I love that you included the line “sometimes there just aren’t enough rocks.” That was the line that stuck out to me the most as a 23 year old single mom. Fortunately, I didn’t grow up like Jenny but I had enough experiences outside of my home to understand her. Many reactors frustrate me the same way people frustrated me when the movie was new. I’m an immediate fan of anyone who sees the flaws in Jenny but gives her compassion, knowing she was changed by her father. She didn’t reject Forrest. She rejected herself as an option for him. She didn’t think she was good enough. The fact that so many people still miss that is a tragedy.
Dear Whimsory, never apologize for crying during this incredible film. I'm more concerned with those who don't. 😊 Also, THANK YOU for your accurate analysis of Jenny. So many reactors just bash her, with no regard for the horrific abuse that she suffered for years. Oh, and Toy Story 3? Yes!! Toy Story 4? Meh....
"Sometimes there aren't enough rocks." Jenny always gave Forrest advice to run because that is how she learned to handle life. She was always running, always trying to escape her life. She wanted Forrest to move on and find someone better. Having Forrest Jr. was the one thing she could not run away from. It helped her see life in a completely different way. Forrest is a perfect example of low I.Q. but high wisdom. He has a strong moral compass and his mind was never cluttered up with emotional problems from overthinking issues. Forrest was always able to focus on what truly mattered. He taught this positivity to those around him - especially Lt. Dan & Jenny.
This is sort of my interpretation as well. Jenny, despite trying to control her life, still ultimately made bad decisions compared to Forrest who didn't fight it and went along with what life brought him. It's as if Jenny and Forrest were destined to be together, but Jenny fought against it anyway.

And Hanks is like, why don't I just hang out with the kid and just use his accent for Forrest? That's so cool. As always, I love your reaction vids, and I can't wait for the next one.
Great reaction! Had a lot of fun watching this with you. 37:36 When Jenny says, "You don't know what love is," I always felt like she was really talking to herself. @@Strider91 - Jenny never did anything to hurt Forrest. Not marrying him or being his girlfriend isn't her hurting him, especially when she knows she isn't in a position where she can give him those things. Being rejected by someone may hurt, but that's because of not getting what you want, not because of their rejection. You can't blame others for your disappointment.
Forrest running across country inspired ultra-runner Rob Pope to run across the US four times in a year (2016) to raise awareness for a few charities. And he ran the same exact route as Forest Gump. Just in case, like me, you thought it was impossible 😬
It was so sweet to watch you react to this. Absolutely we all cried too! Also, I just want to say that I appreciate your knowledge of American history. A lot of younger reactors don't pick up the references, but you got them all. You're so intelligent AND sensitive. It's what makes you a great youtuber.
This was one of the genuine and authentic reactions that I have ever seen. I love this movie so much, and I don't get tired of watching it. Thank you for doing this video. I hope you are doing well. Take care.
I've watched at least 15 reactions to Forrest Gump, and only one reactor had a critical opinion of Jenny. There is a small group of trolls who post their hate on every reaction to the movie, just to get a reaction. It's best to just ignore them.
@@Strider91 …. If you truly understood Jenny and how she was ruined by her father, you wouldn’t “hate” anything she did. Forrest never “hated” anything Jenny did. The only person she harmed was herself. There are no villlains in this story. Do you act the same way towards any other woman who doesn’t return a man’s love? Countless men and women deal with the disappointment of not having the ones they love return their love.
I like that the movie is vague on the time lapse between Forrest's reunion w/ Jenny and meeting his son relative to when Jenny tells him she's ill. If she had only contacted him because she knew she was dying, that would have been reprehensible, so I'm glad we can choose to believe she was finally stable, confident, and clear-witted enough to realize that Forrest and his son should know each other. I saw this popular movie in theaters, and all my family and friends and I were very sympathetic towards Jenny, seeing her plight as one of tragedy, soul searching, redemption, and finally bliss.
I've seen this about 100 times and parts of it still bring tears to my eyes ~every~ single time.. the main scene that does it though is when he asks Jenny about his Son - "I-is he s-smart or is he?" *puts a hand on his own chest* That just rips your guts out.. the complete self awareness he has had for his whole life that he's not like other people and despite never letting it ruin him he is instantly afraid his boy might have to suffer the same sort of ostricization he did :( :( :(
It’s never clearly explained what “mental disability” Forrest has, but he’s at least (sometimes to his detriment, other times to his benefit) AWARE of himself being “different”. To be mindful and remembering all his childhood difficulties…such a fear of passing along those traits is something that gives me concern should I ever be fortunate enough to have children. I myself was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome as a child, so this film resonated quite a bit for me growing up
I have to say young lady. It has been a honor watching your reactions for almost 3 years. You have grown alot, and im proud that my family has had the opportunity to watch you mature over the years. Keep being you. ❤ love from my family to yours
I think you nailed Jenny. I felt so bad for her. Oh, she never said they were very different people. She said they'd lived very different lives. There is a difference. They're both good people. Just different circumstances.
It's telling that when Forrest asks her to marry him, her response isn't either a yes or no, it's "you don't want to marry me." She doesn't think she's worthy.
the thing about jenny is hurt people hurt people only when she becomes a mother she learns how to give and accept love and that is why i think she changes and heals
The speech Forrest Gump gave at the Capital when he got cut off was… "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
This is one of my 2 favorite movie reaction channels. I find that your approach is really effective at keeping us as engaged in everything you say about the movie as we are in your reactions to the actual movie. Your dedication to immersing yourself in the movie so completely that you can just speak about it candidly and cut your video from what is clearly a lot of unscripted thoughts on the subject speaks to your vision and work ethic. Finding little bits where you leave in stuff you clearly second guessed in the moment (like hating the moron joke) just gives us a hint of what you do behind the scenes and I find it charming and insightful. I subscribed the first time I caught one of your videos, but I don’t remember which one it was. It’s is, however, always a nice treat when you drop a new one. I think it’s only a matter of time before you see significant results from your efforts.
I can't think of another movie that does a better job giving us emotional whiplash than this movie. Every 5 to 10 minutes they change the tone up on us.
This movie was just so perfect for you because of your detail. So many references in this movie that go over peoples heads, but because of all your efforts, they arent wasted on you.
Childhood sexual trauma is not something you really ever get over. Jenny relived it probably everyday, and she did the things to herself to dull the pain and punish her father by harming herself. She didn't realize how she affected Forest until she went to live with him, and she left because she hated herself and felt she didn't deserve him. Her son and Forest saved her from despair and gave her peace.
1) Jenny's prayer of "Make me a bird so I can fly far. Far, far Away from here." 2) Free Bird playing during the balcony. 3) The birds flying up as Forrest is walking away from her grave. = One of the most touching throughlines I've ever experienced in a film.
Something not too many people talk about but that I really enjoy is Lieutenant Dan's character journey. He goes through an entire roller coaster of grappling with one issue after the next, from grappling with his destiny not being what he though, to grappling with being a double amputee, to grappling with his life being saved by a "moron," to grappling with his faith, and he comes out better on the other end of all of these challenges. He accepts that death wasn't his destiny, he accepts that he's lost his legs, he accepts that Forrest is a good man and that he shouldn't blame him for saving his life but rather he should try to help him out, he makes peace with God and learns how to love himself and in doing so, opens himself up for loving someone else. He has an incredible transformation and my favorite moments with him for sure are when he's screaming in the storm at God and the universe to try and take him down, and when he defends Forrest when the... lady of the night with a great name calls him stupid. His journey is pretty incredible, and I'm glad you appreciate his development as well.
Well I have to say I really enjoyed your reaction hearing your take on the movie was very enjoyable. I love your quirky style it's honest and totally unique. Don't ever stop being yourself. I can't wait to check out more of your reactions.
There are so many great moments in this movie but the one I love is such a small one. It's Dorothy Harris' smile when little Forrest introduces himself. It's such a subtle moment but it speaks volumes about her character.
Wow! The depth of analisis from Whimsory is insane. You break it down until there's nothing to see here. I like an opportunity not to think at all. Love how much it moved you.
Probably the best editing I've seen of the many reactions I've watched to this...And your understanding of the characters and recognition of the historical and cultural events is outstanding!
I watch a lot of movie reactions. It is not very often that people feel sympathy for Jenny and I was happy to see that you did and understood her character. She felt so worthless as a human being that she felt undeserving of Forrests’ love. Good on you.
Wow! Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, and Forrest Gump were from the same year? What a year! Also, fantastic reaction! One of my favorites, so far! Your poor spongey little heart😂
I have cerebral palsy that put me up on my toes and balls of the feet as a kid in early 70s and wore those braces. Hated them for sure and the set worn at night were like ice if you turned in your sleep.. Three different operations until 18 that fixed the right and not the left but once those braces were off about the age they show Forrest I did the same and run a ton )
Wow...Your production is A+. I've watched 2-3 dozen reaction channels. Yours is the best by a leap. I watched all 46 minutes and really enjoyed it. Forrest Gump is my favorite movie. I am 59 so I lived through this stuff. It brings up all kinds of feelings. I cry watching movies all the time. I am a limp dishrag after watching this movie. Thank you for taking such great care of your content! The attention to detail really shows. Keep doing what you are doing. If you are looking to be noticed? This will surely happen.
Such a wonderful reaction (as usual). I was excited to see that you were doing this one. You could tell by your emotions throughout this movie, that you have such a good soul. (Yes we all cried too - still do every time.) I was happy to see the you are a fellow 'Doors' fan. Also very impressed with your amount of knowledge of the historical events. Great job. Can't wait for your next one.
Multi-millionaire shrimp tycoon, war hero, and international ping-pong celebrity starts running laps across a continent for no apparent reason.... and the news reports him as a "gardener from Alabama"
Best understanding of the Jenny character of any reactor I’ve seen so far. It’s my least favorite thing when seeing someone watch this movie. They just don’t understand Jenny. You’re the first to nail it. Good job smarty 😊
Well done, as always! I can say, without hesitation, that you are the best YT reactor...by a country mile. To call your videos, “reaction videos” is a disservice. You offer well researched and fairly in-depth analysis. I think Robert Zemeckis is among the pantheon of the great American directors as Spielberg, Coppola, Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, etc. Some of my favorite films were directed by Zemeckis, including “Castaway”.
Fantasic reaction. Everyone needs a good cry during this one. I've probably seen it 30 times and still tear up throughout. My favorite funniest moment was when he caught 5 shrimp and the old man said A few more and you can make yourself a cocktail.
Watching the movie with you, your emotional responses are on par! Love the line about your sponge heart! For years I was upset with Jenny, because I thought she was selfish, but I’ve grown to understand that the way some people protect us, is to push us away. Great observations!
I've seen it dozens of times since I first saw it in theater. And I get a little misty every single time. The film 'Big Fish' has a similar impact on me, and while not as acclaimed, it is brilliant.
I absolutely love your reactions but I have to say this one is by far the best reaction to Forest Gump I've seen. Keep it up! Hugs from Greece! P.S. Yes... It's safe to say we all have cried watching this movie... Balling our eyes out more like ...
I sincerely love your analytics of the moviews. That separates your from other reactors. I love movies and know a lot of them. But I am still learning from your videos. I bow before you young lady!
Tom Hanks is one of those actors that can play just about anybody and get you to believe that you're not watching Tom Hanks he started off as a somewhat comedic actor when he was young but I believe the movie Philadelphia was his first big dramatic role and he was off and running from there . I would suggest lots of Tom Hanks movies on your channel.
I admire the fact that you actually have an outro...not only that but they have a structure and purpose. Great reaction. Thank you :) BTW: I find your manner and persona very charming and anachronistic. You seem like a character from a 90s movie called "Slackers". It was the first film done by Richard Linklater who has made many a great movie including "Dazed and Confused" which I also recommend (many first time screen appearances from big time stars)...thanks again
Forest's speech on the mall; "Sometimes when boys go to Vietnam, they come home to their Mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't come home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
1994 was a Golden year for movies with so many outstanding movies coming out that it must have been a real mission for the judges to pick the winners. If you don't cry in this movie, or at least feel a bit sad you are not watching the movie so emotions are expected. Love your style & ALWAYS waiting on the next reaction so see you then.
My favorite quote from this movie that no one mentions is "sometimes there just aren't enough rocks." I myself gave my heart to a "Jenny." in high-school.Sadly she currently lives in another state, struggling with addiction that she acquired while trying to self medicate from her childhood trauma away. She stays away to "protect" me from her. All I can do is keep living my life. We were together when we wher 19-20 ish. I'm now 52 and still feel the same about her.
Great reaction like always, this movie its one of my favourites its such a masterpiece of cinema. Every character moment or performance in this movie is incredible perfection. The story is simple but interesting, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The movie was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The author actually went to write the first draft of the flick before it went into production. Forrest was supposed to be a heavier man who sat at 242 pounds and stood at 6-foot-6. In the book, he became a wrestler, went to space and even hung out with an orangutan. And some fun-facts about thi movie, Tom Hanks’ brother did some of that running in the movie Jim Hanks, himself an actor and filmmaker, doubled for his older brother on set, including in numerous sequences featuring Forrest’s high-knee, arm-pumping run. Tom hanks daugther was in this movie in a cameo if you keep an eye out for a surly redheaded girl in the bus scene, when young Forrest can’t find a place to sit (until Jenny invites him to sit next to her). That’s Hanks’ daughter, Elizabeth. While actor Peter Dobson played a not-yet-famous Elvis Presley as a lodger in the Gump household in a brief scene with young Forrest, the voice belongs to none other than actor Kurt Russell. Why? Russell, who was uncredited in the film, had played Presley already in a 1979 biopic directed by John Carpenter titled, appropriately enough, Elvis. And if you are wondering what Gump says in those few moments of radio silence? Well, according to Tom Hanks, the full speech reads: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. Keep up the good work.
This is why this movie will always be in the top 3-5 all time favorite movies. I've probably watched this movie a couple of hundred times over the years. It never ever fails to bring me to tears. The production, directing and performances...stellar... This will be a classic as long as humanity survives. Great to see folks watching the "classics". All the very best to you and yours. Cheers.

The fact that the "life is a box of chocolates, Forest, you never know what you're gonna get" line originates with Forest's mom getting cancer in her box of chocolates, is something most don't seem to talk about. 😥
And you, Whimsory (great name ! ), get the award for the most sincere and in-depth and thoughtful and lengthy movie response ever!!!!! I subed and liked! Thank you so very much!

Short clip of Jenny in the corn field praying to become a bird, while you are talking about the character. "Let´s se if she (you) gets the Freebird connection, or I might have to make a comment." Five minutes later... "Well, she nailed it."
First off, nice job. This. Movie took me through the best three decades of my life and my age during that period of time I was 18 when London Johnson decided not to run for re-election because of Vietnam. I was 24 when Watergate happened. That was also my hippie years. I settled into a regular American citizen life during Jimmy Carter's presidency. And I got married durn Reagan's presidency and the great outbreak of the AIDS epidemic. And now i'm just a seventy six year old man that mostly lives with his memories of All those years that forest Gump encompassed. And PS, Still married to that same great woman.

I think when Jenny says, "You don't know what love is" she's projecting. She doesn't truly learn what love is until Forrest Jr. is born.
Correct. She also projected when she told Forrest "if you get in trouble, run, run away". This is how she deals with conflict.
Allegedly .... we dont know thats his kid. And we dont know if "IT" has aids ot not, including forest. Fuck jenny
Thank you @@kendonato1887

@@D-ragon-S ha. I feel ya! I have to dial it back too. But, yeah, she’s blowing away all the other reactors I love by miles.
This was one of the genuine and authentic reactions that I have ever seen. I love this movie so much, and I don't get tired of watching it. Thank you for doing this video. I hope you are doing well. Take care.
I'm so glad you understood Jenny's issues. So many people get mad at her and hate her character, not taking into account her upbringing.
I've watched at least 15 reactions to Forrest Gump, and only one reactor had a critical opinion of Jenny.
There is a small group of trolls who post their hate on every reaction to the movie, just to get a reaction. It's best to just ignore them.
We don't hate her because we don't understand her. We understand her, and hate her actions and the harm she causes. . .
@@Strider91 What is this harm she caused? I am curious
I saw this popular movie in theaters, and all my family and friends and I were very sympathetic towards Jenny, seeing her plight as one of tragedy, soul searching, redemption, and finally bliss.
i love the call back to the bar when Dan said he would be an astronaut and then his legs were made of titanium, "like the space shuttle is made of"
It's also a future reference joke about Apollo 13. They were both casted already for that movie, when this was filmed. Funny little easter egg.
Doesn't he become an astronaut in the book?
@@ghostdoomkilla Could be, I don't know, I never read the book.
you are honestly one of the only reactors I have watched who have seen Jenny's point of view. Kudos!
I've seen this about 100 times and parts of it still bring tears to my eyes ~every~ single time.. the main scene that does it though is when he asks Jenny about his Son - "I-is he s-smart or is he?" *puts a hand on his own chest*
That just rips your guts out.. the complete self awareness he has had for his whole life that he's not like other people and despite never letting it ruin him he is instantly afraid his boy might have to suffer the same sort of ostricization he did :( :( :(
Yuuuuup! Every time.
Forrest also nailed Jenny, wink.
I absolutely cried with you!😭
OMG!! Thank you so so much!! ☺️
Great reaction Whimsory.
I love your “little sponge heart” 28:46
Dear Miss Whimsory, yes I love your reactions and yes I did cry
The speech Forrest Gump gave at the Capital when he got cut off was… "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
It was the perfect PC speech. 😉
The scene where Jenny throws rocks at her old house is one of the most powerful moments in film to me.
Also when she was praying in the corn fields with Forrest.
Inspired by Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth.
@@Stogie2112 did it help her
@@mjusda4353 ... I'm not sure. What do you think?
Very symbolic
You have the most beautiful, warm and heartfelt reactions. Great outros. I'm so glad I watched you watching this.
I love your outros. I could listen to you talk for hours.
Awesome reaction as always ❤
1) Jenny's prayer of "Make me a bird so I can fly far. Far, far Away from here."
2) Free Bird playing during the balcony.
3) The birds flying up as Forrest is walking away from her grave.
= One of the most touching throughlines I've ever experienced in a film.
And the feather that Forrest catches… and then flies away.
the end with you mimicking a limp dehydrated dying horse bahahahahhaahahaah glorious!😂🤞
I'm glad you're back. Missed your reactions.
Probably the best editing I've seen of the many reactions I've watched to this...And your understanding of the characters and recognition of the historical and cultural events is outstanding!
Whimsory caught every cultural and musical reference in this movie. Highly impressed by her knowledge of the times. Bravo! 👏
I really enjoyed your breakdown at the end of the movie, it was thoughtful and thought-provoking. Keep up the good work. Subbed
I watch a lot of movie reactions. It is not very often that people feel sympathy for Jenny and I was happy to see that you did and understood her character. She felt so worthless as a human being that she felt undeserving of Forrests’ love. Good on you.
Great reaction Whimsory to a Tom hanks classic. Very enjoyable movie glad to have rewatched it with u. Big thumbs up from Ian
Another must-see Tom Hanks movie: Cast Away (2000).

That was too cute Whimsory. You're only a little hoarse 😉
Such a wonderful reaction (as usual). I was excited to see that you were doing this one. You could tell by your emotions throughout this movie, that you have such a good soul.
The world needs more people like you in it. Quickly.
That is the best movie review you have ever given. I am glad you liked the movie. It is deep! Keep the content flowing. Take care.

A bit late to the comment party, Whimsory, but once again you've shown what a natural you are at this! Fantastic, heartfelt reaction! 👍👍
I cry every time Forest asks "Is he smart".
Loved watching you watching this... Love you took the time.
I've seen it dozens of times since I first saw it in theater. And I get a little misty every single time.
The film 'Big Fish' has a similar impact on me, and while not as acclaimed, it is brilliant.
Big Fish is like a Southern Gothic fairy tale version of Forrest Gump.
I love Big Fish. It makes me cry, too!

Thank you :)
BTW: I find your manner and persona very charming and anachronistic.
My favorite quote from this movie that no one mentions is "sometimes there just aren't enough rocks."
I myself gave my heart to a "Jenny." in high-school.Sadly she currently lives in another state, struggling with addiction that she acquired while trying to self medicate from her childhood trauma away. She stays away to "protect" me from her. All I can do is keep living my life.
We were together when we wher 19-20 ish. I'm now 52 and still feel the same about her.
You’re my favorite youtube reactor-type person/alien! Also, your knowledge of classic rock is impressive for someone so young. Subscribing from NM ✌️
Wonderful Whimsory does a wonderful reaction to a very special movie. That was fun to watch! Thanks!
Hello, my favorite part is when Forest returns home from the Army. " I'm home Momma. ' said Forest. ' I know. " said Momma.
I love your videos. Your reactions and research are amazing.
When Jenny says You don't know what love is. that's her projecting from her trauma and not understanding love herself...
This is why this movie will always be in the top 3-5 all time favorite movies. I've probably watched this movie a couple of hundred times over the years. It never ever fails to bring me to tears. The production, directing and performances...stellar... This will be a classic as long as humanity survives.
