haha, can you imagine I had this feeling as a teenager when I discovered him, I thought where is he? Oh, he's been dead for more than half a century ;)))
Absolutely. I was only 5 when he passed away. My sister was 15. I still remember her sobbing a long time when he passed. She loved opera, esp. Mario. Since then I watched many of his movies and fell in love with his voice and acting. He was a very special singer who passed too soon. ❤️🎶❤️🎶

The Great Caruso was the all time favorite movie ever. MARIO LANZA had such a presence on the big screen, so memorizing and that beautiful tenor voice, stunning. He will always be the best singers ever lived.

I am 86 and still in love with Mario. The best singer ever. No opera singer or any other singer has come close. He was so handsome as well. So sad he died so young.
As much as I love many other tenors in opera, Mario's singing always brings tears to my eyes. His singing is so deep, so sincere and open-hearted and so physically perfect that I can only imagine what more heavenly songs he would have been able to produce if he had lived a full life span. He is without compare even after all this time. Bravo, Mario!!!
The most wonderful tenor voice I ever heard, he was simultaneasly very handsome beautiful man plus an exceptionel tenor. He had both superior qualities which lasted for the last 100 years and will continue to belong to him alone for the many hundred years to come. Thank you for the marvelous video.

The first time I heard Mario Lanza was in the film "The Student Prince" Edmond Purden took over the role. But the voice was Mario's. I was only 18 at the time, I am now 82. There have been many great tenors down through the ages, but none can compare to the romance in the voice. I am still hooked on that wonderful romantic voice.
I was also thirteen when I saw The Great Caruso for the first time. I fell in love with Mario Lanza and opera then. I have all his films and watch them again and again. Thank you for posting this great video.
Very thanks for this wonderful Celebration of the great tenor Mario Lanza. Since I am 11 years old is Mario my favorite singer. Now, I am 63 the love to him is bigger. I thank for all the wonderful moments in my life of his music.
I was on a bus going home whenI saw on a placard that he had died, I couldn’t believe it, my favourite opera singer was gone, thankfully we can still listen to his great voice. I think he neglected his health.
The greatest without a doubt, such conviction. Melts my heart. No one could hold so many notes in one breath..simply outstanding. Heaven is a lucky place ❤
What makes a singer the greatest. Many singers have their following when alive but the crunch comes when they are gone. This where Mario comes into his own as the greatest of them all as he is still going strong after more than sixty years and from eight years old have loved him no one bar no one holds a candle to him.
I was 15 when first knew there was someone called Mario Lanza. My introduction to a vastly different genre of music. Because of "The First Time" I began listening to a broader selection of music beyond the Rock n Roll of the 50's at that time. I'm 79 now and Mario's voice still stirs me - he did have such a marvelous voice.
Thank you for these beautiful musical stories with Mario Lanza, I became extremely enchanted with him so many years ago, I was but a child. Thank you so much for sharing.
The most beautiful song, Because your Mine. Mario was the greatest, most handsome , actor ever. Never tire of his music and movies. He has never sang any song I haven’t loved. Thanks to all who are responsible for giving us his absolutely beautiful music.
Wonderful celebration of Mario and his awesome gifts.I know a lot of opera purists wish he had concentrated his career on the opera stage, but thanks to his movie career, we have these divine performances captured forever.
Thanks Vincent, Mario's natural beautiful singing voice was a masterpiece, a priceless work of art! Till this day, and far beyond unequaled! And, no art form compares to a great voice! No, singers death was ever a greater loss to mankind! Compare tenors all you want, but there has never been a man who could sing both contemporary ( Be My Love, a great example ) and opera like LANZA, he was magnificent! Like one of your viewers said, he sang with a higher consciouness then anyone else! FC
100% agree with you ,he was easily the best male Opera singer ,and the only one that sang contemporary songs well ,all the the others sounded terrible when they tried
Thank you very much for this video! My beloved mother loved Mario so much but she passed some month ago. 28th January is her birthday, this would be the perfect gift for her. I hope she and Mario met in Heaven.
Way back in !962 when I was six years old my dad`s best friend emigrated from Belfast to Australia .Just before he left he gave us his Webcor record player and his precious collection of discs. In this treasure we found Frank Sinatra, Bill Haley, Lonnie Donegan ,Perry Como, John Maccormack ,etc, and a couple of Mario Lanza`s. Being that age I loved Frank in "The French Foreign Legion" but jumping around one day I smashed many of the others .Fortunately Mario survived and "Guardian Angels" became one of my all time favourites. This began my lifetime love of great tenors ! 1921 A great vintage --- Franco Corelli , Pippo Di Stefano and Mario Lanza !!!!
Absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you for this beautiful compilation of the greatest voice in the history of humankind. There will never be another Mario Lanza.
The best TENOR in all generations. My mother, when I was still in my elementary school in the late 50's, used to make me join her in watching Mr. Lanza's movies. I can hear her words of praise for this MAN while we're both focused on him in the silver screen. She finds his voice incredible esp.of gospel arias and she swoons for his handsomeness. And when I grew up, I started to like his music and his incomparable unique high vocal chords!!!
Thank you Vincent a very befitting tribute to the greatest tenor of all time he sings with such passion and emotion his legacy will live on absolutely love Mario Lanza
Lanza' s singing with every year is being percieved more and more enchanting. I bet, that if human population will survive another thousand years, voice of Mario will be the best thing which survived . If people will travel to stars, Mario' s voice will be always with them. It will represent the best of what Earth has.
When I listen to Mario Lanza, it takes me back to my early teens. I had a brother-in-law who first introduced me to Mario’s beautiful and magnificent voice. I never get tired of listening to him. I put him first in my line of music which includes, Caruso, Pavarotti, Caleja (?) and a few others. I love him and I am sure he is entertaining Jesus and all who are in heaven with him.

The "GREATEST" but also the "SWEETEST" in Italian DOLCISSIMO!!!!!!!!! I listen to him every day Love him so so much He will always be alive in my heart❤
A fantastic tribute! I've loved his voice ever since I was a child and was first told by my mother that I better not move from the tv until after The Great Caruso was over...a requirement I'm grateful for to this very day, long passed 55 years later! There's a wonderful mural of him in my hometown, and his, Philadelphia, PA.
Mario Lanza was so far advance beyond his time he was the most brilliant yet humble opera star that ever walked the face of this earth and people should be humbled and honored that they allow our allowed to listen to his genius he cared about everyone not himself he loved his family loved his daughter and his wife and he shared this gift most people think opera singers are arrogant some of them maybe but not him he was humble he was uncertain about himself but his wife totally devoted to him and his daughter and they assisted him to get over his insecurities he’s brilliant and you should consider yourself lucky to be and listen to his work
Like so many others, I have been a fan since I first heard his voice as a young girl. He has always been one of my favorites. I am almost 65 and still get goosebumps listening to him sing. He's left a legacy that will endure for future generations. Thank you for posting.
Bravo, a superb tribute to the world's greatest Hollywood tenor, who most certainly would have made it to the Met, if he did not pursue the Hollywood route. In a way Hollywood made him and destroyed him. In a way, his movies made him and opera accessible to the world. The Met could not do that, as evidenced by a contemporary of his, also born in 1921- Franco Corelli. Mario Lanza influenced such greats as Pavarotti and Carreras. I went to Jose Carreras Tribute to Mario Lanza at Radio City Music Hall and left with the affirmation of how the Opera World wronged Mario Lanza by failing to acknowledge his greatness. Thank you Vincent Di Placido for this wonderful tribute. My favorite part is the duet from Madame Butterfly scene from Toast of New Orleans. How magnificent Mario Lanza looked in that Navy uniform! My favorite movie was The Great Caruso which showcased Lanza's extraordinary voice. Even Enrico Caruso's son said that no one could play the part of his father except Mario Lanza. That in and of itself is the greatest tribute of all!
What an amazing collection of Mario Lanza his beautiful music. Very well done Vincent. I was a teenager when he passed on at a very young age. My whole family went into mourning. I still often listen to his beautiful music. Thanks for this fantastic compilation.
I don't think any other tenor - even Caruso, Gigli, Björling or Bergonzi - came close to this guy. Apart from astonishing breath control, he had another wonderful characteristic, both of which also seem to have been inherited by the little Dutch soprano, Amira Willighagen, and which I've never seen in anyone else - they simply open their mouths and a torrent of incredible power and beauty floods out, apparently without any effort, often bringing audiences to tears.
Thank you Vincent for this celebration. From the first time I heard him in the early 50's I was a fan. Oct. 59 was a sad day: I heard the sad news on AFN Radio at a military Base in Wiesbaden, Germany. In this selection he portrayed a convincing Othello.
Absolutely a pleasure to listen to Mario Lanza -- bringing memories of my growing up in the 1950's, and my parents in the 1940's. Thank you for sharing!!
What a tribute this is Vince, indeed stunning. Well done sir and thank you very much. His voice lives on! He touched the lives of so many then, yet, so many more today - thank you Mario. You were and remain such a Star! RIP.
What a great tribute, really marvelous! I am so grateful for the gift of Mario Lanza and his great voice throughout my 72 years of life. I cried during this whole video, it brought many memories and heartfelt emotions. I regard him as possessing the most beautiful voice of all.
There is one more, sang soo effortlessly was Luciano Pavarotti. But Mario Lanza was first, They will live hundreds of years from now through their voices.
Vincent Di Placido thank you so very much for your exquisite tribute to Mario Lanza, truly exceptional, bless you.... Mario is the world's greatest tenor and I have loved him since I was three years old, thanks to my Daddy's love for this man's beautiful voice and music.... As we remember Mario Lanza he will never die and we his adoring fans will see to that.... REST IN ETERNAL PEACE MARIO LANZA
What a wonderful tribute to the greatest tenor that ever lived. I have been watching his movies and playing his music practically non-stop. I wish he would have made more movies. What a beautiful man with a matching voice. May he Rest In Peace. Love always.
There is a chain. Enrico Caruso inspired Mario Lanza. Mario Lanza inspired Luciano Pavarotti. We have been privileged to hear all three even if only through recordings. A voice like theirs comes along every 50 years. We await the next. Well done Vincent...a fitting tribute.
Mario Lanza was an outstanding operatic tenor who brought classical music to the masses for less than 20 years, but left a legacy of Beautiful music to last for a very long time.❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️💖✝️
*No one could match Mario Lanza for sheer emotional power of delivery. The man really felt deep inside every note that ever came out of him, and, perhaps, this great sensitivity and emotional range came at a price ! The man was sensitive and so emotionally driven that it became his downfall. How is it that the thing you love so much has the power to kill you ?*
I have just came across this video now and never seen it before, it is absolutely beautiful, I've always loved Mario Lanza and always will, nobody in this world will ever sing as he did in my opinion. He blessed us all on Earth with his singing and now he sings in Heavens choir. 🤗💕.
I fell in love with Mario Lanzas voice when I saw him in The Great Caruso. You keep his memory alive and also the wonderful catalogue of his work. Well done and thank you. No ones voice compares with his.

Lovely Vince. A wonderful tribute to Mario. It's hard to fathom one-hundred years. He is certainly responsible for my pursuing a career in music. When I first heard his voice ("Serenade" from the STUDENT PRINCE) at thirteen years of age, I would never have imagined that, seven years later, I would be living in New York and studying with the man who conducted that magnificent performance.
The small clip of Mario singing Otello. We can onlyimagine his singing the complete opera. Espexcially after Otello kills Desdemona and realizes she was innocent.
The most handsome opera singer and with the most beautiful voice in the history of recorded music! Nobody has matched his intensity, his passion, and gorgeous voice, and I doubt anyone ever will. He has been my lifelong hero.
Mario Lanza will always, forever be the very finest then, now ever to be.Quality, passion all totally in one very handsome man. The likes of him could never be duplicated.
A Caruso? A Domingo?

He will always be alive in my heart❤
Most handsome man ever with the most beautiful voice, Mario Lanza. I love him. He will always be he greatest voice ever.
Well done, Vincent! Mario Lanza certainly deserves a centenary celebration.
Thank you Vincent for this celebration. From the first time I heard him in the early 50's I was a fan. Oct. 59 was a sad day: I heard the sad news on AFN Radio at a military Base in Wiesbaden, Germany.
In this selection he portrayed a convincing Othello.
lanza, always, for ever !!! thank you

You mentioned greats of their time. . .listen to the young Jonathan Antoine, your heart will fly. . .
If we’re talking American tenors the line goes Mario lanza inspired frank tenaglia. Frank tenaglia inspired me.
There's Andrea Bocelli.
And don't forget Placido Domingo, who was also inspired by Mario to sing
Thank you Unforgetable singer
UNREAL what a voice ...he melts my heart
Thank you for bringing back lovely memories and the brilliant voice of Mario Lanza he will always be my favorite tenor thank you you tube

One of a kind!!!!!there will never be another Mario Lanza♥️♥️♥️♥️
Mario Lanza was an outstanding operatic tenor who brought classical music to the masses for less than 20 years, but left a legacy of Beautiful music to last for a very long time.❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️💖✝️
Very, very, very beautiful!!! A just homage to the best ever!!! Thank you very much for such marvelous compilation. Regards from Brazil
You are right. No one's voice compares with his. I wonder who played Iago in that perfofmance.0p
His voice was so unique for Opera. Most Opera singers all sound alike. He sounds so distinct.
Hi mario lanza was a great tenor what a voice he had and I loved all of his pictures he made great ones. he is one in a million. and a handsom gentleman and he done a lot of films with katherine grayson so lovely 💗💗💗💗♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
The greatest singing voice I have ever heard! Forever my hero in classical music! 🙏
Would we ever have recovered from that Otello's realization? Oh, so here it is. The last scene of Otello. Just overwhelming.
Lucky you, to be able to pursue your dreams. I hope you succeed.
Happy birthday
I have heard most tenors in my eighty odd years some wonderful voices , but none came anywhere near his, The Very Best, Thank You Mario, Ray Alston
