- On this project, I do an epoxy filled lake image. i use epoxy and blue pigment to get the look that I want. Done using my XTool D1 10 watt. For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

Best line of the night….”Epoxy & cats don’t mix”! 👍🏻 Just another vote from me enjoying your videos 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
The Clack Shack is a great RUclips channel! What’s so funny about this video is he is so self aware that us people from the south talk a lot and kinda slow so he speeds up parts of the video…. We love this guy! And he is humble enough to talk about what he learned from other people
Thanks... I try.
That fence design for the honeycomb is really smart, great video!
Yea, they are handy. Also a good use for scrap pieces of wood.
Very cool and informative. Thanx for sharing! You Rock!
Thanks for watching!
I think you’ll enjoy the air assist. I have the XTool version but also picked up the comgrow one to compare. Hoping to check it out on both lasers soon.
It looks very similar in design. I plan to try it out especially once my 2nd machine gets here.
Great video! Love your ventilation box. I just got my X1 20W and need to build the box. Terrific looking piece of mahogany.
Thanks
Can't wait to see the finished work!!
I am gonna do a video and keep it until after it is presented.
Actually got one now
Thank you for sharing your information.
Glad to help
Awesome video, if you get a chance pick up some powder coat paint and spread it into the etching with a brush and try to get into every crevice, then take like a credit card type card and scrape off the excess. After you done that reburn at a lower temp and it will burn that into your design. Might be less mess for you then using epoxy
I have heard of that approach before but on this piece, the whole thing was coated in epoxy as a finish.
Oh no! Sounds like I missed out on some fun. That blue is gorgeous against that mahogany!
It is a cool contrast
Looks awesome!! I live in Michigan and it’s a big deal to do art with the Great Lakes and the resin gives me idea to try the lakes someday :) excited to see the 20watt Pro!! I have the D1 10 watt and still learning of course … cannot wait to see your Pro working!
That makes 2 of us. Kinda like early Christmas.
Think I would have used a small funnel or syringe to drip that epoxy in LOL, but turned out beautiful. Think I"ll try this. Thanks for posting !!
Whatever works...
Have you ever considered adding a drag chain to your X1? It could help with your cable management without it rubbing on the honeycomb. I added my drag chain from one I ordered from Amazon and was able to include the air-assists line. This work great.
I have considered it but I haven't moved on it yet.
Excellent Clack Shack!!! The video is very comprehensive. I’m trying to decide between
1)painting the engraving then fill w clear epoxy or
2)fill with colored epoxy.
Any suggestions?
Do you have plans for your wood enclosure?
The colored epoxy looks nice. Pigment is just added to the clear
Have you tried using the planer to remove the epoxy overfill?
I have on some jobs, I only have a 13 inch planer. Now, I am going to have a 48" CNC for that.
More fluffy content 😂
Of course
I want to do a Celtic knot on a cutting board and then use epoxy. I have a xtool Di. Can you suggest some settings to at least start out. Thank you
Lots of variables, also depends on the output of the machine.
instead of having to use a pick to get the rest of the cut out, crosshatch the burn. It should take everything out at 254 lines per inch.
I run these at 127 lpi, 254 would take much longer. Not a bad idea on a smaller burn but the larger ones are easy to get clean.
Oops, you just said that it was Lake Martin after I asked if it was Mitchell. I'm trying to find the pattern (vectors) for Martin since I live on Lake Point Rd at Lake Martin. Where did you get yours? Would you be willing to share or sell a copy to me?
I have a file of Lake martin that I made using maps.
@@TheClackShack would you give or sell me a copy?
Looks great! I have wanted to do this on an epoxy coffee table. Where do you get the clip art of any lake to laser it in?
Google maps, some creative capturing and cleaning the file in procreate and photoshop. It takes some time
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼🎉😎
Thanks
Clack-man, I'm working on a "Lake Art" project and doing some practice pieces. I see that you sanded down the piece to level out the epoxy fill. Does the final top coat, brushed on, bring back the nice finish and remove the scuff marks left by the sanding? Did you wet sand the 300 grit? You help is appreciated.
Once it is all sanded flat, I walk it up to 2000 grit to get the shine back.
@@TheClackShack Thanks,
Is that Lake Mitchell?
Pretty sure that was Martin
@@TheClackShack Yes sir, you said Martin later on in the video. I asked if you had that graphic available to give or sell to me. I've been trying to find it so I can do a project for my neighbor (we both live in the lake area)
Looking good. What did you use for source material for the lake? We have a local lake and I can see wanting to do this on some projects.
Creative capturing from Google maps and some work in Procreate.
I just got my 10w d1 pro, and your jig doesn't fit into it. I look forward to your revision to the jig
It will be retrofitted, my machine should be here on the 4th.
I do a lot of different Resin inlays, CNC and hand routed mostly but have been trying it with a Xtool recently and I have having issues with the resin soaking in to the wood a bit too much, did you clear coat or anything before adding the resin in? Also what kind of wood did you use for that, the color is beautiful.
No prep, just engraved. That is mahogany wood
