- Batman Unchained could have been a wild movie.
In this episode of Forgotten Films, I take a look at the history and script behind Batman Unchained, the cancelled fifth installment of the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman anthology of the 90s. This film would have featured either George Clooney or Kurt Russell as Batman against Scarecrow and Harley Quinn. It would have also featured the "Court of Villains" scene in which Batman is put on trial by hallucinations of the villains from the previous films, including Jack Nicholson returning as the Joker.
Batman Unchained also goes by the name "Batman Triumphant" occasionally.

I grew up with Batman returns I’m surprised I was not scared by it.
Don’t forget that Tim Burton remained on “Batman Forever” as a producer.
In fact, the opening credits label it as “A Tim Burton Production.” So he was still involved, even though it was indirect.
@@darthkurland he was still involved as a producer, but I don't think he really had much of a say on anything beyond the early stages of production. I think he helped pick a director, but once Schumacher came in, I think Burton was pretty much out of the picture.
@@kedsarama at least Burton helped get Joel Schumacher started.
@@darthkurland True
Burton had as much to do with Forever as Nolan did for Man of Steel.
I actually have seen an early draft of the script for “Batman Unchained.” I’ll admit that it was very well written, but I can understand why Warner Bros was reluctant to pursue it.
Wow, how did you get a chance to read the script?
@@kedsarama I managed to find a link to it online.
@@darthkurland if you still have that link I'd love to see it! I've seen a few scripts claiming to be Batman Unchained, but as far as I know, none of them were actually real.
@@kedsarama the name on the script said Mark Petrosevich.
@@darthkurland do you know where I can find it?
I’ve always wanted Christopher Lloyd as Hugo Strange
Its hard trying to nick cage as scarecrow especially with how good Cillian Murphy played it in the future
I think Nicolas Cage would have been a VERY different Scarecrow
@@kedsarama for sure especially with his over the top acting
As the kid grew up with batman movie in 80-90's era, I hope Warner Bro can consider to make a final batman movie for tim burton-joel schumarcher era as conclusion like dark knight rises in Dark Knight Triology.
I think they're bringing Michael Keaton back for their Flash movie but I have no clue how that'll work lol.
Great vid. I did not know about this at all, but Batman Unchained sounded soooooo cool.
It could've been bad but from what is known it sounds pretty cool, lol
This movie MUST be rescued from development hell! We need to see Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer one more time as Bruce and Selina. And Adam Driver could be Dr. Crane/Scarecrow.
I love sixties Batman too! The video was really interesting! I wonder if it would have been more like Schumacher's film The Lost Boys, dark but still rather fun and a bit campy. Great video!
Thanks! I think it definitely could have been similar in tone to The Lost Boys!
Nic Cage would have been awesome as Riddler
I think Kiefer Sutherland would've been good as Scarecrow in Batman Unchained
I can picture this. His role as the scientist in Dark City is criminally underrated (as well as the movie itself which was a masterpiece).
They actually considered Kiefer Sutherland for the role of Robin in Batman '89,
but that idea was scrapped.
That would not be the last time batman would carry a bomb away from people to save them
Great video bro, congrats
Thanks!
Check out the Comic Adaptation “Batman 89” it’s on its second story “Batman 89: Echoes” Madonna is used as the base of Harley Quinn!
you got a voice for this shit bro. ive tried these video essay style videos before and i dont have the voice for it lmao. some got it some dont but you forsure do. great video
Thanks!
Batman unchained only would've worked if Keaton was Batman
And now unchained becoming a comic series
Had Tim Burton & Michael Keaton stayed for Batman Continues (before changing to Batman ♾️), Two-Face would’ve 🙄 been played by Billy Dee Williams but Riddler would’ve been played by Robin Williams, Chase Meridian would’ve been played by Renee Russo, & Robin would’ve either been played by Leonardo DiCaprio or Marlon Wayans & Scarecrow would’ve been in the movie played by Brad Dourif but @ least that Billy Dee Williams got to finally become Two-Face in The Lego Batman Movie
They should do a comic on it
Agreed
I wish the would turn cancelled movies too animated movies
....Batman Forever gets lost in the mix. Good movie.
I wish this movie had come true.
Another name on back-up for Scarecrow besides Lloyd, Goldblum and Buscemi was Brad Dourif.
Wow, didn't know about that one!
Brad Douriff debunked it in an interview and stated that Tim Burton was considering him for the role of The Joker back in the late 80's.
There was another version of batman triumphant which would've been way darker, the movie would have robin going to college and his professor is jonathan crane and the main villains were gonna be man-bat and scarecrow who wouldve been the one to turn kirk into a monster and it wouldve had a scene where a guy under the fear gas and stabs himself to death with a box cutter and it wouldve led into another series of films with the mad hatter showing up at the end for a cameo.
That was called Batman: Darknight, it would have been based on the " On Leather Wings " episode from BTAS and the villains would have been Scarecrow and Man-Bat.
Batman would have also gone back to his dark roots because of Man-Bat's murders and he would have re-established himself as a symbol of fear. At the beginning of the film, he would have been reitired since no criminal was taking him seriously after the cheerful attitude and public appearences he displayed in Batman & Robin.
Batman 3 is good
Maybe Michael Keaton? MAYBE Michael Keaton?!?!?!?
Kevin Conroy is Batman. No debate. There's few actors I hear when reading a comic, Mark Hamill for Joker, Yuri Lowenthal for Spider Man, Steve Blum for Wolverine, but no matter how perfect those actors did with those characters, none come close. Kevin Conroy is the Batman. Has been and always will be. Rest In Peace to the goat. (this was in relation to the intro of the vid)
.....Rober Pattinson sucked.
Yet Batman and Robin was WAY better than the Batman
I don't know about that
What are u smoking batman and robin was shit the batman was brilliant but a bit too long and we got a good riddler not Jim Carrey over acting and trying to be the 60 riddler frank gosin batman and robin was made just to sell toys and even Chris o Donnell says in the blue ray extras
The Batman felt like a parody of Nolan's films, race swapped characters, turned Riddler into an autistic incel wearing a " costume " similar to Scarecrow's and Battinson was an incompetent idiot who didn't know how to use his gadgets and kept injecting himself with " andrenaline " just to beat up Riddler's goons. And don't get me started on " The Joker " who looked like the late Heath Ledger coming back from the grave. RUclips fanfilms put that cinematic disgrace to shame!
@@MarkPollard-yx8qg well least Jim Carrey wasnt wearing bondage gear waiting for the safe word
@@Ultriac301 exactly that Riddler was a crybaby just because he had to live in a rundown orphanage. Battison basically was trying to be a younger version of Bale's Batman. Only good thing about the movie was Catwoman subplot and Penguin who was smarter than Gordon and Batman combined
Another name on back-up for Scarecrow besides Lloyd, Goldblum and Buscemi was Brad Dourif.
