I moved to Japan a couple of months ago, and i never realised how much i love Swedish food. I sooo took it for granted!! been binge watching food videos from Sweden to make me miss it even more, this is torture!! Haha!
It is good to be away from it too, now you have a new found love for something you took for granted. Just get the most of it when visiting Sweden next time. I always ask for the basics when i go visit my parents (we live in different cities, i still live i Sweden). Just those everyday regular meatballs and mashed potatoes dishes that wasnt weekend fancy foods. Those i miss the most when not eating my parents food or my grandmas meatballs... I miss em so much.

Thanks! We are definitely glad we tried it. And they had something else on the table that tasted like a Snickerdoodle! Luckily, this was over a couple of delicious days. We spread out the goodness 😋 Happy New Year, you two!
I didnt see any shrimp salad in the video and its alarming to me cause we have something called shrimp salad and that's not a typical salad. Just beware so you dont get the wrong thing.
The lobster isnt an all year around type of seafood. You're only allowed to fish the West Coast ones from the first monday after 20 september until 1 december. Maybe they get frozen do you can eat during other time of the year but if you want fresh ones that's when to visit.
Interesting to watch your guide. Living close to Gothenburg and gonna try one or 2 places where you have been 😊 I love Husaren's huge cinnamon rolls as well❤️
Mussels, parsley, garlic and white wine sounds like my childhood. We used to just grab them out of the water but it's mostly oysters these days. The mussels are still there but they're very much the minority now. These days we use oysters for crab-fishing (even though they're more of a pain to crack) because they're so much more common. Not that the crabs are likely to care, they go up and down and are fed in the process of being caught. So they're probably good unless some dumb kid forgets the bucket in the sun before pouring them back.
*gasp* Thats not a halv-special! Though I've had that specific serving myself and its omgdelicious. They've essentially taken all the accessories to proper swedish meatballs and exchanged the meatballs with a banger.
What a "Halv special" is varies depending on where you are in Sweden. Also, they are dining at a hipster place, so it's their take on a "halv special". 👍
@@MrJockelito not really, unless someone outside of Gothenburg changed it from the original maybe. This one though, still stuck to the essentials for what makes a 'halv special', 1 sausage in a bun with mash. Lets all remember Conny and Päsa from Hisingen the inventors of the halv special XD
I wouldn't say "rejected" but we didn't want to eat the entire menu at Gabriel's 😂. Had to try other favorites. BUT, when we go back, we will try a bunch more dishes at Gabriel's.
No she didnt. They are not something you make a foodie video of. Its like making a foodie burger video and go to McDonalds. They're fine if you want cheap meatballs for lunch but they're not even close to good ones. Ofc, my grandmas ones were the best and I think everyone agree about their grandmas ones. But there are actually restaurants who has good ones too.
I really thought gothenburg was pronounced goo-tin-burg like gluten but hearing her say gothenburg like -goth or -moth I'm no longer so sure. Anyone know which it is?
There will always be a local pronunciation and a foreign one, like saying Paris in French and in American English. Gothenburg is also spelled differently in Swedish, Göteborg. I think local, in this case, is more like "Goat", but I could be wrong.
@@aWanderlustForLife In English the pronunciation is indeed Goth-en-burg (Goth as in moth), but in Swedish it's Gö-te-borg (the 'G' is a j-sound, 'ö' is pronounced like 'i' in bird, 'te' is like the 'tte' in latte, 'bo' is like the 'bo' in bottom (British pronunciation), 'r' is a rolling r, and 'g' is j-sound!) this sounds super complicated though, so I'd suggest just typing it into google translate and have it sound it out for a proper example!

munching on fast food..where is Gothenburg's " traditional food of West Sweden" in this video?..these are mostly popular munchies/ fast food options available in similar form almost in any city in Western world..and no, this doesn't make me jealous..lol..(in my city in normal times there is food like this on every corner)
Thanks for your comment! These are what came up in my research, including speaking with some locals. But I'd love for you to share some of what else should be on this list! We hope to go back and discover more :)
What are you on about? These are not fast food options. Its the popular places true, but you clumping together Gabriels and heaven 23 to f-in Mickey Ds and BK is blasphemious. Get your head out of your ass.
Feskekôrka is basically Gothenburg dialect for "Fish Church".

That is a lot of delicious-looking seafood! I feel like I would fit in well in Sweden! That giant cinnamon roll looked good! Great video!

Awsome video, very helpful indeed.

Awesome! I'd love your feedback after you go!
Everything from the ocean is a must when you are at the west coast of Sweden… beats everything else if you are in to seafood!
Absolutely!
That shrimp sandwich must have cost 200 kronor or so. It's delicious but very expensive in a restaurant.
As a seafood lover this makes me so hungry 😋
Hehe. Hope you get some, soon!

White wine as a child?
