  • With burglaries, break-ins and home invasion robberies on the rise, some residents are now "blurring" out their homes in the street-view function on Google Maps.

I would think the burglars would begin to specifically pick these blurred houses as targets because there must be something of value there if they are going out of their way hiding it. 🤔 It's not like you can't just look at the unblurred house next door and figure out which house is which.

I was coming here to say the exact same thing, I would assume that they would look as specifically now for houses that are blurred. 🙄 it’s funny that I just won. Law-enforcement officer thinks it’s a good idea so they’re featuring it on the news. Now watch all the criminals get on Google maps and now all the blurred houses are the ones that are getting hit.

I think a better alternative to this is to have Google show historic buildings or the first set of original street view images rather than displaying the most recent image captures. Instead, the user can opt to have the property's historic Google Street View image displayed and not become as much of an open "blurry" target. Personally I would not feel any safer or more at ease from burglars after requesting this privacy service as it stands. I honestly can see criminals looking at this now like it's a game or like a challenge simply out of spite for the current trend of blurred houses by owners.

If they cared they wouldn't be criminals it makes no difference to them anyone can be targeted they are all just waiting for that little slip up in judgment of security and often take the opportunity when it occurs.
