TUTORIAL TUESDAY! This is our first, but look for many more on the way. While working out at home. This was all I had for my quads. It was too tough to clean and press the weight on my back, then squat it. So I had to do the landmine hacksquat. Great exercise!!!
Another way to set it up is by straddling the bar and using a weighted dip belt and hook up that way. There is also an attachment (maybe by Titan?) that fits over the end of your bar. Either way, you don't need to load these as heavy as regular squats, and definitely not as much as the machine hack (different mechanics).
Ha! Yeah, we're always preaching consistency, so we've got to remember to do it ourselves. 😆 Although sometimes we get carried away with the bigger videos, so we run out of time! Regarding the landmines - you can just stick the bar in a corner, but you've got to be mindful of the weight you're using so the bar doesn't dislodge. I'll usually stick to 2 45 pound plates as anything more makes it pretty unsteady when trying to get it into proper position to perform the exercise.
@@jeb5409 Either would work, you can use one leg to spot the other or do it like a pistol squat depending on strength and how much you've loaded on there
Sounds like the perfect way to get an injury that will potentially stop you training legs forever! You would have a lot of weight on 1 leg and a single knee and ankle joint, any relaxation in form would be devastating! Bodyweight Pistol Squats are INCREDIBLY difficult to do correctly.
@@davekennedy6315 It's not a bodyweight pistol squat given the fulcrum aspect unless you overload it. And clearly this is responding to the concern in the video that you can't train heavy with this, for people who are capable of doing that, not a place to start from.
Cool video they sell landmine attachments with pads for this exercise. I just got Quantum Trainer which has landmine attachment has spotters for perfect starting and also safety positions. I suspect having a 20 or 30 degree slant board would improve this as well.
great vid. I've been thinking about adding this to my home gym. Getting it up into position seems a bitt tricky, but I think getting OUT might be even trickier.
Great tutorial and explanation on landmine hack squats. Only did regular machine hack squats before, but am definitely going to be incorporating landmine hack squats and dumb hack squats into my routine for a tweak to my quad training 👍
This would be good for doing higher volume sets on due to the challenge of having to lift it up high first, or even as just a warm up for heavy barbell squats
Great vid! You think it'd be easier or harder to set the bar & weight on a bench and squat it from there? I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to do these soon so just trying to think of how to do as much weight as possible.
@2:40 what is that thing on the top of your rack? Also titan fitness makes a stand and a "linebacker squat" attachment that lets you rest the weight on both shoulders and cuts out the picking it off the ground part.
Good tutorial! If I want more quad activation, should I perform these with my face facing the bar or should I do it the way he has demonstrated? I'd appreciate if anyone answers.
Not really. Narrow and normal are same. But if you put your toes out, it will hit the tear drop alot. While super wide legs like sumo position will hit glutes and hamstring alot.
Sticking a bar in the corner is pretty easy too, but that just depends on your particular set-up. I've really been preferring these lately, but the barbell hack squats are definitely a classic.
@@BuffDudesWorkouts yeah that's true. I love this movement but I'm mainly worried of the initial lift and especially the come down after a hard set. Good stuff as always dudes!
One side asymmetry, if you go really heavy the asymmetry will not be balanced on second set when you switch sides, if you do not go heavy, it is pointless
Its a shame the weight is the heavyest at the lowest, where you are the weakest. Here the hacksquat has the same weight in all range of motion. I would prefere other exercise like sissy squat, pistol squat, glute bridge and reverse Nordic. Love the last one!
Doesn't the Landmine Squat train the quads way better than this one? The weight literally falls in front of your legs. I would love a deep explanation.
Try to place the landmine on a wall, or on a rack - 3-4 ft tall, for example - and see the difference. This is something no one is doing. Be the first to do it.
This is a good alternative in the gym. The Hack Squat machine is always being used by these 2 mexican chicks with 25s on each side while they have a one hour convo. 🙄
@@minecraftlord568 You clearly don't understand the concept. Did you see his position and feet placement? You don't stand straight up with this hack squat variation, very similar to the real hack squat machine. OBVIOUSLY pushing up and down is easier than doing so at an angle. You're actually pretty dumb. Remember to train your brain.
Absolutely pointless exercises. Anyone even remotely strong is never going to get this into position. A 315 squatter would need about 8 45s on there. Utterly pointless
I squat 330 for 10 and I was struggling to get a mere 150 lbs into position for this excercise. Definitely not safe for me to load it with anything remotely challenging without some special setup. I suspect one can also lift way more with this excercise than in a normal squat, as a lot of the load will be distributed through the bar and into the floor.
@@Ixnatifual you can either make a stand or buy one so bar is already loaded and in position...but i agree this way is not the best..thats why i built an attachment which is pretty much the same as a hack machine and extremely easy and safe...

It's not the only option if you don't have a rack and can't clean it up. You can also do regular barbell hack squats aka behind the back deadlifts.
I love how accessible this is for people without a gym. Definitely adding this to my routine.
This is so bad ass. I've never seen someone use the t-bar like this. Great channel
The landmine hack squat seems like a great alternative to the traditional squat. I'm intrigued to test it out.

This helped me a lot. Thank You!
Two Buff Dudes videos in a roll? Aww yeah 💪💪
Great video! Always thought you had to have the setup attaching the bar to the ground to do landmines

Just use one leg and you've doubled the effective weight you are moving without the challenge of getting twice as much weight into position
Good tip
What do u mean by one leg? Lean on one side or completely raise the other leg off the ground?

This exercise looks like a game changer for home workouts. Can't wait to try it out and feel the burn in my quads.
Excellent, got mine, and the barbell squat too, along with a very basic leg extension seat.. got to say.. quads finish pumped and smashed
This is a great tip, did feel my home gym needed some extra leg exercises
Wow I had never thought of this! Thanks buff dudes.

As always great video hudson and buff dudes everything explaing so simple and easy 😊💪
Put that on the list for my next workout! Thanks!

I gave this a shot, but I was struggling hard to get the weight into position long before I could add enough plates to remotely challenge my legs.
Try it with one leg, after getting it into position, of course.
Amazing tip! Thank you so much! 💖
Given the difficulty getting it into position, I think an against-the-wall barbell hack squat would be a more practical alternative.
Great idea with limit equipment. thanks

Buff dudes giving us pearls here

More buff dude live workouts!
Would you recommend the versions with you feet together with toes pointed out?
I love this one
you got all the kit mi duck
Love this. Does this variation feel better than the barbell hack squat DL?
The movement is much easier, so in that sense, yes, but it doesn't feel as challenging.
I have been doing this but where I struggle is how to put it down. Is there a tip for that?

For more quads, just do a regular landmine squat where you are facing the weights.
Nice 👍
Im worries about my kneesa in thabhack squat but thanks for the video!!
Does the placement of the legs matter? Wider VS Closer placement
Not really. Narrow and normal are same. But if you put your toes out, it will hit the tear drop alot. While super wide legs like sumo position will hit glutes and hamstring alot.
Might not be the best Advice but I use large Car jacks so the bar is higher so i can load weight and get under the bar a little easier.
thats an excellent way...i totally did not even think of using my floor stands, been using a rolling shop chair..thanks
Wouldn't the classic hack squat (behind the back deadlift) be easier to set up?

Nice hack
You guys ever use the landmine for belt squats?
One side asymmetry, if you go really heavy the asymmetry will not be balanced on second set when you switch sides, if you do not go heavy, it is pointless
Camera work is quite shotty and jumpy. A steadier shot would improve video.
Its for us adhd folks

Does anyone else get scared and lose balance at about 8 reps 😂 feel like im going to fall using the land minde attachment too

why not just hold bar at front in a double hand clasp grip?
If you can't get the proper weight loaded onto the bar, what's the point of even doing it?

Golds gym aint what it used to be
I hear ya. My case a guy using weight where he can only knockout 4 - 6 reps, racks it, then fucks off on his phone for 5 minutes between sets
Here first
Hmmmm. I wonder if a 330 lb landmine hack squat will be just as easy as a regular 330 lb squat........
330 squatter would need 500+ on this exercise. Dumb exercise.
@@minecraftlord568 No, just the opposite ...330 pound max squatter would be using 200lbs or even less to get 10 good reps...

The max that would fit with enough sleeve to shoulder is 4 plates.
Okay
Oh no.. Please don’t turn into making unnecessary pointless exercise videos like all other fitness channels.. Keep it simple as you always have done 👍
Fine for at home, shit if you do it at the gym, there's better options
