  • Gothenburg is sometimes called the Little London of Sweden, and in 2023 the city turns 400 years old. Time to celebrate - and to check out everything that Sweden's second biggest city has to offer!
For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: www.youtube.co...
Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos: / threestarvagabond
In this video I give a history to the city, and I also dive into why the 400 year celebration is all a LIE! But I also explore everything you can see and do when you're visiting. Aside from scenic views and quirky details that can be found all over town, I also check out the following places:
    - The parade street Avenyn
    - Götaplatsen, with the Poseidon statue, the Museum of Art and the Gothenburg Art Gallery
    - Feskekôrka, the strange sounding fish market from the 19th century
    - Parts of the island of Hisingen, with for example Lindholmen
    - A few bars and pubs, such as Lilla London, Rockbaren and the Steampunk Bar
    - Universeum, Gothia Towers and Liseberg - the biggest amusement park in the Nordics
    - The infamous crossing Korsvägen
    - The public sauna and public swimming pool called Pöl Harbour
    - The Museum of Natural History
    - Aeroseum, an amazing air force museum
    - Haga, the oldest district of Gothenburg, where you can buy a gigantic cinnamon bun called Hagabullen
    - Skansen Kronan, a defensive fortification from the 1600s
    - The Botanical Gardens that turn 100 years old in 2023
    - Slottsskogen, the biggest and oldest park in Gothenburg
    - The Play Shoreline (Spela Shoreline) monument
    - Trädgårdsföreningen, the Horticultural Society in the city center
    - And finally, a quick look at Paddan, a very touristy boat ride along the city canals
Join me in this exploration of everything Gothenburg has to offer. It may not be as cool as Stockholm...but it's not too shabby at all ;)

As of September 2024 the old and now closed Volvo Museum got replaced by a fancy & futuristic World of Volvo (now near city center) with less focus on Volvo history but unfortunately on shiny computer games. And Konsthallen is free only for someone under the age of 25.

I lived in Stockholm for many years and I've never been to Göteborg so far. I was planning to go visiting but every time I see a video of that city I feel like maybe I should move there. I do nog drink alcohol at all and I don't smoke and the majority of people in Stockholm don't smoke either, which I love. I'm also very clean and tidy and even in this case Stockholm and I get along. But when it's about fun Stockholm is the saddest city I've ever lived in. Göteborg looks more alive, is that it? Can I ask you what was your impression about the differences between Stockholm and Göteborg also for how clean the cities are compared to one another? Tack

    • @ThreeStarVagabond
      @ThreeStarVagabond  Год назад +1

Hmm.. Difficult question. I think Göteborg is a bit more relaxed and laid back, so maybe people appear to have more fun. And the city is also very focused around parks in central areas that people hang out in. It gives it a very lively feeling. But I'm not sure if there's actually more to do or more events. The cleanliness is probably very similar to Stockholm, but the areas I visited in Göteborg might have had a bit more trash than the places I usually go in Stockholm. I suspect that that's because Stockholm is more spread out, but if you go to e.g, Rålambshovsparken it's full of trash as well. But it might be easier to avoid in Stockholm.

@@ThreeStarVagabond thank you for the info. For what I know we don't have many places we can go to in Stockholm, especially for someone like me who loves new wave, 60/70/80, pink Floyd, led Zeppelin. Pub anchor is just for drinking while I love music and dancing. Now there are also no more excuses as we are allowed to dance. Maybe debaser but it's always off. People in Stockholm prefer to stay home and meet people at home, ir go out with the intention of drinking/ dating while I would like to go out dancing, especially since I work a lot, I do not drink and my way to space out is following music. @@astridcyanistescaeruleus4126 Sorry to hear that! But that's actually a really good point - almost everything in Stockholm (and maybe Sweden) is centered around drinking. @@ThreeStarVagabond This topic may take a while to cover, so I'll summarize it briefly. My first sambo pretended to be a perfect match for me, showing no interest in alcohol, drugs or smoking in order to impress me. However, to summarize, I found out that he was quite the opposite when he was with his friends, and I ended the relationship. To my dismay, my second sambo turned out to be very similar, and I had to break things off with him as well. They are both Swedish. I won't elaborate any further on trust issues I have now, to avoid digressing.
Over the last decade, I haven't come across anyone who shares my love for spontaneity but also abstains from drinking, snus, mushrooms, or other substances. I used to reside in Karlaplan and then Enskede which are decent areas in Stockholm, but I still haven't found anyone who shares my perspective. I believe it's simply how things are here in Sweden or at least in Stockholm. I ended up isolating myself and feeling better off alone.
Perhaps with the recent reopening of dancing clubs, there could be a shift, but I don't think that's the fundamental issue. Lately, I've been feeling even more constrained as I haven't left Sweden for five years because of the "V". and such. I'm currently traveling through Italy and Spain, and having fun every day, which has brought me to realize how much the environment affects me. Consequently, that's why I was checking videos regarding Göteborg over Stockholm. Maybe moving there could help. But after what I've seen and heard the confusion persists.

We will be in Stockholm at the end of the month, if time permits I’d like to go to Gothenburg for a day. Your videos are always so informative and you give us the good, bad and ugly, for that I Thank You. Stay Safe till next time 👍

Haha it's actually a common Swedish comment if someone makes a bad joke: "So... You're from Gothenburg then?" :D I really hope you'll have an awesome time! Gothenburg as a day trip from Stockholm is possible but not really advisable just so you know! A very early train is probably the best option. But if you're planning a night there, then it's more manageable. Cheers and thank you so much :D
