    Steroids and other PEDS had been used in baseball for decades before Bonds played but out of the hundreds of thousands of pros who came before and since nobody accomplished what he did. He played in the toughest, most talented, post-integrationist era known to man and he dominated while being clean. He was by far the best position player of his era with or without steroids.

  • @vsmith3rd
    @vsmith3rd 5 лет назад +14

    Bonds during that era was significantly better than prime Ruth, Williams and Mays. He was essentially a living video game cheat code.

    • @SonofHsu16
      @SonofHsu16 5 лет назад +2

      vsmith3rd because he cheated...Ruth had less career at bats than Bonds and wasted 5-6 years of his career was a hall of fame level pitcher. Ruth hit 60 hrs in ballparks that had larger dimensions and he also had a career average of .342 Ted Williams .344, Mays .302 Ruth was a far superior player than anyone in baseball history because he changed the game and also was the literal complete ball player. Ruth hit 600 triples in his career and stole home 15+ times. Ruth also had career pitching record of 94-46 over 5 years. Ruth held the record for longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in the World Series of 29 innings for 30+ years. Bonds was a great player but Bonds needed the Steroids to even touch the numbers guys like Ruth and Williams and Aaron put up and still benefitted from the time he played in in terms of conditions and what he had at his disposal

      It's not baseball anymore. Juiced ball, juiced players, bandbox ballparks, shrinking strike zone, lowered pitching mound. Now the pitchers aren't allowed to throw inside. No hitting behind the runner. No situational hitting. Batter swings for the fences regardless of the count or the situation; i.e. man on 3rd with < 2 outs; grounder to infield scores a run, but the hitter keeps swinging for a homer and usually strikes out or pops up. Hitters everywhere striking out 180-200 times a year and nobody seems to care. If all you want to see are home runs, go watch a damn slo-pitch softball game, for chrissakes!

      In a short term effect, it definitely brought the excitement to the game but in a long term effect, lot of people stopped following baseball after PEDs were exposed. It's like the real estate crash we had in 2008. It used to be waaaaay easier to get loans to buy a house. They were basically handing out loans to unemployeed people. People took advantage of that or I should say abused it and crashed the real estate market. So what do we have now? People like myself who followed up to that situation and became an adult after that need to pay for the price and probably generation after mine will have to pay for the recovery. PED scandal was the Black Sox scandal of our era, it should never happen again.

      @King Tubbzzz Steroids aren't a magic pill. They don't "make you strong."
      Likely their greatest asset are regarding more endurance and faster recovery time. This WOULD mean that he could stay strong for a lot longer, which includes both on the field and in the weight room, where his real muscle would be gained.

    What is mind boggling is that people like this guy will say, I came into baseball during the steroid era and I don’t know any other way, and I’m bored with baseball today because they don’t take steroids. These people are so stupid that they don’t even know how ridiculous they sound. In other words, they’re saying, I’m so shallow and so deprived of common sense, I actually think it’s better for people to cheat at a sport to achieve unrealistic results because I was born into that era and I get bored watching the reality of clean athletes competing. I would rather see athletes juiced up on drugs because it makes the game better when one man, built like a refrigerator, can hit 70 home runs in a season. My God, have the youth of this country totally lost their capacity to rationalize what is right and just compared with illegal doping of athletes, not to mention all the terrible side effects on the body. That takes all the competitiveness out of a sport. No wonder why baseball took a hit in those days. There is also a good case to make about Bonds being in the hall of fame with those unrealistic numbers. It’s Cheating and it’s wrong!

    Ted Williams was asked once what advice he had for young hitters. Besides the usual advice of tons of practice, Williams put it this way: "Get as strong as you can. The stronger you are, the quicker your bat. The quicker your bat, the longer you can wait on a pitch. The longer you can wait on a pitch, the less often you'll be fooled, and the less often you're fooled, the more often you'll hit it solidly". That's what steroids did for the hitters. That's why Bonds did something nobody in the 148 year history of professional ball has done; had his peak power seasons after age 35. World class cheater.

      Ted Williams ironically enough was a fan of Bonds and admired his swinging mechanics which largely resembled his. The guy was one of the greatest all round position players in the history of the sport whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

      Connor it doesn't matter, they are banned by the league and are aa form of cheating. We can debate how effective they are but I hope we can agree it is cheating at some level.
      If you cheat on one question for a test you would otherwise get a 98% on, you get a zero. You cheated. It doesn't matter if it was for one question or not.
