    How well built are the new MP compared to the classic M:s, like M3? I've had the M3, M4-2, M5, M6 and M6TTL, and the older they get the better the build. The M6 for example is in my opinion overrated in build (clunky shutter) and viewfinder (bad flare resistance). Does the contemporary Leica stand up to the older MP and the classic M3 (which IMO is the best Leica of them all)? Thx.

    • @DarrylCarey
      @DarrylCarey  3 года назад +2

      The Leica MP is better built than my M6 TTL and the viewfinder is brighter, I was thinking of sending my M6 to get the MP mod to the viewfinder. Plus the MP has brass top and bottom plates

Leica is a camera for life, and people do not chase so much for novelties as with digital cameras. Beautiful photos. Arek from Poland. Best wishes.

    I have to agree with qrt171 on the Berlin. The Lady Grey is Fomapan 400, rebranded. It's such a subjective thing, when it comes to liking a film, but LadyG didn't hit the mark for me. What (other than personal need and preference) makes the MP “greater” than the M-A? Arguably, for those who don’t need a light meter, the M-A has greater value because less plastic.

    • @Edgy01
      @Edgy01 3 года назад +1

      The nice feature of the MP over the M-A is that you can leave out the battery and --viola! You have an M-A!

    • @lugentaubner6853
      @lugentaubner6853 3 года назад +1

      @@Edgy01 No, what you then have is an M-A with a cheap plastic ISO wheel in the back and a useless battery compartment in the front that makes the camera look and feel way less perfect than it could. If you don’t mind that, fine; but it is precisely why some choose the M-A over the MP. Which takes us back to my point about personal preference. Talk of “the last great film camera” is misleading here. It not only implies that the MP is “greater” than the M-A, which is questionable, but also that the M-A isn’t even among the great film cameras, which is ridiculous.

    • @jonmnelson
      @jonmnelson 3 года назад

      @@DarrylCarey Hi Darryl. I got a very nice copy on eBay from a seller in Japan. The M5 is probably the most “reasonably” priced M series, but it looks like the prices are going up on that too now. I like that it’s different from the others and enjoy shooting with it. I particularly like the shutter speed dial that hangs over the front edge of the body, making it easy to change without having to take my eye from the eyepiece. No regrets. I do have a number of other cameras (don’t we all!), all of which work very well. That’s one thing I love about film cameras - they all have the same “megapixels” and same core technology, which is about exposing film to light. It’s so easy to get caught up in gear acquisition, thinking that new camera/lens/whatever will make all the difference in the images we capture. My grandfather was an avid golfer and used to say about equipment, “It’s the fool, not the tool.” I think that applies to cameras as well.

    I came back to this video after buying a new Leica MA and a Leica MP. The leica MA oozes sheer build quality and class and the MP black paint looks plasticky. Framelines of the MA are uninterrupted by meter and is a joy to use. Seems clearer and brighter than the MP. There is dearth of good content on leica cameras and lenses on RUclips. For a while I thought you’d stepped up to it with content and images. Seems not. We do what we love anyway. This review you did was a landmark MP review though.

      @DarrylCarey  3 года назад

      Hi Richard, if you can find one at a good price I would go for an M6 TTL or M6 Classic. Another option is an M4-P which is an Canadian made Leica, which makes them cheaper than the Germany made Leica's. Being Canadian made does not make it any less than the Germeny made Leica. If you can live with the odd looking M5 you can always find them cheap. Hope this helps

    • @reddychan9819
      @reddychan9819 3 года назад

      I have a M6 TTL so I would rather suggest M6 classic instead. Once a M6 TTL got problem on light metering then it cannot be fixed. If you don't mind to have a bit more plastic inside the camera then M7 or MP is a better option. They are brighter in the viewfinder unlike the M6 or older version.
      A lot of like new old camera have already collected by us who have owned them for years, those second hand on sale are mostly overpriced with only a okayish condition. So if you do have the money I would suggest to get the MP.
