I went to detox in 2020 for heroin/fentanyl use and I only went there to get Suboxone. I never got it, and had to kick the old fashion way...sweating while being ice cold, shivering with a fever, no bowel control, having to pee ever 10 minutes, no sleep, restless legs and arms....
I am so SO glad I had to do it that way. I went on to a PHP program, and into an IOP program with sober living. Now I'm a member of AA, I have an apartment, a newborn and I now work in treatment trying to help the next ones, they way I was helped and guided

Currently decided to stop taking those oxytocin pills. I am currently 24 hours from not taking the medication. I'm glad I had the surgery, but man these withdrawals are strong. I know have a new perspective on this and can empathize with people who struggle with addiction. I am a man of faith, and this is just another battle I'm taking and giving to God. I'm 31 and 4 years sober from alcohol in May. I'm taking this battle seeious. It's so easy to just go take a pill and calm down. 4:01am here on socal and I'm trying to go to sleep. My advice coming from 30 of my 56 years on legal opiates. I have started/stopped so many times I lost count. Some to see what pain from multiple surgeries from a helicopter accident are being hidden and also to reset my tolerance.
Never quit when out of opiates. Having that bail out is mentally important. Running out as you know is your worst fear while prescribed so eliminate that stressor. If tapering and you are beyond miserable, I would cut a IR "breakthrough" say 20 mg into 4 pieces and take one. IMPORTANT. NEVER again can you take more than that and remember the goal is to stop completely. Rolling around going from sweats to freezing in agony = failure leading to a "where that bottle" moment. That 1/4 will become 1/8 until the point it is a spec of opiate.
I always stopped, began taper when I was already SICK or felt horrible. Yes, you heard me. Horrible. Flu, some bug, even a horrible hangover. The physical addiction wds, body pains, tiredness blend into the horrible way you feel so take advantage of it. You are already miserable so ride it out with the opiate issues mixed in. I could write a book but if you have a Dr get something for anxiety, a muscle relaxer like Skelaxin or Zanaflex even Melatonin.
Remember, your brain will throw everything at you it can including pain before it gives up and starts learning how to make it's own chemicals and resetting.

Anyone who hasn't experienced this should try to have a little compassion for someone dealing with this. (set aside the fact that they put themselves there in the first place, they're quitting, give them some credit) Going through the withdrawals is extremely painful. It's all of these symptoms that you hear about, 10 times what you've ever felt. When you hear the fact that these symptoms last for a week... it's the whole week. Because you can't sleep, you feel this 24hrs a day for 7 days. This, right here, is the reason I and other people I know always have had a hard time quitting. If I could sleep that off even just for a few hours of each day it could be manageable, but there is no break from these symptoms. That's what makes it so difficult..

Opioid withdrawal is one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever been through, and I have a lot of painful physical conditions. There's just no way that the words "nausea, insomnia, sweating, chills, etc" can do it justice. It's like the worst fever you've ever had, but multiplied by 100. You just cannot get comfortable no matter what you do. At least that's how it was for me on a full agonist, but more mild ones definitely aren't as bad, but that full-blown opioid withdrawal is so, so horrible.

On top of this I fell and fractured my hip. I ran out Sunday morning. And last night I was in such pain I wanted to hurt myself. But I made it through to this morning. My doctor refilled my meds today.

A shower, putting on clean clothes, eating, self care does wonders for withdrawal. For me, if I keep my hygiene somewhat in check, it helps opioid withdrawals for me big time. Maybe it’s a psychological thing in that just feeling clean helps the wd process or what it is, but doing those things does wonders for me during detox.

I'm sitting here with my daughter's ex; my grandson's father. He is a heroin addict and is going through withdrawals as we speak. We all three - him, my daughter, and myself - decided he would stay here during the process because I was addicted to opioids for sixteen years and have been sober since February 15, 2016, so I know the process personally, and he's been through it before, himself. We all want him alive to be a father to his son. All we can do is encourage him, be there for him, AND PRAY. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, THEN PRAISE GOD AND PRAY SOME MORE. HE can, and WILL get us through anything. He's under medical care, so his dr is aware (just so no to one thinks we've left out that part). Great guy when he is sober; crazy scary when he's not. Please pray with us.

Music is something that really helped pass the time for me going through withdrawals. Especially through the horrible insomnia since it compounds my normal pain, but also the severity of withdrawals. Honestly, music meant so much to me going through withdrawals that I felt that when I wasn't going through it that the music didn't mean as much to me, and I missed that healing feeling.
Just remember, this pain is temporary. Just like a stubbed toe in which you won't be thinking about 15 minutes after it happens, you won't be feeling the severe pain 2 to 3 weeks after it. Once you get to that 3 day milestone, just know that it gets better and easier slowly but surely. Don't push yourself, or feel bad about yourself for not doing what you're normally supposed to do.
Also, take into consideration that your body is there for you. It works, thrives, suffers, and spends every last resource keeping you alive for you. Show it the same consideration if you can.

I became addicted in 2013. Blew my knee out at BYU in our game against UCLA.... from there, I had a knee reconstruction on my ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL and meniscus. The pain pills were taken and it started. Reinjured it again less than a year later and my career ended. Depression set in and I didn't want surgery again, so I turned to pain pills again. Downward spiral from there. Now I'm back to me. It sucked at first. But I'm grateful I went through the pain of quitting. It wasn't the pills I was craving. I went through the mental and emotional withdrawal for almost 6 months. It was during the pains of withdrawal that I understood that I was craving something more than the pills could fulfill. When I realized this, I made the decision to take the addiction by the throat and beat it into submission. Been good ever since 2015. Again, it sucked recovering. But it's so worth it to be free!!! If you're quitting, brace for the hard days ahead. But STAY THE COURSE!!!! You will be grateful you did!!! ✊🏾💯

To any suffering struggling addict, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! The body aches, sweating, pins and needles feeling on your skin, total discouragement, thinking you can't do this, this isn't possible, the shaking, vomiting, shivering, diarrhea, no energy,
YOU CAN DO THIS, YOU ARE ENOUGH! YOU ARE SO LOVED AND CARED FOR! Don't give up you have a father that loves you so much and brothers and sisters all around the world who love you, even though they have never met you, we love you we know the suffering and pain and torture and pure agony you are feeling but cry out to God he loves you, and know there are so many of us in this world who know what you are going through and know how it feels and dont care about your past we aren't judging you and belittling you about the pain you are in and how you brought it all on yourself, we aren't thinking like that. We are here for you I know how hard it is, stay strong reach out for help there are millions of people in this world who are willing and able to help you through your difficult times and the end result is so much more worth it than we can ever imagine 😀
To anyone who reads this, in case nobody has told you today that they love you, I DO, I love you, and there is nothing you can do about it either 😇

The opioid that I used was Tramadol. I was put on Metadone therapy for 2 months during which the methadone dose was progressively reduced until it was eliminated. The withdrawal symptons started at 48 hours later and I went through HELL, ABSOLUTE HELL, did I mention HELL? for a complete month. I wouldn´t wish it on my worst enemy. I´m glad you did not mince words when you described it. I had extreme anxiety, paresthetias, nausea, vomiting, diarreah, insomnia, pain in the joints, mood changes, fatigue, and one of the worst ones was the feeling of having insects under my skin all over my body that wanted to get out and a few more I can´t remember. Cold showers and using the pool at the facility was the only thing that made things bearable. I am glad I was in a controlled environment or I would have gone back without giving it a second thought either to the Methadone or the Tramadol. My withdrawal sympons started being less horrible at week two. Two questions: Why nobody mentions Tramadol? and why did my withdrawal symptons when I stopped the Methadone took an entire month to more or less go away? Thank you.

I'll say it again- this is an excellent, informative and accurate post.
I respect the fact that the doctor delivers a message of HOPE.....things can be better.
I'm happy to save this video as my first entry in my 'Health' playlist.
Wishing all of you who need hope lots of it. Don't let prayer be the last resort.....maybe it should happen first., everyday.

i been using tramadol for about 8 years now, and while it might not be as potent as other opiates i can assure you that the dependence and withdrawal you get from it is very real. i wanna get off it, and the doctors i visited didnt seem to have any real solution to it, even the psychiatrists. so right now im at a crossroads, get off the meds and feel miserable, or keep taking them and feel more normal but with side effects in the long run.

5:20 Yessir, absolutely. I'll never forget the day I stopped taking my prescription for Suboxone. It truly was Hell on Earth...or on my central nervous system anyway. I swear I could feel the molecules of the opioid detaching from my spine, as my nerves reawakened and began "feeling" all of the various input stimuli of simply lying in bed. Shaking, shivering, diarrhea, sweating, aching everywhere, and just wishing it would end. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

Thank you Doctor, This is completely accurate. I find the issue with many people, and a "friend" of mine, is the inability to survive the financial burden of getting off them and function enough to work. it is an impossible task unless you have some sort of extended benefits that will ensure you keep a roof over your head and cover other bills if you have hit rock bottom(no pun intended). I hope to establish a channel/club that can generate enough funds to assist and advocate for people going through these types of issues. Not just opiates, but other challenges that limit many people from living their passion in life. Many humans are not sitting in their right seat in life's journey and this can lead to mental health issues that drive them to copping mechanisms that will only cripple them more. We need to help each other and be compassionate and drop the stigma around substance dependency.

I am not able to take NSAIDs due to years of regular use which led to kidney damage and chronic stomach issues. A bit over 5 years ago I was prescribed a low dose of hydrocodone, 30mg a day. I'm still on the same dose that I started with. Oh, and I need pain control because I have psoriatic arthritis. It started in my lumbar spine in my early 20s and I have had 3 spine surgeries because of it. I see a pain management doctor and recently she told me that because I've been on them for so long that I would have to be weaned off of them if medical science ever finds another pain reduction therapy that I can tolerate. Honestly, this terrifies me. I had very little idea how awful withdrawals could be. I now totally get why people stay on heroin or fentanyl just so they don't get sick. What a disaster the pharmaceutical companies and then the crackdown on prescription opioid therapy have caused.

PS there is so much prejudice I mean from doctors to people who take opiates. They treat Patients like criminals. Whether a person is taking opiates for real physical pain or because you just want to feel better that does not mean you are a bad person.. it is not an ethical issue. Opiate withdrawals should be treated like any other disease. In fact more so. If those doctors knew how much people sufferes they would not wean them off as fast as they do. It is cruel to let humans being suffer so much and be so afraid to tell your doctor that you took extra pills because you needed to clean your house and you couldn't handle your physical pain. They don't hear that at all they see is you're an addict and you didn't do what they said and so now you get nothing.
How is that right ?how is that ethical?not to mention how unmerciful to let people go through opiate withdrawals by themselves, but once you get that written in your chart whether it's true or not if a doctor decides that you have used opiates it is like having a criminal charge on your record question the doctor most doctors don't treat the individual thank God I have a good doctor who does help me but I can't tell her everything. Cuz she's been a little brainwashed also.
I worked in the medical field for 30 years. the way they treated patients with pain was absolutely unethical almost evil. I can't believe in every instance it's all wrong for everyone. I've heard if you take them long-term you get something called fibromyalgia which means the opiates actually start causing you pain. But how can they say that that happens to every individual? Providers have gotten away from treating the individual person. Plus most of us were never told the contraindications of taking opiates long-terms now when we want to get off of them the provider's treat us like we did something wrong i...t's a catch-22..
does anybody know of someone who started a Blog on this. This is one of the last discriminations people have not addressed in this country that too many people are suffering for it. Many facilities never prescribed opiates we still know they are the safest and best analgesic for acute pain

The one thing I wish he would have discussed at least in SOME detail was the difference between Fentanyl and almost every other opiate/opioid when it comes to Suboxone. Maybe he does cover it more in the actual sub video, idk for sure, I haven't watched it, but for people who come across this, it would be VERY important information to have.
Fent is fat-soluble, like how cannabis is, versus almost every other one being water-soluable. Water-soluable drugs tend to enter and exit your system faster - even with heavy use, maybe 3-5 days and it's completely out - but fent will just absolutely SIT in your system, and if you are going to go the route of using Suboxone for management, this has MAJOR implications.
Precipitated withdrawal, which he did refer to, can occur when you take Suboxone before the opioids have completely left your body's opiate receptors. Suboxone is extremely competitive and has a "bind and block" action instead of "bind and activate" like other drugs, so it WILL kick out anything you didn't get rid of and you will go into the worst version of withdrawal for anywhere from 1-8 hours (usually an average of 6 hours).
I waited FIVE full days from my last dose of fent to take a dose of subs and the immediate sweating told me I made a very big mistake. I've been in it before, but this was so much worse than anything prior, so I did even end up in the hospital, not able to lay still and just twisting in agony with muscle contractions I thought was definitely going to tear some tendon or ligament with how contorted I had to be to get ANY amount of relief.
The point of this is, if you're on fent (like most people taking "heroin" cuz it's rare to even find anymore), and you do your induction visit for the first time with the doc, if it's been less than at LEAST 72 hours, TELL the doctor this and that it's fent your dealing with, because if you were a heavy user, you've got A LOT built up in your body and it doesn't come out quickly.
The best option in this case (though the vast majority of drs aren't going to authorize this themselves, but they'll tell you that it IS a good strategy) is to try and change from using fent to a water-soluable version (morphine, oxys, etc.) that you can use for substitution to a drug that leaves your body much faster and therefore minimizes your risk of hurting yourself. Otherwise, you REALLY need to be careful and leave significant time to clear everything out.
Just my two cents from a dude who made the same dumb mistake that I wish on NOBODY, ever ☺️

I have been on 130 mg of morphine er for 15 years. I ran out for 3 days before my script was refilled and it sucked. My main thing was restless leg syndrome and twitching, drove me crazy. I want to get off this stuff it is horrible and doesn't work for me anymore. I feel for all of you who are going through withdrawal.

I am watching this 3rd of april 2024 and I am on day 5 cold turkey after a broken hip and multiple surgeries. I dont think I am suffering as much as some of you. I have NO desire for any painkiller, I do have trouble sleeping, sneezing and yawning, goosbumps but I dont feel moody or cravings. I think I am pretty lucky so far and I really hope it will not kick in later. I have been on just “normal” morphine so I believe that the peak is not coming later since I am already on the 5th day (+100 hours)

Thanks for the video Andrew, I’ve been struggling with opioid withdrawal for a month, the first few days I was in hell literally.
    I’m a woman and 19 years old .
My whole body was in pain , I had anxiety and even had thoughts of suicide , I had chills muscle spasms. I vomited .
I felt like I was going to die . I felt so depressed . I was crying myself to sleep
But finally after a month I’m starting to feel normal again, it wasn’t easy . It was hell
I know opioids causes the body to release dopamine , the happy hormone
And when you stop taking opioids ,the body stops producing dopamine and that’s when the withdrawal symptoms kick in.
Everyone fighting with opioid withdraw, I know it’s hell but you can overcome it. Trust in yourself
Thank you dr Andrew for Bringing this to everyone’s attention 🙏😊
Opioids can be a life saver when you’re in pain, but it can also become a nightmare .

Alcohol withdrawal and opioid withdrawal can’t compare
Opioid withdrawal is much worse .
It took about a month . First week was hell . My whole body was numb . Headaches. I has terrible anxiety. My partner had to feed me in beed. Has trouble sleeping
All I could think about getting another pill and I would feel better .
Second week was better . So starting 3D week I was beginning to feel
Normal again . So 3-4 weeks I would say.
I know it’s hard but don’t talk to people who can give you a chance to go back to it . They buy it for you or something .
My advice is to try different foods. Make foods that you love every day . And go for long walks . Fresh air . Good luck 🤞
If you have a partner tell him to stay with you if he can . Being alone first week is not a good idea .

I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice just words from someone who had been through this three times due to chronic pain conditions. The symptoms are exactly as he described hell and if you don’t know what your getting into it can be incredibly scary. Ps I never used more than prescribed or longer than prescribed I was never mentally addicted but was definitely dependent so if I can help others I hope to do that.

They lied to me and told me suboxone was used for Chronic pain and now I'm stuck on it and I want off of it. I'm SCARED TO DEATH. I've never been through withdrawal in my life. @@axloz6494 currently going through a relapse on and off with OxyContin. Best advice to get through it is TO NOT BE SCARED. your mindset has a bigger portion to do with it than your body. I’ve noticed through different withdrawals I’ve gone through that after the first intense 3 days the pain will only stop through your mindset. If you want to quit these so bad look at it as a war with your mindset. Don’t let the bad thoughts get to you. The more I think about oxys the more I feel the pain and depression of the withdrawals. The first time I went through withdrawals sadly was the worst because I was scared just like you. The first 3 days is pain because that’s when your body is like where the hell did it go?
So you start feeling like you’re literally sick and you think the worst thoughts and this is what causes people to keep using or switching to something worse. The best advice I can give you is if you really want to stop using. You will get through it. Just think about getting clean and I wish you the best of luck. I myself haven’t fully quit all the way. It may take some time a lot of people like myself relapse

By God great all mighty!; I’m going through this with his help and The only stock that drives me on three is to know that I will see myself perfectly OK and alright some day on the other side. I am so focused I’m looking forward to hopefully someday not being in any tremendous amount of pain; having my energy back and not being tired all the time like I have been for the last 13 years. I can say that for the patients who swapped over from OxyContin and all forms of various types of narcotic pain pills. From my experience the withdrawal symptoms aren’t quite as bad but they can still be pretty intense!

28 days clean from Fentanyl today after 12 years of essentially non-stop heroin/fent use (not including the 2 years if hydro/oxycodone I was originally legitimately prescribed to). I went through 14 days of hell, 2 hospital visits, a stomach bug from the hospital, but I made it out the other end with my life intact and I don't want to go anywhere NEAR back. I've placed as many roadblocks in place to access and have established a great support system, and I'm working with a board-certified addiction medicine psychiatrist to work to get better.
This time is extremely different, I am DONE.

User friendly while full of useful information.
Many legitimate pain patients have been suddenly cut under misunderstandings of the CDCs first and second guidelines. Punative measures have been taken against those most vulnerable by out of fear and pressure. Yet, like an addiction case, too many pain patients receive no information, support, or direction about what to expect, how to care for their bodies, and to protect their mental health during withdrawal.
Your kind words of support can be very important to legitimate users suddenly cut.
They are abandoned by their physicians and going through H*LL alone. And maybe, even experiencing an amplification of comormidities.
Kind words and treatment shores up a person falling apart. Thank you for providing this series. I will use and share them with others in need.

@@Logans_Fun depending on what you do to help your body detox could significantly reduce the severity and time. I recommend staying hydrated by drinking coconut water only because it has a lot of potassium and magnesium which helps the body rehydrate especially because your vomiting a lot plus these minerals with help your body really calm down and relax. Also if you are hydrated the body can expel those toxins out of your body so much quicker. Before you know it you will be feeling 50% better. Just don’t throw in the towel so easily the fight is so worth it I promise. If you want to know more reply to this and I’ll be happy to help brother.
