Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey as The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, Two-Face and The Riddler respectively (they would return in Batman's mind as a result of the Scarecrow's fear toxins).
During the filming of Batman & Robin, Warner Bros. was impressed with the dailies. This prompted them to immediately hire Joel Schumacher to return as director for a fifth film, but writer Akiva Goldsman, who worked on Batman Forever and Batman & Robin with Schumacher, turned down the chance to write the script. In late 1996, Warner Bros. and Schumacher hired Mark Protosevich to write the script for a fifth Batman film. A projected mid-1999 release date was announced. Titled Batman Unchained, Protosevich's script had the Scarecrow as the main villain and it would bring back the franchise in a more serious and darker direction, unlike the previous two films.

Wow,this would have been a great movie! This is basically the masterpiece Batman PC game Batman Arkham Asylum in a movie! It's Batman Unchained...the movie Joel Schumacher wanted to make in 1998.

Abraham Munzar Funny enough I thought of Batman Unchained to end With Batman getting killed The Same way he killed Joker in the film by Harley Quinn in the same location with Batman Falling the Same way and not only Breaking Every Bone In his Body But also to lose all of his Teeth in His Mouth and Blood Coming out of His Body
I always thought Ra’s Al Ghul & Scarecrow were always meant to be the next villains after “Batman & Robin” before the series got rebooted with “Batman Begins”. Harley Quinn would’ve been added as a plot device to avenge Joker from Batman 1989 therefore teams with the main villains, Scarecrow and Ra’s Al Ghul and the League of shadows to take over Gotham.

a combination of different horrors from the late 80s, and the series gotham who now has the scarecrow on there some great footage

Scarecrow then reveals he was working with a higher power the whole time, a man who would help him exploit Gotham and who would help Harley Quinn avenge Joker, “The Demon’s Head” Ra’s Al Ghul! The TRUE evil mastermind of the film, just like Begins! Ra’s hires both Harley & Scarecrow to do his bidding, while he tears down Gotham city through fear, thus attempts to end the cape crusaders, Batman, Robin, & even Batgirl!
Plus Ra’s threatens to bring Bruce’s most traumatizing enemy who killed his parents back to life to terrorize his mind, Jack Napier/Joker! Thus Harley’s revenge plan was accomplished!

Batman Triumphant was the original “Batman Begins” until the Nolan reboot started...
I always wonder what could have been...But batman begins was awesome and led to the dark Knight which is one of the best movies ever so I guess we were lucky really

This movie has everything to be great, too bad that's Warner Bros cancelled it.
Beautiful. I really wished Warner Bros went through with his and had Joel direct it, it would have been more of redemption for Warner Bros than Joel since they pretty much forced Joel to make Batman and Robin what it was. The entire story for this movie really does sound amazing. Could you imagine a Live Action scene of Batman being judged by Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Two Face and Riddler? It would be reminiscent of the Trial episode from Batman TAS
If this movie still gets made, it could finally put to rest something that always bothered me about the '89 film: Batman killing the Joker. It doesn't bother me so much anymore, but it came dangerously close to ruining my childhood image of Batman, whom I always admired. It makes sense to me that, for the rest of his life, Bruce Wayne would have Jack Napier's death on his conscience. Plus, I love the ironic idea of Batman making Harley Quinn an orphan the way her father had made the young Bruce an orphan. BATMAN FOREVER made an attempt to address Bruce's feelings of guilt, but since that was Val Kilmer rather than Michael Keaton it just didn't ring true to me.
This was meant to be directed by Burton and he said after batman and robin that he would be taking it back to its dark roots that it hadn't seen since batman returns. Also nic cage wasn't meant to play scarecrow it was meant to be Jeff goldblum hence why the batman 89 comic "echo's" doctor crane resembled Jeff goldblum

I like this. I like it a lot. It seems interesting, unlike Tim Burton's version of Batman & Robin, the only 2 that were interesting are Tim Burton's Batman Forever (Batman Continues) and this Batman Unchained. Although I thought it was called Batman Triumphant, and that Jeff Goldblum was supposed to be Scarecrow.
Another interesting casting choice for Harley Quinn in the 90's would have been Gillian Anderson, Scully from X-Files
Being a big x files fan! I always though duchovy would of been a good Harvey dent, I would of preferred to see Anderson as poison ivy
@@MRSceneITALL oh... That's a great choice! I remember reading that David Duchovny was actually a top choice for Batman in the 90s. I can't remember which movie it was... But I totally agree with you; he would have made an excellent Harvey Dent!

This movie could probably still be made with an elderly Michael Keaton. It could be something like "Batman Beyond" meets "The Dark Knight Returns" (and with a new Batman being trained like in THE MASK OF ZORRO). Nicolas Cage is still young enough to be the Scarecrow, although I'd prefer a younger actor. And if Jack Napier's daughter was, say, a young teenager when he was killed, she'd be still relatively young now. We've seen an elderly Harley on at least two occasions, so why not a middle-aged one?
In some ways, Batman Unchained is reminiscent of Arkham Asylum. I wonder if they weren't inspired by it. Even today, it would be a great movie 🎥.

Shame this didn't happen, but after the first two Schumacher movies, enough was enough. Maybe Schumacher was sincere about making a genuinely dark and scary Batman movie just like Burton had done, and was merely forced by the ever-unimaginative, pussyfooting executives of WB and McDonalds, but it still would have been better if WB just kept Burton, allowed him to do Batman 3 with Robin Williams, so that there was some darn good buildup for the Scarecrow movie.
OR WB could have just left Schumacher alone when he wanted to do a Batman Year One adaptation.
Point is, Warner Brothers are idiots XP
