      Obviously that's an exaggeration but I understood it as most fans are used to these kind of things, I remember the Belarus wolf 🐺 guy, forgot his name. I liked the song, but I can see some family members criticizing that nudity, the gayness, the devil representation and all these things I usually don't pay too much attention because I'm used to the contestants by watching multiple interviews and I know they are nice people, and that's just a song/act.
      Uff I rambled too much

    As an Australia even if we didn’t qualify and even that I wasn’t sure of it myself, I am proud of us sending someone for once who really shows our culture and is proud of it and that is what people come to ESC for 100%. It is also a genre that is genuinely very popular here and Electric Fields are very big as well and they will continue to be big after this and will probably blow up despite the result. I hope we keep sending entries like this as this is high quality and ethnic. We were just a victim of poor running order, the mixing of the backing vocals sounding really off (nothing to do with the lead vocals which were great) and the strong semi in general, which is the reason for Azerbaijan as well because both songs are so unique. Electric Fields themselves actually share this opinion which just shows how good sports they are because they’d obviously be bummed but not enough to be angry or sad which is great amd they even seemed more chill about NQing so maybe they were nervous which may have impacted their result based on the performance. I really hope that we keep sending bold, ethnic and genuine entries like this because I really like this system as an Australian, I would also be sad if this ended our history in ESC but we will likely improve next year so I am relatively optimistic about our chances of returning as our participation for next year is still up in the air.

      i really was in awe for that beautiful light and colour stage concept that integrated the audience as particles into the whole image, an astonishing picture drawn! it was so upbeat as well and i also hope you keep sending us entries like that too enjoy!!!
      i think unfortunately it really seemed to show here on them that the general audience had no chance ahead to see them perform live, so for most including me it was really the very first impression, other than the recogniction working as a factor for the voting choice. Also admittably to me the voice sounded off key more than once, and i guess the competition was too tight this semi for bigger outtakes ><
      But yes absolutely, i saw an interview clip from this morning and they took it with so much grace and good sportsmanship, and dropped these 👑👑

    • @AleksFolk1
      @AleksFolk1 3 месяца назад +2

      I think the problem ultimately was due to the video clip of the song and not being as engaging as the others were. Others had live performances, and/or video clips that elevated their songs further. Electric Fields had a very boring version of theirs and could have taken a bit of extra time to release a more engaging version that showcased heritage and culture.

    • @belli4933
      @belli4933 3 месяца назад +4

      I can answer this. Because it's not that sing along song that much, the visual are monotone and compared to the ballads of Serbia, France and Slovenia don't have that catchy chorus to hook the audience. She is amazing but she doesn't have that connection with the audience. Also the song is about her, general audience wants something to latch on, have fun or sing along or to be something that they can have the same feelings about. Not everyone thinks about your inner demons when listening to this song

      @@belli4933I bet that if the song was in english, talking about the same topic and maintaining the performance, although with different instrumentals, Grito would be like top 5/6 in the odds... the thing people don't understand are the lyrics, but even then I've seen people's reaction here on youtube and most of them understood the song without looking at the lyrics.

    The Bambie Thug staging shows that the stage doesn’t have to look “too big”. They barely moved out of an 8 foot circle and yet it never had the issue of sparseness that plagued some of the others.

    • @aekelly
      @aekelly 3 месяца назад +8

      Yes, they really knew what to do with that stage, didn't they? I remember Francesco Gabbani was so fabulous and did so well at SanRemo - we were really rooting for him to win, and then the ESC stage just swallowed him up. Bambie is brilliant - I love that they are going up in the odds. I think they may have peaked looking at who is above them now, but they should be quite proud of their accomplishments!

    A lot has changed in the choreography for Portugal. It just seems to be the same…
    For example, when the guitar starts, she moves forward with the dancers following. In the second part of the song, when we have the more interpretative dance, iolanda moves her hands like she is commanding the dancers, actually starting to defeat her demons. She moves a lot more during the song. Also, the five dancers (amazing by the way) have changed many small things throughout the performance. So, kudos to the choreographer (and dancer) who has done an excellent job!! 🇵🇹🎤❤️

    I’m an Aussie, just so you know I’m speaking about my own country. I thought Electric Fields started out really strongly, but somewhere about the time that the backing performers came on stage it all went wrong. It seems like at that time it went from feeling like a professional gig to a backyard jam session. I’m all for performers expressing themselves but the backing performers were all dressed very differently and seemed to wander about the stage. And then Zaachariah started to get a bit shouty and then shrieky. I’m still proud of them. Nerves and adrenaline must be crazy on that stage.

    Isaak slayed, and this is a SONG contest, not a staging contest. I've been annoyed by the excessive emphasis that is constantly put on the staging, we should enjoy the song and the artist just by listening, which we will all do after next Saturday. I hope Germany does really well in this edition.

    • @littleblackpistol
      @littleblackpistol 3 месяца назад +1

      But the 'song' is inseparable from the performance, and the staging supports the performance. If it's just the song and nothing else, we should just read them on paper and vote for the best lyric in round one, or have pro random singers pipe them out in round two while we mark them in an academic fashion and the whole contest dies because how boring and uninteresting THAT would be. Same for vocals. It's the whole package that counts, each thing supports the other, vocals support lyrics, lyrics lend to melody, staging lends to theme, theme is supported by lyrics and vocals, and on and on .... and beyond that, it is ALL subjective, as it is in how we personally emotionally connect to each song and performer. There is no agreed upon metric for songwriting and never will be to judge this. Even juries disagree with each other on what is good and why is is good and measure by different values. The public bote is the instinctive vote and probably more reflective.

    • @Michalis2m
      @Michalis2m 3 месяца назад +1

      I couldn’t agree more with you, the songs i like from the contest are the ones i listen to throughout the year (and the years that follow) so i am longing for good songs even if they are not performed in the best possible way on the stage. Germany’s got a decent song by a singer with such a full voice, even if it doesn’t do well it definitely doesn’t deserve last place (with all due respect i am still trying to get over Finland’s entry). Most notable unfair result of Germany for me is ‘Ghost’.

It took some skill to coordinate it I think and for everything to run smoothly. Absolutely no issues with the vocals. So happy they’re in the Final. I also liked the concept of postcards, maybe because I'm totally into Eurovision history :). Some people have said this idea being "lazy" but I don't agree with that. It was lovely and fun and I actually prefer the postcards to be rather simple, not overdone. It's just a short moment between the performances and there's no need to create a whole big story there that you have to focus on separately. In 2014 I really loved the postcards with the flags though but it was just such a brilliant idea that worked so well.
    Actually, it's interesting to predict now, which songs have been chosen for the postcards of these countries who haven't performed yet :).

    I'm so happy for arty Raiven and although I'm sad for the non-qualifiers, I think the televote picked the right songs to go through. It's really sweet that all the national languages went through. Of the NQ the one that saddens me most is Azerbaidjan but you're right the staging wasn't right, the Australian song, I didn't get "love vibes" from the singer who seemed nervous, Hera was sweet, Natalia was trying a mystical stage and it worked but the song is a bit unusual, Luna is a singer I love but her vocals weren't so good. The one that surprised me most among the qualifies was Tali with a sweet emotional face, she really conveyed the spirit of the song. Finland, if I ignore the antics of Windows, I quite liked Henri's performance. Isaak's was perfect and emotional, I felt that song meant a lot to him. Silia Kapsis was thankfully not trying to be too sexy so she gave me early girl singer vibe. Ukraine was epic and magical. Baby Lasagna was totally the show and glad he kept his animals in the graphics but he looks really unique and handsome. Bambie took my breath away with their artiness and for me the song works - respect. my least favourite performance was UK, the staging was too much, the song ok and the vocals not so perfect. The song by Sweden was performed perfectly and these twins are likeable. Teya Dora lookedechanting and Iolanda both strong and vulnerable. Last but not least; if I did love the national final performance by Silvester, I like it even more now because he looked so relaxed, smiling and yet like the coolest guy in the room. So yeah it was a fantastic show, the Swedish production team did a most amazing job. The two presenters were lovely too. Oh yes and Benjamin Ingrosso is proof that you don't have to win eurovision to become a star. Whatever the result of the contest, I discovered so many new songs this year!

Everyone seemed to be lost in the vastness of the stage and, when they were done performing, I had a sinking feeling that it was not going through. Such a pity! Of all qualifiers yesterday (ok apart from the obvious Ukraine and Croatia), Iolanda from Portugal is the one imposed herself aa a natural suoer professional singer with a clear excellent voice and an interesting not-over-the-top staging. That was brilliant.
    One of my disappointments would be Lithuania. I have always loved Luktelk. But on that huge stage, with him standing still in the middle, everything seemed static and empty, and it is really due to the heavy use of lights that they create a mood. But the performance in itself (for a song which is not difficult to sing) was really bland.
    And Ireland was mind blowing, the staging deserves an award in itself. Bambie is a very good singer (her piano version of her song was excellent) and they move with elegance.

      This is the production's fault because of the camera placements, zoom-outs, and wide camera cuts. They were simply too wide, too zoomed out. You can't have a good impression of the performance if you can't see it. For some reason, they shot practically everything but Ireland, Portugal, and Ukraine too zoomed out. Some songs can take these wide shots, some can't, but even the ones who can take it, like Luktelek, don't look good filmed from that kind of distance

    The stage is a cross shape so there is less usable space than you might think. The performers can only go East and West or North and South. The stage is slso set quite forward in the arena. The UK and Sweden set up their staging in either a box or a tunnel meaning that at least a third of the audience in the arena, including me, couldn't see what was going on most of the time in those songs. I think that was why the reaction was a bit more muted.

    Thank you so much for supporting Ukraine ❤ with best regards 🇺🇦
    I think the main message of the song is that all the divines or strong female figures in the world were first of all human beings, so it's up to the individuals how they walk their path, up to sainthood. This song is about sisterhood, female solidarity.
    Intro:
    A stream, stream, stream breaks its way,
    Whatever happens, the world is on her shoulders.
    (When Jerry start to sing about stream, the water started to flow on the scene under her feets through the rocks. Water makes its way like every human its own life).
    The pathway, pathway, pathway is rocky and winding,
    But know that your happiness is in your hands.
    (You will have testings, obstacles, difficults on your way, but remember, your happiness is in your own hands - in this moment Jerry king it over the river).
    I’m not holy, A’m alive.
    (I think it means every person is not perfect, not holy, we make mistakes).
    Chorus:
    With us are Mother Theresa and Virgin Mary,
    Barefoot, like on the blades, they've walked the Earth.
    With us Mama Teresa, Diva Maria
    All the Divas were born as a human being.
    (At this moment Jerry started to climbing the mountain, which means difficults in life, struggle. Also the visions may symbolizing phosphor bombs - struggle of our nation (Ukraine) nowadays, in particular women. "Teresa" is Mother Teresa who was revered all over the world for her humanitarian work, and "Maria" is Virgin Mary (Maria). Boht of them were human beings, but there life, and how they pass life tests were incredible and made them Divas).
    The rap part:
    We were trying to find our way since we were little, But life is like a loop for those who are falling. Even a little girl carries on her shoulders A vat full of pain, and knows that it is a fault (it's about overcoming the pressure from the society) .
    Again she's not the way she should be(expectations of other people, of society) : too soft (plus size), The clothes hang on her bones (too skinny), [looks] half-naked, or getting married (lot of clothes - too shy). "Where is your child?" "What does your life look like?" "You're not getting younger! And the end is nearing" (the idea that woman will be realized in her life only when she have husband and children).
    And if someone wants us to break down, And even if your energy is close to zero, And even if someone hides hate and envy behind a smile, [And even] when you let anger in your heart instead of kindness and love
    [Know that] there are saints in Heaven, their feet walked this Earth, That's why your walk among thorns isn't fatuous. And even if sometimes it'll be very dark, scary and hard, But your ancestors will always follow you from Heaven.
    (The shadows on the screen (female siluets) symbolize our ancestors, our mothers, grandmothers that look after us from heaven).
    In this moment Jerry and Alyona go towards each other halfway, give each other a hand that means solidarity, then turn around back to back to each other which means that they protect each other's rear. And finaly they lay on a scene where we see a lot of females - symbol of women all over the world - very different, but very unic.

    Can we talk about the fact that the first 5 countries in running order all qualified? I dont think that has happened often. Its always been talked about that its bad to be one of the first countries but yesterday proved that when you have a great song it doesnt matter when in running order you are

    Croat here, voted for Lithuania.
    I was maybe to tired while watching so i didn't love any performance. But i also didn't hate any performance.
    Finland is my least liked though.

    Thank you for your reviews and analysis. Great job!
    I am sharing my OWN, PERSONAL reviews being respectful of other's reviews and preferences.
    1. Cyprus : Silia Kapsis, Liar.- The only act that I got wrong. I had it as an NQ. Surprised when it was anounced as Q. Benefited from Greece not performing. In my opinion.- If Austria: Kaleen, We Will Rave and/or Georgia: Nutsa Buzaladze, Firefighter qualify for the Grand Final, Cyprus will not have a chance.
    2. Serbia : Teya Dora, Ramonda.- Beautiful song. Great performance.
    3. Lithuania : Silvester Belt, Luktelk.- Solid performance with thundering backing track.
    4. Ireland : Bambie Thug, Doomsday Blue.- Vocals OK. Dramatic musical theater.
    5. Ukraine : Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil, Teresa & Maria.- Excellent vocals overall. Epic performance with outstanding and memorable staging.
    6. Poland : Luna, The Tower.- Bad vocals. A hot mess. Vocals were off. Twice she laid down on the floor of the stage to be on top of the horse projected on the LEDs on the floor of the stage. Too much going on the stage and disjointed with overpowering backing track taking over the lead. I think the mix was bad. Also, the meaning of the song lost.
    7. Croatia : Baby Lasagna, Rim Tim Tagi Dim.- High energy and engaging. Vocals have improved. We might see a repeat of last years voting where juries selected Sweden with Loreen performing Tattoo; and televote selected Finland with Käärijä performing Cha Cha Cha.
    8. Iceland : Hera Björk, Scared of Heights.- Outdated and boring with minor vocal issue. I did like the backup singers on the stage.
    9. Slovenia : Raiven, Veronika.- Simple staging with impressive operatic vocal performance.
    10. Finland : Windows95man, No Rules!.- Clearly, a televote pick. For me, no musical value with pitchy vocals. We will see what the juries think.
    11. Moldova : Natalia Barbu, In the Middle.- Beautiful song and good vocal performance but too static and boring when compare with other songs.
    12. Azerbaijan : Fahree feat. Ilkin Dovlatov, Özünlə apar.- Bland, not exciting performance with static staging.
    13. Australia : Electric Fields, One Milkali (One Blood).- HORRENDOUS and atrocious vocal performance! Uninspiring staging.
    14. Portugal : Iolanda, Grito.- I was not completely convinced that it would qualify as it was a televote only selection. The vocal performance was impressive.
    15. Luxembourg : Tali, Fighter.- Good, solid performance overall.
    Q1. United Kingdom: Olly Alexander, Dizzy.- Vocals were horrible! All over the place. I am not sure if the cause was the body pack transmitter/receiver falling off. Out of control performance with too much energy and adrenaline taking over the vocals. It is going to be tougher to go against Sweeden if he struggles again with the vocals at the Grand Final. Let's just hope it will not be a repeat of Mae Muller vocal performance at Eurovision 2023.
    Q2. Germany: Isaak, Always On The Run.- Better than I expected but I do not think that it will end in the Top 10.
    Q3. Sweden: Marcus & Martinus; Unforgettable.- Good overall performance. For me, staging is a bit over the top with too much happening but it is what a pop song requires.
    The World is full of singers but only a few can sing lead live. Studio gadgets and trickery will never replace vocal ability, craft and technique. It might be fine to enhance and embellish the melody and harmonies in moderation. I also do not value or appreciate the excessive use of auto-tune and pitch correcting software which is undoubtedly used excessively in the backing track vocals and which I am sure some would like to use on live performances at Eurovision which is not permitted.
