agreed. the algorithm might not like it, but getting to the point is critical. this is also the core concept in MIT's 20.219 course on producing educational media you can take for free online, if anyone reading this is interested
Bless you for actually understanding and USING a TLDR!!! I can't tell you (I really don't want to know) how many hours of videos I've watched just to find out the information I was seeking was somewhere else! Yes, I watched your whole video. Liked and Subscribed.
Thanks a lot for your kind words. I understand the struggle of finding specific info in long videos, which is why I include the TL:DR section in all my videos. Glad you like it. Your support means a lot, and I'm thrilled to have you subscribed. 😊
This is literally one of the best videos on RUclips. It’s clear, precise. Information is put on screen when needed. Everything is explained. Lots more videos please and thank you for all the time you took making this video.
This is an outstanding video! It's clear, well organized, informative, nicely produced technically, and keeps a nice pace. This is SO very much better than the typical rambling videos I've suffered through from other presenters.
I usually hate to watch videos to learn...and would rather read instructions. But your video was so awesome. It was clear and concise. I liked that you put everything up on the screen, so it made it easier to understand and I could jot down notes. Also, a bit of humor!! Thank you!
I truly appreciate your kind words, and I'm delighted to hear that you found the video helpful. Making the content clear and informative is always the goal.😊
I was struggling to get nice, clean engraved pieces incorporated into my stained glass work. FINALLY, your video provided the tips and tricks I was seeking in order to get my engraving to the level I have been looking for AND you showed me how to do it without needing to mess with painting the glass first! The black back drop is brilliant and my results are SOOOO much cleaner and better! THANK YOU for a fantastic post!!
Hi, I make stained glass as well. Have you experimented at all with scoring glass via laser? If so, have you found any techniques/settings that work particularly well?
@user-nn5xb3ly8h Yes! I have had the best luck with 100% power and speed set at 10 (on the xtool software). When done, use an exacto knife to clean out grooves/etching. I also have used "rub and buff" to make the etching "pop" in certain pieces...especially when etching in clear glass.
Lightburn now has a material test pattern built into the laser tools menu. Thanks for the tip on engraving from the clear side of the glass. That's made it WAY easier to get consistent results! Edit: Forgot to add - thank you! The format of this video is awesome. Love the concise delivery and clear explanations.
I really appreciated the up-front summary with minimal padding here. It made me very confident you were going to provide the information I needed later in the video. Great formatting, presentation, and information.
The moment I see engraving glass. I clicked the like button, subscribed and rang the bell. I took a screenshot of the power and speed settings for reference. Thanks for such an awesome video.
Thanks for the lesson, Sir Very details for me, before i watch your video, i want do the same methods as what you do, & finally i found your video & made me more easy, thank you so much
Most videos i view i say, "Please get to the point", then i come across yours, and BOOM, you instantly gave the info needed. Honestly that made me stay for the whole video. Excellent presentation and excellent info! Thank you!
Nicely done 😊 !!! I just spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at other videos that didn’t explain crap- m’so SO happy to find your channel! Thank you SO SO MUCH for the actually useful and insightful content- Legitimately and for real-
I liked and subscribed because you gave the short version before the details. I hope this catches on becasue I can't tell you how many vids I stopped watching becasue they couldn't stop wasting my time. So, thank you for doing that! And, also, thanks for the advice for engraving! I will save you for when I get my setup ready.
Echoing what everyone else is saying - THANK YOU. After going through a bunch of different videos, this included everything so quickly and efficiently. I appreciate it so much. I am absolutely subscribing and looking forward to more!
I don't know where to begin. I'm so glad I found your channel. I was getting very frustrated trying to engrave glass. Thank you for the TLDR, then the long explanation, and then side tips. Thank you also for actual settings for the Xtool 20w. You are the man!
I just love how you explain every factor to consider very impressive with your video not only are they on point they are so informative. A very big thankyou . I subscribed looking forward to more great videos.
New to using diode laser and was looking for info. Found this video and it is exactly what I was looking for. Speed is great, Information is precise, and writing info is easy to follow as well. Pleas make more, as I have a lot to learn, and I like what I have learned from you so far.
It is good to see real numbers given, for various powers. And you even give a methodology to get our own results. You have precise approach of the job, I like it. Thanks for the video.
Nice video especially with me being a noob! I REALLY appreciate the settings you used as that at least gives a decent starting point rather than just saying to run a test grid to determine your own settings. Of course you still need to run a test grid but can always try a quicky with the settings you provide :) Subscribed and looking forward to more! TLDR is great! I watched the whole thing pretty much anyway (skipped some parts like how it works towards the end as I already knew that.).
Just came across this video while surfing. THANK YOU for this, this is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find when I started looking for the information on etching glass. all I currently have available right now are a couple of 3018 routers and they will only support a 5.5 watt laser.
I use tempra paint and like you said I spray it on. Something else I've tried that works well is candle black which is the soot from a candle. It is fast to put on and there is no drying time and washes off with water.
Has to be the best how do video that I’ve seen, he doesn’t try to make himself look good! Get’s right to the subject. I will be trying this on my 5 watt with black paper (not a fan of paining). Next I’m looking for info on engraving mirrors!
Thank you for your kind words. I always try to minimize fluff and get straight to the point. 😊 The black cardstock method works well for most of the projects, but I personally think paint produces slightly better results when it comes to engraving photos with intricate details. To engrave mirror, you can engrave the back of the mirror and remove the reflective coating.
I’ve just got my first 5w diode laser and this video was fab, easy to listen to not loads of waffle and to the point . Thank you so much a video on reverse engraving on wood to make letters stand out to a good depth would be ace, and also one on engraving photos from picking a photo onward please x
Thanks for the great video. I have and xTool D1 10w and I have improved my laser engraving and cutting thanks in part to your channel. Keep making videos! Project Idea if you would like to tackle it. I would love to see a video where you teach us to make custom finger joint boxes. For instance. A wall hangable 3 tier shelf system for holding flat stock like wood or actylic. Having the shelves slightly angled up would keep the material securely in place. There are box generators online, but knowing how to size the slots for your material and make matching tabs would be a great and practical project.
Loved the video, straight to the point with very good examples. The settings for the different Watts are really a big help. Keep on making these videos.
Just found your video and it gave me a good baseline on how to engrave glass. I found that the best way to get an even coat was to dilute the tempera paint with rubbing alcohol and use an airbrush to get an even fast drying coat. Then let it dry in from of a fan or use a heat gun in low to medium setting. But all in all great video.
Hey, great video! Great pacing, valuable information! Ok, so slowing down and turning up the power makes it etch the top surface instead of the bottom, do we have to adjust the focus?
Yes you will need a new sheet every time but it is cheaper than other methods. The surface of the cardboard burns off, however, at times you can flip the sheet and use it.

I will try your technique if I'm ever etching onto a flat surface!
Excellent job you are amazing for sharing this. Can you make a video on what laser to by fir someone wants to start you seem to get to the most valuable information. Thank you.
This was incredibly helpful!! I love how thorough you were in your testing and that you included the settings (you'd be surprised how many creators don't). Do you think matte black vinyl might work well, especially for curved surfaces where cardstock might gap and even painting might be difficult?
Glad you liked the video! Vinyl might be an easier option for curved surfaces, but it is not safe to laser cut or engrave vinyl (unless you use laser safe vinyl).
A year late but, the best explanation so far on the tube, clear, to the point, and all the information we need. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you found the video helpful. 😊
The most interesting part in your videos is that you show the speed and power used for every single diode machine.
Very nice work keep going.
Thank you very much!
I like your style. Not an unnecessary word in the whole video. Going through your library atm. Keep it up.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Means a lot! I always try to keep the fluff out and provide valuable information only in my videos. 😊
Wow. A RUclipsr that gets to the point! Nice TLDR and excellent info post-TLDR. Thank-you. A lot of other tubers should followed your lead…
Glad you liked it.
Yep no added stories that waste our time
Couldn't agree more, looking forward to learn more!

Thanks a lot man. Comments like these encourage me to put more effort into what I do 😊
Great video you made it easy to understand as I only have my laser a week and still learning the basics 👍
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am a beginner and don’t know much about the laser.
This is an outstanding video! It's clear, well organized, informative, nicely produced technically, and keeps a nice pace. This is SO very much better than the typical rambling videos I've suffered through from other presenters.
Wow, Thank youuu!!!! Will try to maintain this...
Opening up with a TLDR earned my sub. Perfectly produced tutorial/instruction. Thank you Mellowpine Lasers!
:D Welcome aboard!
This is a great video, no testing, just the information we need to get the job done!
That is the most helpful information I have found about engraving packed into a single video. Good job!
Glad it was helpful!

After seeing the video, my first try with the black stock and setting 500mm/90% on my 5 Watt laser turned out GREAT !!!!!

I used white automotive primer and had no problem engraving glass with my Atomstack X7 Pro diode laser & with pretty good results.
so good :D Loved it!! Super well scripted !
Super explaining about Lazer beams on engraving
Thank you :)

This is fantastic and informative. Thank you!
Glad you found that useful 😊
Great video! I was only considering a CO2 because I thought I couldn’t etch acrylic and glass on a diode. Thank you so much for this amazing review
Glad I could help!
Great stuff and you are a good teacher. Thank you!
Thank you so much. Stay subscribed for more
Nice explaining, thnx
WHat happening with the black cardboard. do you need a new sheet every time.
Yes you will need a new sheet every time but it is cheaper than other methods. The surface of the cardboard burns off, however, at times you can flip the sheet and use it.
MERCI !!thank you so much for your vidéo .It helps me a lot
Very well done with quality and information looking forward to watching more.
Thank you. More quality content coming your way soon....
Absolutely amazing and detailed video! Thank you for all the effort you put into it 👍
Excellent guide! Great job !
Thank You. Glad you liked the video. 😊
Thanks for this! My technique for etching glass is to not use the laser at all... I use the same 3018 CNC, but with a drag knife attachment instead of the diode laser. I cut a mask into sticky vinyl, transfer to the glass and use Armour Etch to mark the glass. Armour Etch is a paste that you spread on glass, and it will etch it in a few minutes. One of the advantages of this technique is that you can etch curved surfaces without a rotary attachment - but of course the downsides are that it's more steps and requires a different tool. I will try your technique if I'm ever etching onto a flat surface!
Try engraving with a laser, its easy and you can engrave complex designs. Which 3018 CNC are you using?
@@MellowpineLasers My 3018 came today, has a 2.5W, but for the price it is a bargain for a beginner. Will halve your 5W speeds and see what happens.
Loved the video. Thank you for all the research and posting the results. You're awesome!
Very informative and exceptionally well put together
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Great video, it was truly appreciated. Please do continue to make them!
Thank you! Will do!
Great video, well presented and all factual, no gap filling. Much appreciated 👍🏻
@PEGASUS ONE Thank you so much for the appreciation, means a lot.
This was a very informative, straightforward video. Thanks so much for doing this.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent job you are amazing for sharing this. Can you make a video on what laser to by fir someone wants to start you seem to get to the most valuable information. Thank you.
Thank you. I will make one as soon as I collect all the latest info.
Wow nice work. Sub’d. I hope to see some 10min videos in-depth of best practices for some of these projects
That was a great video brother! Learned a lot since I’m just starting out! Thank you & keep up the great work!💪🏼
Glad it was helpful. Stay subscribed for more awesome content.
Nice video very clear explanation !!!! Thanks a lot.
Glad I could help
have you ever tried lazering Obsidian disks? if you havent could u try it ? and if you have what was the best method u found for them?
