    Millipede substrate should be crumbled decaying leaves, top soil, and flake soil. Without these three, your millipedes are essentially starving.

    What I dug up regarding for the sex of your millipedes:
    "Male millipedes have gonopods in place of their legs, usually on their 7th body segment from the head. The gonopods are modified legs used for transferring the spermatophore to the female. In some millipede species, the gonopods are visible, while in others they are hidden. In either case, you should be able to identify a millipede as male by examining the underside of the 7th segment.
    For species in which the male gonopods are visible, you will see two small stumps in place of a pair of legs. If the gonopods are hidden, you should notice a gap where the legs would be, as compared to any other segment on the body. In females, the 7th segment will look just like all the others, with two pairs of legs."
    I hope this helps. Beautiful vivarium, by the by!

    • @fablevenuz8097
      @fablevenuz8097 2 года назад

      @@AntScapes1 When you do get a male for your millipedes, watch them closely, and see if they're willing to breed in the actual Vivarium. Some individuals are apparently picky on what counts as perfect conditions for the act. There was one fellow who had some unwilling to breed for many months, but one day a pair happened to escape in his car (he was transporting them, that's all I remember on it), and he found them locked together mid-copulation.
      Ooh, dart frogs? That'll be a real nice build to see! Just be careful though: danger Kermit doesn't mess around.

    • @AntScapes1
      @AntScapes1  2 года назад

      @@fablevenuz8097 Hahaha wow that’s crazy! I have heard that they can be picky but I didn’t realise they can be so picky 😂
      I guess it’s getting it perfect then but you’re not wrong about them being escape artists, they’ve got out a couple times but that’s only because I’m doing maintenance in the whole room and you’re talking only a minute between chopping fruit for them and then they escape 😂
      That’s crazy though, it’s really cool too.
      Haha thank you, but I’m still researching about them a lot as it would be sweet to have a pair too, then start breeding and making a tadpole setup too and have them in stages, but we will see. These are just hopeful future plans right now 😃

    • @AntScapes1
      @AntScapes1  3 года назад +2

      Hey! The poop doesn’t really gather but everything else inside just eats it or it decomposes & feeds the plants. I haven’t really had to worry about that - the soil isn’t the only thing I feed alongside potato, fruit/veg, sugar pots & protein - the only thing I dislike is they’re eating the moss 😂 but that’a more so it stays nice looking lol! The soil would take a long time to go - plus if it does you can just add a little back in it won’t harm them 😃

      Well most of the videos I’ve seen people don’t have live plants and they also only have springtails in with their millies. You just need to make sure you’re adding enough Mulch & larger pieces of wood within the setup, I haven’t had problems with things going or being fully used up and I’ve had it 2 years now. So I’d always just say to you that you need to get a decent size enclosure and add as much as possible. Regarding the order of mulch or soil first, I’d say add your mulch in with your soil, just mix it all together with the charcoal etc..
