  • The Transformation of Barry Bonds: From Pure Talent to Steroid Scandal
    Barry Bonds boasted a career that spanned an impressive 22 seasons in Major League Baseball. But then, despite his numerous accolades, which included breaking the all-time home run record, he would soon find himself in some messy situations as he became a central figure in the ongoing debate surrounding performance-enhancing substances in baseball.

    The steroids extended his career and extended his prime so much. Without the steroids he would not have been able to put up numbers so late into his career. If he didn't take the steroids he may have been known as one of the best but not the greatest.

    Bonds is 100% guaranteed to not be as good if couldn't wear juggernaut armor at the plate while standing over top of it. Notice in Pitt he didn't wear it. Once the league allowed all that protection he hugged the plate without fear. Wouldn't work in the 70sm he'd get blown back incessantly or hit by pitch. I still view bonds as the best ever. But I think his efficiency surged once he got the elbow pad and juggernaut armor at the plate. It helped him own the plate fearlessly. Steroids were less of a factor of his dominance than his body armor.

  • @GlennJackson-d8e
    @GlennJackson-d8e 6 месяцев назад +1

    Easy to say that Bonds was that good because of steroids. No real proof, but plenty of suspicion. I'm not sure that is the case. Compare his record with Aaron's. They played to the same age and were great players and homerun hitters all their careers. Aaron might have been a good base stealer, but the game was different. Bonds had his best homerun season when he was 36. Aaron had his best total when he was 37 and both hit in the range of 40-45 homers during most of their careers. Bonds may have been a lot heavier in his thirties, but Aaron certainly had gained weight in his later years as well. Bonds benefited from a lively baseball in the late nineties and early 2000s while Aaron had to suffer the pitching era of the sixties. Training and diet were much better during Bonds' time than in Aaron's and Bonds certainly took advantage of that. The biggest difference between them was that Bonds always drew an exceptional number of walks while Aaron did not. Also, Aaron was not walked intentionally the way Bonds was due to different strategies. Steroids may have helped Bonds, but if so, there were enough others factors that could have been the reason. Finally, Aaron had fans and the press on his side while they didn't like Bonds. They would like to have his reputation tarnished.

      @@vladimirjackson1272 highly unlikely, given the 100+ years of baseball history where basically no one was better as they approached 40 than earlier in their career. Also hitting the ball further translates into more HRs…hence helping him hit more home runs. Not saying he isn’t a great player, but you can’t overlook the impact steroids had on his career. I think he should be in the hall of fame like the rest of the steroid guys…we just need to acknowledge facts. Thank you for your comment.

As a matter of fact, he was the guy that never came through in the playoffs for the Pirates. His Giant's career tainted baseball forever. not just mlb. THE MEDIA played just a major role in the steroid era as the players and owners/management. canseco, caminitti and others said mlb had a steroid issue. the media ignored them. when it was their favorite player breaking records. all was good. then when bonds, a media pariah, began obliterating records. "Oh NOW we have a problem."

    • @bretth5070
      @bretth5070 2 месяца назад

      Unjustly demonized?!? MLB being complicit does NOT exonerate Bonds. He knew exactly what the "cream and the clear" were. He was BALCO as much as Greg Anderson, and Victor Conte were BALCO. He was the poster boy for PED's. He made Sosa and McGuire look like amateurs as far as PED use is concerned. So many people are looking for someone other than Bonds to blame for what Bonds actually did wrong. The narcissist Bonds has only himself to blame.
