLIA and back a few days ago. Although the a350 has much better more navigable and responsive entertainment systems, nothing can beat the high ceiling cabin and boarding music on the a330 (especially with my mostly empty KUL-SYD).
There's nothing surprising about this..the western are always surprised at how developed Malaysia is..we have beautiful Islands, nature, skyscrapers, and malls..we also have access to good food almost 24/7
I gave MH a go and the actual travel experience was quite good, but my checked baggage was misplaced and I had to fight with them for over 6 months to get them to compensate me for my extra trip to the airport to collect it. I'd never fly them again
Thinking of getting your program but wondering if you get the same discounts on return tickets. So far looks like only one-way tickets based on the "reviews". Please let me know.
It's always an interesting decision. I completely respect dry countries and I can see why they choose not to serve it but on the flip side so is the UAE and Emirates and Etihad still serve alcohol. I suppose it's completely up to the airline but it would be a shame if you were expecting it!
@@Randomly_Browsingbro, you’re not in another country, you are on board of a flight crossing the globe. Leave your religion where it should be, which is on the ground.
@@Randomly_Browsing, it seems your goal in life is to reply to all people being shocked to see that MAS doesn't serve alcohol on all of their flights under 4 hours. Again, when flying, you're part of a global community traveling high up in the sky from one destination to another. The passengers are of many and diverse nationalities and cultures, you're in international airspace and nowhere this whole experience has any relation whatsoever to islam or other religions. It is therefor nonsensical, rather than me being narcissistic (mind your spelling).
11:50 the MH (Malaysian Hospitality) it’s usually applies to foreigners, particularly white people. Being a Malaysian that has flew with this airline, sorry to say but I have never came across that their service is something to scream for. 😅
Another fab vid, Dan 😊 Wi-Fi in economy is a game changer and service is always friendly. Would love to see the return of amenity kits and menus to make the economy experience a little more premium feeling…if anyone from MAS is reading 👀
MAS Cabin Crew is the best Ive ever experience with. So friendly and easy going making my journey so much more comfortable. The only downside is the food and no care package for economy class :(
MA left me stranded in Manila when the lockdowns started in 2020. No support whatsoever. Luckily Singapore Airlines had a much more professional set up otherwise I would have potentially spent 2 years away from my family. Fair weather airline. Never again.
Hi Dan, I do love a good boarding music, Emirates of course is my favourite, have not flown on other airlines recently, however I do check RUclips as you may sometimes find good ones and so far besides Emirates, I found FlyDubai, Oman Air, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Etihad have nice ones also. Anyway Malaysia Airlines, uummm...I wonder what their A350 business class looks like, this A330 is not too bad, its decent, for a tall person like myself, I do not think I would be as comfortable in that lie flat bed, I much prefer Emirates Business lie flat bed any day.
Overall the airline is progressing well no doubt. Comparing to the same class of premium airlines it is a solid 4 star. But honestly it is still far away from a 5 star airline. The staffs needs to be compensated better and of course food out of KL shud be improved as well. The food into KL is actually very good tho most of the times.
I wish they could serve you some rojak (shrimp-free of course), vegetable-stuffed tofu, vegetarian fried vermicelli, or spring rolls instead of those sad-looking sandwiches and skewers. Glad you enjoyed the congee; that's our go-to comfort food when we're sick. Love it garnished with spring onions and crispy fried shallots. We have plenty of great vegetarian dishes so they definitely could and should have done better! Is there anyone I could talk to about this? 😅 How long will you be here? Hope you enjoyed your stay
Hi Dan. I've been following you for years and have a question regarding the logistics of filming in aircraft during your travels. Do you need to obtain special permission to film onboard flights? If you have any insights or advice on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my query. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Did my original negative comments about Malaysian Airlines get deleted? My personal experience on a flight from ICN to KUL was not as 5-star when things went wrong. After a diversion to Panag left on the tarmac for 4 hours with minimal food and water for economy class (the business class was constantly serving food and drinks). Diversion I have no issue with, it was the correct safe decision to make, but if you have time to move stairs to the plane to allow ground crew on board I am sure you can bring on food for the poor economy class passengers. On-going economy passengers were then left at the air bridge while business class passengers were quickly given paperwork to on rebooking and hotels, while we had to walk to the help desk and wait while they printed our paperwork out (even though there were 4 other people at the desk chatting between themselves). Then when asking for a refund for the extra legroom seat I paid for, which we didn't get on rebooking was told these are non-refundable, even though it was their operational requirements which meant they did not deliver the product I paid for. Sorry to say your review is when things go well, I would like to see a review of how they handle things when things go wrong. More like a budget airline (Ryanair or Jetstar) than a national carrier. Never flying them again.
Dan - sorry, but Malaysia Airlines used to be ranked in the top 5 best in the world in the 90s and early 2000s. The reason for its slippage are purely political due to political interference in hiring practices (they were hiring too many people and losing money) and also financial losses resulting from the emergence of Asian budget airlines like Air Asia, plus competition from oil money backed gulf state airlines (which have also now become lousy). Malaysia Airlines (or Malaysian Airlines System - MAS - as it used to be known) was the best in the world in my view in the 90s and early 2000s. So if it's relatively unknown to you or some of your audience, it's probably because they're too young or haven't travelled much.
Thank you so much for this review I had the choice to go with them or cathy with Qatar and I will choose them. I also like your new hair cut looks amazing!

Wanna know a trick? 1K is the throne seat with a big fat footwell. I'm MH Platinum and rack up 20+ mostly business flights a year (admittedly most of which are in the 738s). Only ever snagged that seat once 😢 (tend to book very late)
Hi Dan glad that you enjoyed the Malaysian Hospitality. Met you at the aircraft door before you boarded the flight.
💙
As a Malaysian, I am glad to hear that Malaysia Airlines has been profitable recently and I hope this will be the norm rather than the exception moving forward. Let's go beyond and forward!
My Malaysian flights were always an inexpensive upgrade. I always snagged a regional business class seat on their lowest upgrade bid (which includes full lounge access), and the one time I was stuck in economy was a 5th Freedom flight from Japan to California in a cabin so empty everyone had multiple rows to spread out on 🇲🇾😎
An airline hit with the worst of misfortunes known.
Yet there are room for improvements & their order for the a330neo.
Yup, the food is abysmal and the size of the serving is suitable for a 5 year old kid 😂 joke of an airline
thank you for flying to my home city...
737 is a terrible plane😔.. very uncomfortable. And noisy. I always have that plane for the first leg to Dubai, then it's A380 😊 which is so nice to ride!. Incomparable with 737 dream liner !
Keep it up MAS. Please make us Malaysian proud again.
Appreciate you showing the other food options, Dan - gives a better idea of what's available for us non-vegans 👍
Yup, and those satay sticks look great.
As a Scot, I love a good porridge. It depends how it is cooked of course.
Non vegans can eat vegan food though, it’s an option.
I once flew domestic every week for 6 months straight while working for my former company. I always love it when I booked MAS, as most of the earliest domestic flights are not full and the breakfast of nasi lemak is just awesome!
Yes I agree. The MH crew has outstanding hospitality. They are very well trained.
thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it as a Malaysian.
I have travelled with various airlines and must say MH has the best crew 🎉
something i love about any youtube videos talking about malaysia, i always get to see malaysians and singaporeans (sometimes indonesians too) going at each other's throats at which country is better.
its hilarious to me how patriotic someone can get over which airline is better
And yet somehow still remains civils

Did you not get the Malaysian Airlines performing arts safety video? I flew Malaysian last summer and was surprised, baffled and amazed by it, would have thought it would get a mention
I love their video!
As a Malaysian i feel like its a bit over westernized with the crazy dance and music, maybe they should mix in some traditionality like SQ
"as someone who would gladly attend an airline boarding music concert" I am so glad I am not the only one!!
We need to make this happen!
Yes!
I will attend too
@@NonstopDan absolutely! I have them saved onto a designated folder in my RUclips account hehehe
My favourites are from ANA and JAL. Emirates, SQ and Turkish are also really nice to relax to as well. Any other recommendations?
They no longer deploy the a330 on the Doha - KL route and it is replaced by the newly acquired a350 from SAS
Thanks so much for this lovely comment! 🙏
This is very frank assessment from me.
does not need to be if their business case is to win the economy market in their region
This route is now served by an Airbus A350 🤩
Hey Dan! would love to see you review more of Australia's airlines, specifically our horrible budget airlines just so you can validate our feelings about them and hopefully get the word out there in the airline/flying community so those companies can finally work on improving!
Trust me, we have it a lot better in Australia.
must be someone that vwants cheap with full service - grow the F up
1:41 - isn't that the standard? You always check-in at the airline operating the first leg of your "remaining" portion of the ticket. The non-operating airline cannot check you in, no?
6:23 I noticed they put conveniently left out on their fleet page the MAX part of B737-8 and the NG 737's are labeled as B737-800NG
I used to fly Malaysia airlines all the time when I was younger, but now I don’t fly them anymore since I live in London
very nice
MAS has always been my favourite airline and I take it whenever I can.
SIA though... is where I've always received poor treatment from the cabin crew :( so I avoid them like the plague.
I always heard SIA's cabin crew is a bit underwhelming compared to MAS's. Is it a thing you always get when using their ariline?
I really love flying Malaysian Airlines for all my overseas trips. Crew are always the best, lah!
I also took Malaysia's business class last summer and I was shocked at the quality of the airline...great review even if im only 20 seconds in haha
also love beard dan
Why were you shocked? It looks pretty good to me.
Shockingly good or shockingly bad?😅
The best thing about MA is that they have very good award availability, one of the best options for Qantas Freqenty fliers looking for good availability
Malaysian 🇲🇾 here, glad you like it ❤️
I flew economy with them SYD KL- KL MNL last month and the planes used flying to Aus are defs outdated and tired.
Hi! Yes it does apply to some return flights! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to send me an email hi@nonstopdan.com
I feel like business class is usually better when there is no first class. Especially when it comes to the crew
What a let down that they didn't serve alcoholic drinks just because some people didnt like it
It's always an interesting decision. I completely respect dry countries and I can see why they choose not to serve it but on the flip side so is the UAE and Emirates and Etihad still serve alcohol. I suppose it's completely up to the airline but it would be a shame if you were expecting it!
Bro,if your coping mechanisms is alcohol, you're very pathetic for not respecting other countries's costumes
@@Randomly_Browsingbro, you’re not in another country, you are on board of a flight crossing the globe. Leave your religion where it should be, which is on the ground.
@@EGO0808 bruh so you're not gonna respect other countries customs, that's narsisisme
Dan, try out Air Astana, they got exactly the same business class seats, as on this Malaysian airlines flight
Another fab vid, Dan 😊 Wi-Fi in economy is a game changer and service is always friendly. Would love to see the return of amenity kits and menus to make the economy experience a little more premium feeling…if anyone from MAS is reading 👀
Great to hear MH being compared to the likes of TG and CX again! Way to go MH...✈️✈️✈️
MAS Cabin Crew is the best Ive ever experience with. So friendly and easy going making my journey so much more comfortable. The only downside is the food and no care package for economy class :(
Are you planning to try United’s SFO-MNL route? I was disappointed, no slippers, no pj’s given.
MA left me stranded in Manila when the lockdowns started in 2020. No support whatsoever.
Luckily Singapore Airlines had a much more professional set up otherwise I would have potentially spent 2 years away from my family.
Fair weather airline. Never again.
MAS isn't in the same league as SIA (yet), but they also nowhere as expensive 🎉
I used to travel 1st Class as a kid in the late 70s and 80s... I already knew and remember the difference... and the kebaya slit right up there... ❤😮
The word "Lah" at the end of the sentence is very common among people in Malaysia and Singapore.
MH is Malaysia my Home. You can feel it. Today's MAS is a vastly improved product for the better especially LHR to KUL return.
You have no idea how much I and many people appreciate that you show us the regular menu options 🙏🙏🙏✈️🛩
Hi Dan, they have great Satay.
HAHAHA wow you are fast😂
@@NonstopDan thanks, they are renowned for their selection😂😍👍
Looking forward to your review of the new Cathay products soon
I have really enjoyed your instagram stories this week! Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
I read in random articles (because i forgot from what site😅), they even won best served wine on the boards
Have done Australia /Malaysia many times. MH cabin crew are simply the best. And yes ,but not only ,the stewardess uniforms.
How long will you be here? Hope you enjoyed your stay
Hi Dan. I've been following you for years and have a question regarding the logistics of filming in aircraft during your travels. Do you need to obtain special permission to film onboard flights? If you have any insights or advice on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my query. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
I 💜 Malaysia Airlines for their natural genuine warm service. From Singapore 🇸🇬
I wish I could fly with MAS from manchester like I used to do ages ago.
Nice review, very interesting to see your experience aboard MH
Dan can you do Singapore airlines business or first class this July as it is special
This video is about Malaysia Airlines, not Singapore Airlines
MH is definitely improving
Thank you so much for this review I had the choice to go with them or cathy with Qatar and I will choose them. I also like your new hair cut looks amazing!
Glad it was helpful! 🙏
