I had all three cameras in my hand. They all look beautiful, but i would always choose the black M-A. This black matte finish looks just amazing and the "no logo" undercover attitude makes it perfect.
MA for me. As stated in video… the lack matte is perfect. The lack of a light meter is more ‘old school’… nothing to distract me as I compose my shot. Great camera…( all of them are),but MA stands out for me
Great Video! I am a few months in with my new M-A Silver and loving it. Shooting completely manual with no light meter is incredibly enjoyable. I have had a few people that notice mine and ask if it was old or classic and I think the silver gives off that appeal more than the black paint.
Silver M-A is a great choice indeed. Very classic look. Black M-A is very cool cause it is so very "simple". MP is a beauty. Good thing that Leica still produces film cameras in 2023. Hope Zeiss and Voigtländer will come back to that too. They used to offer great tools some years ago.
I have loved my silver M-A since I got it in 2015. I do love the shutter sound of the (new) M6, but there’s no chance I’d replace my M-A with the new M6. I don’t think it is right that they have called it the M6. I honestly think both the MP and M-A are better than at least the old M6. I suppose the M6 has spread across the internet because it is more affordable than the MP and M-A and the MP has been also pretty idolized but the M-A not having a lightmeter may have made the M-A some kind of an underdog. I can’t understand why it has been so little talked about. For me the lack of lightmeter, the beauty of the engraved silver finish, its being less known and the new parts as well as the nicer details (e.g. the rear dial) make the M-A a no-brainer. I still hugely respect the M6 and MP, and if the M-A didn’t exist, I’d probably go for the MP Black Paint.
I agree that the M6 is spread across the internet because it is more affordable and more than likely more accessible to those looking for a Leica than the MP/M-A is.
Rock the black MP. I have black chrome digital M’s. They’re beautiful looking, as is the M-A, but similar to the reasons Josh outlayed, I got an MP because it’s black paint and something different. It’s my for life camera, so the idea that it ages nicely with brass makes that the perfect pick for me.
When I was shopping for a Leica rangefinder, I decided to buy the first M2, M6, or MP that I could find for a reasonable price. I found a classic titanium M6. For reportage, documentary, and street photography, I use the following lenses on my M6: 90mm f/2 Leitz 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss Distagon 21mm f/1.4 Leitz
I have a M6 Classic bought new in 1994 and recently added a 2nd hand 2002 M6 TTL with a MP ISO dial, probably a repair swap. Love both as I can finally have one loaded with T-Max 400 B/W film and and another one, the M6 TTL for when I use TTL flash, with colour Kodak Gold 200. Thanks for your thoughts but I won't get a new M6 as you might guess.
Nice video, definitely the MP, the new M6 is a MP in a new dress. A M6.2 would be nice. If you got an old M6, keep it and be happy. If you look Koordinieren a new one, take the MP.
Good to see Josh featured on your video here. Have had the pleasure of knowing Josh for a few years now through Leica Australia. An absolute please to learn from. He has a wealth of knowledge about all things photography and Leica. And it’s refreshing to deal with people who are equally if not more passionate about the craft we enjoy. Great video!
Same thing here, i am waiting for the MP in black. Would preffer the matt finnish if it was an option, but the gloss will do :) Silver one was on stock but i am waiting for a black one, pretty much for the reasons mentioned, i like the looks of the silver one, it is just better looking item. But as i plan to use it, the black is better, stealthier. And MP because of the light meter and it matches my initials :D
I bought 2 x M-A’s brand new from Leica Berlin and they both arrived with crazy dust on the viewfinders sent them back for a swap, 2 months later I get a replacement that was just as bad. Refunded €16k worth of an order and they didn’t even respond to my 4-5 emails complaining of the issue and asked for someone to reach out me. Leica easily has the worst service and qc on the whole spectrum of camera manufacturers that I’ve dealt with in 20yrs. Either that or never buy anything from Leica Berlin as they send out returned cameras The Japanese wouldn’t have let that happen. I heard the horror stories of the service times and the brutal customer service and still after 15yrs of waiting finally was going to buy 2 analogue bodies to keep and service over time. And they couldn’t even get them into my hands new without flaws from the get go. Absolutely ridiculous at the prices and their double sign offs in the box... And people spending 8.5k on digital M’s and having issues and having to wait for months to have it rectified - Completely unacceptable. I commented on another post on Discuss. A guy sent his 11k noctilux that was 3 months old due to sticking aperture blades… it came back with oil all over the blades and ruined… Leica denied it.
Your comment made me a little concerned. I bought my M-A in spite of your comment. My new M-A has no mechanical problems at all that I can tell - although I wish it had a self-timer and that Portra 160 film was readily available - and I love it.
Wow two months turn around for two new Leica mechanical cameras! That’s super duper fast! Considering it takes about a year from the time they are ordered in reality. Not only did you get two right away, you got two replacements in a couple months! Leica must have been working night and day 7 days a week to get that turn around to you😅
@@ofeykalakar1 Missing the point completely. Japanese manufacturers - 2 weeks turnaround. Japanese manufacturers… don’t send cameras as replacements that have already been used or signed off incorrectly.. Japanese manufacturers charge according and give 1000% better service. 2 months to get a camera replaced yet they couldn’t send 2 clean ones to someone spending 16k and fucked up the 3rd one also…. And with their arrogant attitude they didn’t care or try and fix the issue. Shows how their QC is complete dogshit and their technicians are fucking useless. 3 months to CLA a camera when a 3rd party can have it done in 2 weeks. All the money they are charging and they have the slowest technicians on the planet of any brand.
Great video! That was fun to watch. I know that Thorsten Overgaard cleans his cameras with a (very slightly) abrasive cloth to exacerbate the "brassing" of his M-series Leicas. Why would anyone want to accelerate the "aging" of their cameras? That sounds crazy to me. Does the brassing of a camera somehow increase its value on the used-camera market? Also, what are your most-used films?
Great video, you guys made me laugh but also worry. Allow me to elaborate: Title: Leica M6, M-P or M-A Scene: Three big grown up guys talking about different Leica's with a great deal of similarity. Expectation: In-depth technical comparison about three great camera's Reality: Three big guys talking 80% of the video time about color, looks and matches toward lens colors. 🏳🌈 🤔🤨 Hehehehehehe, thanks for sharing , you guys are aces !!
New M6 has had 9 people report so far about scratching film. Numerous others seeing review blogs where photos are scratched to bits. An absolute disgrace Leica are at this stage
Generally I like very much this channel but here I am sorry this video has nothing to do with photography… How a black paint thing or brassing will take better pictures… At the end film camera are mostly light boxes… Disappointed…
What did you expect the video to discuss after reading the title? This video isn’t for most, but it is for those who are contemplating between the cameras and have been wanting one for awhile. Not every video a content creator releases has to cater for you. It’s a pleasure seeing content that is perhaps niche to a target audience rather than just trying to please everyone at once.
I had all three cameras in my hand. They all look beautiful, but i would always choose the black M-A. This black matte finish looks just amazing and the "no logo" undercover attitude makes it perfect.
...just don't forget your light meter as you go undercover.
I'm surprised you guys don't like the M6 TTL with the 0.58x viewfinder since you all like shooting 28mm. Makes it easier to see the frameline.
I actually have one for sale if anyone is looking!
For a brief moment I thought you were actually gonna shoots some pictures with those cameras and 28mm lenses!
Hello. Great video, the link to Hashem channel is wrong, I get page not found

I absolutely love my MP for the black paint. All three do the same job really but it was a cosmetic thing more than anything that swayed me 😁

I love my MP. I bought mines used at Kitamura camera last month in Shinjuku. Definitely endgame for me.
How much does a used MP go for these days ? Thanks

M-A because you become more conscious of light.
Is the new M6 essentially a MP with a different winder mechanism or do they actually rebuild the old M6?
As a long term M3 user, I must vote the MP if I'm forced to buy a new Leica, would is not a situation I'd ever complain being in 😂
I have a strange feeling the script would be longer than 10min if they compared their neckstraps. 😅
Nice video,

saw you guys in MEL CBD last weekend! Enjoy!
Hey why you all taping red dot? For safety?

For me it is chrome MP for color film and chrome MA for black and white!👍😉 thank for your videos.😊
That's one way to do it. 👌

Thorsten Overlord.
What, no MD?
M2!
I love my all black M4-P,
removed the white lettering the red leitz logo and put on a M3 style transport lever.
I have a silver MP and I by far prefer silver to black
M6 or m4p

Leica M1 😜😎
M4 for me

No info about technical differences …
m-p is the digital body. mp is the film body.
My man Josh!
Black MP🎉
