What a sweet memory. My grandmother wondered how they got the kitty to dance. We'd try & tell her it was a camera trick, but she didn't believe it. Thanks for posting this!!
I'm watching a re-run of Carson on The Tonight Show and he referenced these Cat Chow commercials. I am 50 years old, but I haven't thought of these commercials in decades.
Mary Jo Catlett, who portrayed "Pearl Gallagher," the third housekeeper in the television sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes," sort of resembles Patsy Garrett. I know I saw Patsy Garrett on TV quite a bit in the 1960s and '70s, when I was a boy and teenager. Anyway, I see from online research Patsy Garrett had recurring roles in "Nanny & the Professor" and "Room 222." So those are at least two TV series' in which I would have seen her acting. But her face just seems so familiar, like I would have seen her in more than just those two roles. I also read in her Wikipedia profile Patsy Garrett became a good friend of Elvis Presley's, endeared herself to "The King of Rock & Roll" from baking cookies for the cast & crew of the film "The Trouble with Girls" in which they both appeared, and baked Elvis his own special batch when he missed out on the cookies from having arrived later on the set. Anyway, Patsy Garrett was a happy face from happier times. And she was a perfect choice to dance with those Purina pussies. And "Chow Chow Chow!" to you, Chuck.
Purina Cat Chow CHOW CHOW CHOW ! MY one of my older sister's friends had a little one who was just learning to talk. The lady was peeved because her kid thought a cat was a 'chow chow' after watching this commercial!
I remember this ad, and several of the other Purina Cat Chow ads like it. I think they were so cute! It didn't dawn on me until years later that the Chow-Chow-Chow dance and music was actually a take-off on the Cha-Cha-Cha! Hence the Cha-Cha-Cha music in the jingle!! By the way, for years now I've been trying to track down some 1970's ads for another cat food product by Purina called Special Dinners. I think it's still sold, but it's been bought out. Does anyone remember any of those ads?
I was trying to explain this commercial to Italian coworkers who says "Ciao Ciao". It makes me remember this commercial. I showed them this commercial and they now think I am a goofy.
does anyone remember the racing kitties purina cat chow commercial?,coming out from all directions w/race car sound effects!..would love to see that one out on youtube!
was looking for a particular cat food ad when i saw this and i was like OMG shes the lady the play in the original Benji movies. Benji and for the love of benji ^^
She doesn't remind me of aunt Bee at all. Especially not the time aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) was in "Benji" (1974, which everyone in USA saw) as a neighbor lady who obsesses over her cat and fusses at Benji daily for harassing it. We discover later she sort of counts on Benji's daily intrusions and feels sad and insulted when Benji passes by one particularly busy day and totally ignores her cat. She comforts her cat, knowing it feels disappointed too.
Yes, wise and insightful thinking. *Eyeroll.* It was a fun & silly cat food ad, not Apocalypse Now. Might wanna ease off the booze & lighten up, douche.
I met Patsy in 1982. She was the absolute, most sweetest approachable woman. And, absolutely adorable. R.I.P. dear lady.

Back when likeable and regular-looking people were in commercials!
Isn't that the TRUTH!!!? nowadays everyone is just insufferable and the kind of people you want to slap
Yeah including the fake colonel sanders.
I love this commercial from 1976 it's so cute. as golden today as it was then
I could see my grandma doing this with her cat. She loved animals.
The kitchen where the lady is reminds me of Freaky Friday 1976.
I love doing the "Chow chow chow" dance on those Purina Cat Chow commercials!

The chow-chow-chow woman you see is Patsy Garrett, who starred in a few sitcoms in the early 70's and played Mary Gruber in the Benji movies.
I finally found it after 2 hours of finding it for my grandparents 1970s 50th Anniversary party!
We had a lady at our church in the 70s who looked like the Chow Chow Chow lady. I don't think she appreciated me telling her that.
1 2 3 wait for me....oh sweet memories
I always watch commercials with cats in them!
R.I.P. Patsy Garett. Chow Chow Chow!

Your Great Grandmother played Mrs. Fowler on Nanny and the Professor?
What do Italian cats say to their humans?
Ciao Ciao Ciao!

@happymlk I think they trained the cat to do it.
CHOW CHOW CHOW 😂!!!
I think this is from the 80's. And for heaven's sake, there's no way that cat could still be alive!
I see how they do that

She looks like she's been eaten some of that cat chow
We've always had cats/dogs. I tried to munch on some dry (I was pretty loaded🍺🍻). Tasted really bitter. I only ate a bowl or two....
I Doubt it.
Are you for real????
The "cat"'s dead?? I don't like the woman's odds too much either.
Patsy Garrett 1921-2015. 93 y/o.
@@maxgrubnik2517 I stand corrected.
Let me guess, you're in your 20's and live for the internet.
I don't think cats today are as talented as they used to be- why should they be any different than anybody else in the entertainment industry?
Yes, wise and insightful thinking. *Eyeroll.* It was a fun & silly cat food ad, not Apocalypse Now. Might wanna ease off the booze & lighten up, douche.
Why did youtube recommended this? What the fuck?
