These stories are funny but it's sad at the same time. This attitude led him to be forgotten as a football player while he was a huge talent with exceptional physics...
It happens all the time and is not limited to sports. I wonder how Mario even made it this far with such a weak work ethic. He must have enough determination, but no ethics developed.
I have heard this kinds of stories many times where 1 person is very talented and have unnatural innate abilities, but just because of indisciplin-ness, or some other chronic-like problem they loss themself on their way for the bad. Majority of the these lost people have bad habits and their "IDGAF" attitude is a major setback.
There was this dude, IDK his name right now, pretty popular, he is considered to be the most intelligent person ever born in this planet which was known. He did finished some schooling and all that academic stuff, but he never contributed anything towards the field of work (science, maths etc) and thus is forgotten (like I do right now 😅). I will edit his name here after a bit of searching.
*EDIT:* William James Sidis is his name.
On the other hand, we have got people like Terence Tao, who are considered to be mega genius and also have their achievements to not only backup the claim, but to also proof they are as hardworking as the next person. In football we have such peoples too, popular ones are Leonel Messi and Cristian Ronaldo. Who not only have above average talent, but also have got the discipline and ethic that's constantly needed and now we are here.
It's not sad because he doesn't care. He wanted money, he got it. That's it.

This and other episodes like this are the things that prevented him from becoming one of the best 5-10 players in the world of his generation and relegated his career after Internazionale to a mediocre one in second line European teams and now in recently promoted in serie A Brescia, a team that has always mingled up and down from Serie A, B and C and never won any significant trophy of sorts.
The man was truly gifted both physically and technically since age 17 (was drafted into Inter directly from amateur juvenile Lumezzane) and wasted most of it by reasoning like an asshole and behaving even worst.
He intentionally decided to go and play for Brescia, he wants to help his little town where he grew up to survive in Seria A
Similarly to Naingolan he left Inter for Cagliari because his wife is very sick and she has to remain in Sicily with the family
People need to understand that not everybody wants to be the best. Some people just want to enjoy life and make enough money off football so that they can live off a satisfied life. If everything was about competing and winning, we would not have entertaining players like Ronnie or Ney.
