I had these in deluxes, but upgraded to the omni. Afterwards I regret that decision actually. The deluxes was nice and easy to read, but the omni is to thick IMO, around 1000 pages is enough for an omni to be readable. Only upside is that the omni takes less space. IMO the art is not good enough to buy the absolutes even if it's one of my GOATs, if I had unlimited money that would be an option though ;)
Fantastic overview, Omar! Regarding the compendium: For DMZ it took 1,5 years from Volume 1 to 2. Therefore it's not out of the question DC will announce a second volume for Y very soon. Until they do, we also wouldn't recommend relying on the format. Add to that that the 5 thick paperbacks are 100$ retail combined and the compendiums would add up to 120$, both having softcover and the same trim size.

Ok, you just officially freaked me out Omar! About a week ago I finally got round to ordering volume 3 of the Absolute edition, absolute is my favourite format. I had finished reading the 2nd volume, finally, had it for a couple of years and not got round to reading it but eventually I did so decided it was time to get volume 3. I have been waiting every day since to get the notification that it had been dispatched. Today I got 2 notifications in the space of about 5 seconds, one was the dispatch notification and the other was the notification from RUclips for this video! Coincidence or Jedi mind tricks from you Omar? That is the question! lol

Brian K. Vaughan is the best science fiction author of this millenium, bar none. Y and Saga and Runaways and Paper Girls. I wish Hugo voters would wake up and recognize.

I've got the five thick trades for this series and that's good for me. I like the series a lot, but I don't love the art enough to get it in oversized format (or Absolute editions). Those Absolute Editions do look very nice tho.
I have it in the 5 collected paperbacks (deluxe). Absolute editions don't quite work when you're chucking them in a bag for a trip away. Or if you're just sitting on the loo

I’ve never really understood the omnibus thing. I have a few, but they’re so unwieldy. And a number of mine now have pretty awful page sag (Kill or Be Killed looks warped, because it’s stretched so much). As for the story, bar some slightly iffy male gaze issues, I thought it worked pretty well and sustained itself for the entire run. This wasn’t a series that overstayed its welcome, despite there being 60 issues. Well worth checking out, I’d say.

Was looking at those absolutes but they seem to be cancelled and compendiums coming instead? Any word on new stock of Transmetropolitan absolutes?

Based on past behavior, once DC prints the thick paperback version of the Deluxe edition, they stop publishing the deluxe version. If the FX series does well, they may change their behavior for this series.
This is my favourite series ever although I do wonder that if it was made now how it would incorporate trans issues because from my memory that wasn’t touched upon

Idk, BKV usually has interesting ideas in his comics but the exectuion or the ending doesn't always deliver. As it is the case with YtLM. Omnibus is more than enough.. Btw Omar I'm still waiting for that video of which mangas deserve the same Berserk Deluxe 3in1 treatment... :)

Reading this story in high school honestly changed my life. I highly recommend this series.
Y is my favorite story of all time!! Definitely want to upgrade to absolutes on this one. Get us a reprint, Omar!!

It's one of the few comics I've read digitally and loved it! So, I bought the Omnibus.
I would choose the Omnibus. I like the pages more glossy and all in one giant book :)

I'd say Absolutes. But the paper quality isn't glossy. But if you don't mind it, then Absolutes are the way to go.

For those who prefer trades, the 5 hardcovers are also available in trades. It's easier to collect (and to read) than the 10 original trades.
Loved this series when were published. I even remember Shia LaBeouf was seriously considered to play Yorick in live-action adaptations.

I plan to get the omni eventually. Just so many omnis to buy right now which is awesome because back then, almost all the omnis I wanted were OOP lol.
They knew right away how many issues are gonna be, Vaughan pitched it as a 60 issues series.

There's a compendium now as well but only Volume 1 has been released so far.

Missed out on some deluxe editions so I bought the omnibus. It’s too thick. Should have been cut in half got two. I may do that myself actually.
