Glad you put this out there. Trying to convince my customer that the intake has to come off, when he swears it'll wiggle right out the front. Your video proved me right!
Did you end up removing and respraying your valve covers? The paint on mine is looking quite sad around the bolts where I’ve had oxidization. I didn’t realize that was an option without removing the engine. Bonus question: do you have torque specs for re-tightening?
I haven't done it yet, but I'm about to. There is a video on my channel about how to do the wrinkle coat. Bonus answer, I don't have the torque settings, but most valve covers into ally blocks are light, only 10-12Nm
Thank you for the Video, Question regarding the failed alternator due to the loose battery connections as I think my car is suffering something similar. My symptoms where car battery would be randomly flat every couple of months and then increased in frequency to every couple of days until finally car wont start at all. I can now jump start the car, but as soon as I turn off car it will not restart unless jumped. I've replaced the battery a number of times, Same issue. Did you experience something similar?
You can buy an amp clamp relatively cheap and verify that the battery is charging if you need to know for sure. Usually just putting a voltmeter across the battery is enough to tell you if it's charging. It does sound like a bad alternator though.
@@jd3nn1sIf the clamps are reusable they're fine to reuse, otherwise any hose clamp is fine. The rubber hose and the barb does most of the work keeping the intake sealed.
Hi there , thank You for Your vid, I'd like to ask why. You took the alternator away? I have a quattroporte 2008 but having issue with HIGH VOLTAGE ... people of forums told me the alternator with inside voltage regulator most be the trouble and need to be replaced... What was Your issue? Greetings from Italy , Ciao
Hi, Yes " spikling is the right word , but mine dont goes so high as 50 .. but 17/18 V , when it lower down to 12.5/13.4 the shift light stay on and shifting is NO POSSIBLE, ( if I turn off the engine and restart after ancouple of min, I can shift again untill it happen again 😢 I think it almost same ws Your trouble You tell. So replacing the alternator is the fix?
@@ShiftMotoring nice, I find out that the voltage is al the time @ 13.4, then the Spikling 17.8 V. Then all light on dash " battery * for a caouple of sec* , steering light, shift lights. Then all lights goes Off , except Shift light, and I discovered that the voltage was as low as 11.5 , up and down 12, 11.3. ecc. I also tryied after , shut the engine, turn the key in on position and let stay that way without starting the engine, I sow that the voltage from 12.2 lovered to 12, 11.8, 11.4,..... in a verynshort time 11.V. so also tge battery goes down quite fast ( dont You think? ) , I'll wait 1/2 minutes and the tyiedtonstart thenengin wich started right away, no problem to start, but a coulle of lights wheren staying on , on dashboard, parking roubd light, steering, engine light, , I shut the engine off again , waited 1 min. Very strange this all , I thinknthe complete AJTERNATOR NEED TO BE REPLACED, ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WITH A WARM ENGINE ( normal run temperature ) , when the engine was cold before reaching the normal run temperature , THE VOLTAGE STOOD STABILIZED AT 13.2V. No spikling yet! NO LIGHTS ON on DASH , SO EVERYTHING HAPPEN WHEN THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE REACH THE 80 C. .
Hi, do you by any chance know what the engine measurements are? length width height? I have this crazy idea of getting one and put it into my alfa romeo 159
I have a spare engine on a stand, an upcoming video is 3D scanning that (and a bunch of other stuff). Some of the models I'll make available, that will be one of them. Keep your eye out on the channel and I'll have the answer for you then!
I have a 2007 maserati quattroporte gt sport and the antifreeze and the oil mixed and spilled. Other than the head gaskets, what could be the cause of both of them mixing
say i am about to do this job and the maser boys qoutes $75 for inlet gaskets and said there are 8 of them for F sake, did you replace them they are rubber
You should replace the gaskets, I didn't in this video because I'll be taking the cover off again soon and just needed a working alternator to move the car. The PN is 219459, you need two of them and they're about $15 each.
It’s quite a big job isn’t it. Not so much the job itself but getting to it. I’ve been doing lots of stuff on my 06 Maserati Quattroporte ruclips.net/p/PLWC-gHwz2RLeSRcxuVnAVRDDyrqJQmnHk
It's probably the easiest alternator I've done! Everything was easy to access and the whole job was pretty straight forward. I've seen some of your videos in my suggested list!

I struggled to get the thing off when it had nothing in the way!
Like the approach reminds me of myself - great video thank you
Another great video man! Would love to see the video on doing the gaskets and vacuum lines👍
I'm filming that now, pulling the whole engine bay apart and cleaning it up!
@@ShiftMotoringfantastic man! Cant wait to watch that!!
hmmm hope my alternator doesn't go think maserati missed on having to remove the entire engine but we must thank them for being so considerate
Can you show where to check for the potentially loose connection on the firewall?
You'll see the connection as a big red cable on the LHS of the fire wall. That is the connection that caught fire on Tavarish's car in in Car Trek!

Did you replace the clamp between the throttle body and the sleeve? If so what with?
No, I reused it
Gotcha - how about the front right air hose (brake booster?) that is also ear clamped?
