This was very insightful. I will say this: I think the better DAW conversation is based on your genre/style of music and production. If you're someone who is leaning more towards loop-based recording and production, then Ableton is a better option, especially if you buy into the ecosystem they've created with their hardware and software integration. If you are recording more audio or non-loop midi production, then Logic is probably the better of the two options. I appreciate Logic trying to cater more to the urban producer but they still have a ways to go if they want to be competitive in this market and audience. However, I'm still #TeamLogic lol
I’m still going rock with Logic Pro have been for years now but I will definitely get your viral sound class because it’s time for me to get myself out there. Thank you bro 🙏🏾
@@Yhuntermusic Can you please consider doing a video on the Launchkey 37 vs Ableton Push 3. You recently did a video speaking really highly of the 37. I would like to see how you feel about them compared to one another .
Hey there! Good stuff. I use both too and Ableton currently has the edge for me for similar reasons. Just an FYI on the grid adjustment. In Logic, you can create a shortcut for it.."set next higher/lower division"...
I switched from Logic to Ableton some time ago - and Push was the reason. If Apple offered something like the Push (or a competitive third party product for Logic existed), I’d be tempted to switch back. Logic Remote for iPad is pretty neat and useful, but (as you note), it’s not a real competitor to Push as an instrument. Logic is great, but having a DAW controller along the lines of the Push is essential to me. 😁
I’ve tested roar against chromaglow and roar sounds better in almost all circumstances and when you add in the sound design possibilities with roar it’s a clear winner.
Great video glad you were able to get back on logic. I think logic is a superior daw, but Ableton also has its strengths, one feature you did forget to do was live loops which is amazing on logic. Keep up the great work.
You're helping people that's what's up!!! I always say people have to look at the workflow of what they're doing when it comes to daw choice. I think Ableton is dope with arranging/making beats vs Logic got nicer instrument sounds and is very good for mixing. Keep up the good work!!!
Each has its strength. Another unbeatable thing in Logic is its tempo detection - you can play freely and have it apply the tempo back to the project or you can quantize any performance- The quality of the tempo detection is amazing.
That drink with the command keys to change the note length is the absolute bomb! Is that new to ableton 12? I only just got it. If it is a feature from older versions, shame on me for not knowing! Keep up the good work dude😊
Logic Teacher here On ChromaGlow It's kinda difficult to know what it's doing if you have other distortion/saturation plugins on the track like pedalboard and overdrive. On editing Midi you can set the changing of grid values to a key command it makes it so much easier On editing drums, it is a lot easier to get the sound you're going for in the step sequencer than in the standard key editor
Nice!!! Now the drum kit "Chopped Up" had those plugins on it by default to make the "sound" of the kit, if that makes sense? That being said, applying ChromaGlow "should" enhance the sound that was already built with the prior plugins. Same thing applies to Ableton, the drum kit "Diverge Kit" already had stock plugins on it to make up the sound of the kit. Roar enhanced what was already there.. Put your brother on game about the grid value changes in Logic lol!! Step sequencer is also a good strategy! Well done fr fr!
@@Yhuntermusic No problem at all only here to help! I hear you about the enhancements but depending on the type of saturation (Odd vs even harmonics, oversampled or not, etc. ) the other plugins are creating it may clash making the sound overly distorted or too rich.
Great Comparison, I think Ableton has the Edge in Randomizing drums also! I have completely switched to PC because my library is so massive now. So, I used Ableton and Studio One simultaneously because of ARA Studio One Dolbt Atmos, and Spatial Audio is so Intuitive. ❤
I'm doing another class on another DAW right now, but it will end soon and I definitely want to checkout your Viral Sounds Masterclass. If find knowing multiple DAWs really helps understanding recording in general.
I’m switching to Ableton from Logic now. One thing in Logic is you don’t have to go to the top to change the grid for extra notes like you showed at the end of the video. In the piano roll click “time quantize” and go to the note length you want. I use the brush tool and not the pencil tool, but yea you can just brush in the notes and keep your original piano roll grid at 1/16th the entire time. So try clicking like 1/16 triplet or 1/32 triplet and it’ll brush little small notes in there. Hope this helps.
Great video, thank you! At the end of the day, both DAWs are excellent and I think it depends mostly on the style of music you make and the way you like to work. I used Live Suite for 10 years and made a full switch to Logic Pro last year because I find it more useful for the way I make music. I never liked Ableton session view that much, fun to create loops but I'm much more productive in arrangement view, and I prefer the UI and workflow of Logic. I tried Push 2 but after the short honeymoon phase, I never really gelled with it as working with a mouse and keyboard + controller/16 pads is way more faster and pleasant for me. But if you mainly make loop and/or sample based music, I can totally see why you would prefer Ableton, it's a fantastic DAW.
Thanks a lot for tuning in and sharing! I can definitely see your POV! I was a traditional producer in Logic Pro for like 10 plus years so I get it! I became a performing artist and that changed my whole perspective on production. Like you said, both are amazing!

"Most people do not like the session view in Ableton"....😅. One of the first things I do is go straight to arrangement view. As someone who remembers Ableton from way back when I got the lite version with my sound card, it has always felt more like a DJ's DAW that evolved into include more Midi production. I think Session View is great if you want to trigger clips/loops and use it "Live", but I prefer arrangement view for production. There are things that I like better about each. I like Logic and the traditional Linear view/style. I think Logic has better stock sounds also and is the overall better value price wise assuming you have a Mac. Been using Logic since 2003. Also using Live since about 2008. Now using Live 12 for most productions. Still use both tho. Bounce in place in Logic is should also be in Live 12. heard it's coming…
For me, Logic was a great transition coming from Protools HD and the full Analog environment. The problem started when Apple shifted their focus from being a company for “The Professional Creatives” to a “Prosumer” friendly business. Remember the fiasco that was the Final Cut 7 transition to FPX? I feel like that slowly happening again with this latest Logic 11 update. One thing that we have to remember is that Apple is in the business of selling hardware and they don’t really make all of their money from “Software.” If that was not the case, then, they will be charging us for all of their OS releases and everything else like Pages, Numbers, etc. You can’t even use Chroma-glow if you don’t have an M1 in your computer, so they are already forcing you to buy one more thing (FOMO). And let’s face it, they already got you with the smart phone, smart watch, iPad, laptop, etc and etc, so a mere $200-$300 dollars ain’t worth a headache for them, plus, Piracy isn’t a force to be reckon with, they’ve just chosen to ignore what the rest of these poor developers have to deal with. Apple computers have always been a staple in every studio because Protools was first released in an Apple computer. Back then, Apple knew that Logic was the obvious choice to close the ecosystem and retain better user data. Logic was also Apple response to the overwhelming and growing community of home recording musicians who could barely afford an MacBook and an Audio interface. Let’s be honest, Logic isn’t hitting the same as it used to, maybe it might work for you, but to me, it has turned into another “App” that happens to have AU plugins and Touch functionality. I still love Apple products, but I’ll stick to Ableton + Push for my creative workflow. Peace.
Sincerely appreciate you sharing that more than you know! That's what this video is all about.. Create a conversation about what our daily workflows are like IRL!!! Appreciate this!
Hi! I'm a minimalist composer and I can't decide if I want Logic or Ableton. Can you give me some help on what to pick? I don't know what the genre I make is, but it is very down to earth. It feels more like an "art" piece more than an actual song. Usually consists of traditional elements such as violin and piano. But once in a while I like to add some ambient touches and delve into some sound design in order to make it feel more ephemeral. An example, listen to [VOISART - Like Glass] (if you want to of course.) But that is usually the type of music I make. Which should I choose? I'd very appreciate if you'd help me on this decision.
If you own a mac, Logic is going to be the cheaper "easier" route. If you want to get deep into sound design and atmospheric textures with a more intuitive workflow, Ableton will get you right.
Im new like you and wow the piece you mentioned is beautiful , it reminds me of the score of " A silent voice " which I recommend you give a listen . That being said Im wondering what you picked ? As of now I am sticking with logic since I have a mac , and because I have it on free trial ( you get 90 days but there is a video where it shows you how to reset it lol I am on my second 90 days ) .
@@Love.Yourself.First.333 Yes, A silent voice is very beautiful, I love lit (var), and it’s one of my big inspirations. I’m currently trying out both DAWS right now. What about you? what kind of music you make?
@@masodu As of now Im using logic since I have a mac and because you can get it for free basically since you get a 90 day trial that can be easily reseted . Im still new to music , I basically have no knowledge on music making and its something I wanted to pick up and learn why music sounds the way it does . Because of that I really started to enjoy music more and the emotion it can give so the music I now want to make is pop / indie pop and create my own lyrics ( queen is my biggest inspiration as well as frank ocean ) as-well the same genre you want to do ( ludwig and hanz zimmer and Hiroyuki swano are my inspo and a silent voice / spirited away ). Sorry for the long paragraph lol
I’m a heavy logic user i use it since 2011. but i can tell you that Ableton Live is #1 DAW worldwide and is on trend a long time ago probably since version 9, Logic is #2 but to me Logic is #1
I want to do a full live performance set that involves multiple songs, tempo changes, triggering scenes on fly This is “kind of” possible in Logic Pro Live Loops But can we trigger scenes for an entire set in one Logic project? Or pretty much got to learn Shelton for this?
I don't know bout this comparison... is not apples to apples. b4 anything in terms of saturation is applied there's some type of processing going on in Ableton that wasn't happening in logic. The sound coming from Logic was not only thicker but sounded as if limiting was taking place.
I love Ableton for live application, but for tracking Logic is king. The price of logic can't be beat by Ableton. $200 vs $800 plus paying for updates. Ableton should be waaaay better but its not. Ableton does have a sound but you can get that sound in logic 11. Alot of people use 3rd party plug-ins so if you don't like chroma glow its not a deal breaker. With Serato sample, the stem separation, and a 3rd party controller from Akai, or Native instruments Logic is hard to beat. If Logic makes a native controller its a wrap.

Comparing Roar to ChromaGlow is like comparing a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air; it's unfair because they serve different purposes. Roar is a multiband distortion, whereas ChromaGlow is something entirely different. Logic’s Clip Distortion is somewhat similar to Roar but lacks the multiband capability.
It feels good to see so many embracing Ableton!!! Not to hate on Logic, but you will appreciate Ableton if you take minute to learn. This video is great, but it still doesn't touch the surface in regards to all that Ableton is able to do. Thanks bro!

Not sure if it sounds better as much as the sounds selection sounds better. Logic ought to be ashamed of themselves for letting Chromaglow go out there in a world where Roar exists...I'm embarrassed for them.
I’m confused. You prefer Ableton because it has branded hardware? Logic doesn’t need dedicated hardware because you can use almost any hardware or just use the iPad as an instrument. Ableton doesn’t have a great non-hardware interface. That’s a deficit. Logic for the win in this matchup💪🏾 Now if you wanted the easy win, live looping is Ableton’s secret sauce over logic. Logic just doesn’t do it as well. But the hardware gear is an option not a benefit IMO

Thank you. Have you tried Fl Studio 2024?
Logic shines on recording and mixing
@@Love.Yourself.First.333 It’s ok, btw do you have discord? I’m down to talk with you some more about music
Its so hard to compare because they both do similar but different things. Bitwig is a great middle ground of Ableton and logic.
I’m a heavy logic user i use it since 2011. but i can tell you that Ableton Live is #1 DAW worldwide and is on trend a long time ago probably since version 9, Logic is #2 but to me Logic is #1
Thank you, Yaahn!
My pleasure!
Which is better for record beats from the MPC X in stand alone Logic or Ableton.I prefer using my output from the MPC X. I also have an Apollo Twin
I want to do a full live performance set that involves multiple songs, tempo changes, triggering scenes on fly
This is “kind of” possible in Logic Pro Live Loops
But can we trigger scenes for an entire set in one Logic project?
Or pretty much got to learn Shelton for this?
Thank you Sir!🙏🏾
My pleasure!!
you could also just duplicate the track and then freeze and flatten. i think that would be faster than creating a track, freezing and then dragging
Agreed!!
which one do you think is better for composing? ie, piano, violin, orchestral.
Logic Pro!!!
@@Yhuntermusic thanks! will b getting it themn :)
for live performance and looping nothing can beat Ableton Live
Bro, FL Studio been able to do that bounce in place for years.
I believe it! Logic has been doing that from jump as well
I don't know bout this comparison... is not apples to apples. b4 anything in terms of saturation is applied there's some type of processing going on in Ableton that wasn't happening in logic. The sound coming from Logic was not only thicker but sounded as if limiting was taking place.
Fair on the “Apples to Apples”. There was nothing on the master fader(s) in each DAW. No limiting at all. Just the RAW sound of each..
Is the push 3 the only device that works like this with ableton or does maschine work with it like that as well?
It can work! You'll have to put it in "User Mode".
For the Freeze Flatten…just duplicate the track and freeze and flatten one of them
Bingo!! That's what I've been doing OR "Command T" for an audio track and option drag! Either way, we gets it done lol! Good to see you again!
@@Yhuntermusic yes sir! We do!
@@bjamminsincebirth3494 Ayee!
For the freeze in ableton why not just duplicate the entire midi track?
Dope option as well!
Can't beat Logic's price at all and lifetime updates!!! Lots of tools out here in these streets as you mentioned. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!!
Which one is best for mixing and mastering?
Logic's format for traditional mixing and mastering is a little easier! I have videos up for both:
Logic Pro Mixing and Mastering
ruclips.net/video/8Up6C2j1ggo/видео.htmlsi=GkO_-qpyq4lWtTJB
Ableton Live 12 Mixing and Mastering
ruclips.net/video/Is03RVW9ddU/видео.htmlsi=YYL_hg_uceTbciaI
Ableton is really great but anytime they ever allow logic next update to allow me to manipulate midi n warp like ableton it’s done
Lol I definitely feel you on that!
I see your standpoint! It's the new featured plugins that both DAWs were emphasizing.
@@Yhuntermusic thank u
How would these compare to FL Studios?
FL has a different workflow. The step sequencer in FL is UNMATCHED! Depends on what workflow appeals to you
The one You can use on any computer is always better
Touche'
Stems in Ableton would be golden
THESE are FACTS!
It feels good to see so many embracing Ableton!!! Not to hate on Logic, but you will appreciate Ableton if you take minute to learn. This video is great, but it still doesn't touch the surface in regards to all that Ableton is able to do. Thanks bro!
Yo it was literally TOO much to cover in one video! I shot this joint 4 TIMES! I had to pull the best segments that people would actually watch! But TRUST ME there was more i could say lol!!!
@@Yhuntermusic ohhhh bro I know! It’s will take an entire series to capture all that Ableton entails. You did a phenomenal job highlighting some of the differences and comparison! Ayeeee yall go jump in my Guy’s Masterclass as well ✊🏾✊🏾
niether is better, just use whats more comfortable for you.
Logic Pro 11 = $200 with free upgrades. 🏆
NOW THAT PART RIGHT THERE!!
Is it me or does Ableton Sound better? 🤔
LMBO!!!! According to these developers.. DAWs don't have a "Sound"... And yet, why do we HEAR a difference??? So my answer is..... YES it sounds better lol!
Same here
Not sure if it sounds better as much as the sounds selection sounds better. Logic ought to be ashamed of themselves for letting Chromaglow go out there in a world where Roar exists...I'm embarrassed for them.
@@Yhuntermusicthanks for your honest response. Much respect to your content and creative skills!!
Ableton uses Resample feature
Yes!! I do that as well from time to time!
You compare a real instrument with an iPad, don't you?
I’m confused. You prefer Ableton because it has branded hardware? Logic doesn’t need dedicated hardware because you can use almost any hardware or just use the iPad as an instrument. Ableton doesn’t have a great non-hardware interface. That’s a deficit.
Logic for the win in this matchup💪🏾
Now if you wanted the easy win, live looping is Ableton’s secret sauce over logic. Logic just doesn’t do it as well. But the hardware gear is an option not a benefit IMO
I prefer Ableton for A LOT of reasons outside of hardware lol!!! If you watched the whole video you'll get a bit more context
Bro broo😅😂💪🏾🗣️ROar
LMBO!!! YO!!!
🫡👍🏾🫡
Ayee!!
