Floating a Fire Truck

  • Using our new Trail-Eze TE801 to "float" a fire pumper truck (apparatus) that went down at an active fire scene. The truck was loaded with gear and water waiting to "move up" when it went down. The fire was at the end of a dead end, narrow, lane. We had to turn this beast of a truck and trailer around and back down to the scene with heavy congestion. For a seemingly simple task, there were a lot of obstacles. Thanks for watching and God bless. www.paypal.me/RotatorRon

      When driving something big and difficult to maneuver, I always study every inch of where I'm going with it. I do that even with the van. (since Nissan put a squirrel bladder in it instead of a proper gas tank, I have to plan for a large-ish gas station every 200mi.)

    I purchased one of those trailers, mine was a Trail King. You will love it. Out of a dozen trailers from 35ton through 75tons, that little trailer, over a ten year period out produced everything else we had dollar for dollar. It was the best transportation investment I ever made. It is really handy for delivering 200 class excavators and small dozers behind sidewalks. We also used it off road to deliver drill packages and self propelled drills into the woods shortened up. It is also the hot ticket for small asphalt milling machines. The hard rubber tires are tough on the deck. I hauled enough of them that we put wheel runs 24" wide out of 3/4 form ply and never had one go through the deck. Happy Motoring!

  • @piercedriver1
    @piercedriver1 3 года назад +36

    With 34 years in the fire service I would have drained the water tank once you got the wheels out of the dirt. A lot less stress on the recovery vehicle. The respect shown to our flag was a refreshing thing to see, great job.

    I had to smile when you mentioned walking into the "job-site" intentionally. I once walked a quarter mile along a one lane curving driveway to find out if I could turn a semi with a 44' drop-frame household trailer around in the yard. I would have been seriously jammed up if I hadn't walked in.
    I backed all that way in, around the curves, through the trees, and all. It was worth it. I loaded out the house and drove straight out to the highway with no problems.
    I wrote that first part right after your comment about walking. After watching your long trek to reach the fire truck it's obvious that you're well aware of that old adage, "when you're backing a trailer, slower is usually much quicker!" Mater had it right.. you're the bestest backer upper in the world. You did what a lot of truckers would refuse to do, and probably couldn't. You slid the axles and backed that trailer around like a boss. You are better than you think you are. Strong arming the steering is wicked, and yes, I have done that too. No power steering pump in a car I had a long time ago. Builds up the muscles really quick. God bless you all, and take care of yourself.

    That blind side was pure skill. I work for Amazon as a yard jockey and I'm in CDL school to get my class A. I passed my permit test. I just need to complete my skills test. I'm pretty confident though. My dad drove trucks for 36 years and taught me a lot. It just makes sense to me.
    As a former boy scout. That flag folding was beautiful.
    Thank you Ron for going out there and doing a difficult job for your community. Many people forget about our tow operators who clear the roads for us. Keep up the great work and stay safe sir. As always, God Bless!

    Ron, you did an amazing job backing up your truck. My father can do the same thing as he was a trucker for many years before he met my mom. My dad can job any job and it impresses me, I just hope that I can be like him once we get everything sorted out for my disability.

    That's the beauty of real people living in a real neighborhood, friendly and helpful as well as respectful to each other. I guess not all hopes are lost when you look at the MEDIA for the last months you think all is lost but now you watch Ron and how everyone around him help and chips in. Like the neighbor letting you use his property to turn around. Same way I would do it for any Trucker or anyone else for that matter who respects and is respectful of each other. I really love your videos. Been shared on Facebook too.

    As a retired firemen from Sebastopol, CA. Reminds me of a time when I had a pumper died on top of Mt. Tamalpais (an old radar Station on top of the hill) to where we had to have a tow truck bring it down from top of the Hill back to Sebastopol. Thank you for the video!!

    I was so proud of you Ron, for folding the flag proper, I remembered how to do it from my Little League Baseball days. Not to disrespect our first responders but in all honesty I thought I would see it touch the ground or balled up or just layed across the fireman's arm but you prevented that Ron, Good Job.

    On fire trucks open the lowest back compartment above the bumper. In this case the roll up w/ the "emergency dial 911" on it. The tow hooks are often at the front of that compartment. It saves space.

      I thought the same! But IIRC air brakes use air pressure to allow the wheels to roll. So if he ran out of air pressure at the worst possible time, then the brakes would stop the firetruck sooner than they would have wanted.

    As always, I feel your videos should be lesson plans to teach people respect and pride. Not to mention professionalism and honor. When you properly folded the flag, MY flag, I felt a welling up of pride that nearly choked me. YOU are the caliber of people I spent 21 years in the air force for.. Thank you for making ME proud of MY contribution!! Great intro to the new truck, super job backing it too. Am I right in assuming the "weak" because that little sound is meant to be an "alert", not meant to stop the heart of everyone within a block!! I do not doubt it can reach full volume if the operator so commands it!! Thank you and your people again for your inspiring work and ethic.
