Yes! Home economics needs to be put back in school as well as shop classes!
Absolutely college is not for everyone.
Home Ec
Civil Civics
& Shop
All need to be brought back!
I agree - our school does have shop just not home ec
@@quickandtastyonthefarm a civic class like I had. We learned everything from the Constitution to how to vote, fill out taxes, maintain a checking account, etc
We had a class in the 90's called Basic Adult Living. It was a "souped-up" version of home economics and some basic household finance and sex-ed all rolled into one. It was a great experiment and I was told last year that it is still available at my little country school. Has a new name I can't recall at the moment, but has advanced with technology and knowledge. I still remember things I learned in that class.
Wonderful idea. I’m in my 60’s and have always enjoy cooking and baking. So many of today’s young people didn’t have the advantage of home cooking that my generation grew up with. Most parents worked outside the home, meals were grabbed on the go. So many valuable lessons were learned and discussed in the kitchen and around the dinner table.
very good point! I think growing up most of my meals were around the dinner table with my entire family and the kids helped prepare it and clean up
How to make a simple white sauce and gravy, how to make a good roast, a pie crust - I think it would be great!
great idea
I agree
There are a lot of people who don’t know how to cook. I remember an older lady who took it upon herself to show people how. She saw the need! A station in Nashville picked up the local story. She was showing a single dad how to make a lazy cobbler. You can make delicious food without a lot of work. Yes, there is a need!
Alot of young people don't know how to cook. The cooking course is a wonderful idea! Ideas for titles : Meal Planning / How To Read A Recipe / Cutting A Recipe In Half (or double it)
thank you! those are great ideas and i will be sure to include them!
If you can read, you can cook.
@@hensonlauraNot always the case, I’ve been a Classical French chef for over 50 years. Some students can read a recipe but cannot put it into practice. There is much more to “cooking” than you have ever thought about. Please remember that you are dismissing the careers of millions of people. Being able to read the back of a Mac and cheese box does not mean to say you can cook. I wish you all the very best to you and yours from Scotland. Rab
@raibeart1955 Ok... my dream human just arrived in the chat! Classical French Chef...Check. Lives in the most beautiful country on the planet...Check. Has the accent of every steamy dream I've ever had since I found out my grandmother (whose grandparents came to the US on a boat from their homeland and took the surname of said ancestral home [Americanized of course] Scott) was a proud Scott who told wonderful stories of dragons, sea monsters and Sailors coming home to their ladies after fighting the thick fog and the serpent-like creatures of the deep sea. She spoke of returning to the home land of her ancestors to find the one person fated to be her perfect mate wondering the coast awaiting her return. Everything that came out of her mouth was romanticized and beautiful. Our middle school cafeteria lady was the grandmother of a very good classmate and friend. She new I would be by every day for my dose of her accent and bone crushing hugs. One of my very best adult friends (our sons were inseparable best friends) met her Prince Charming online and he was an insanely proud 10th generation resident of Scotland. She has since married him and moved to Scotland where they live MY fairytale dream life sending me blindingly beautiful photos of their travels. It seems like I can't stop being pulled in that direction. I suppose my destiny is to just enjoy the warm, rich envelopment that Scotland has become in my life! Thank you for exposing what it "really" takes to be anything more than a boxed Mac and cheese cook. I am a proud 5th generation Southern woman with the wisdom and secrets handed down to make me somewhat of an anomaly these days; a from-scratch Southern cook who has "fattened-up" more than my share of folks who were both physically and mentally hungry. It's definitely my love language and for someone who loves food of most every kind, it's a wonder I don't have a weight problem myself. I may have a little extra cushion or padding here & there, but I suppose the "chase" of the next yummy meal has been enough to keep me a healthy size. Thank you so much again for letting me daydream about night things in the middle of the afternoon.
Yes, and, I know Home E.C. is, I guess now, being phased out in schools! I started helping out in the kitchen early on as a child and, I was allowed to cook early on in my pre- teens and, when, I was in middle school in Indiana Home E.C.was a requirement for both boys and girls, as well, as machine shop! 13:31 There are a lot of people my age and, even older that don’t actually cook! 14:48
I love casseroles, a meal in one!!!!
me too
Have mercy, I’ve cooked for my kids, nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors etc. when they all grew up and moved out they kept calling asking how to make this or that. I finally paid a company to print out a cookbook with all of my tried and true recipes. 😊
I think you need to start with the basics of buying food, washing it, and storing it safely. Maybe add lots of salads to your course for summer meals. Italian pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, Waldorf salad, apple salad, coleslaw. Basic salads that can be used as a side dish for more than one meal. Many young people don't know how to make these.
Thanks for the tips!
I've been doing the egg yolk in the bottle for a couple of years now. People don't realize you can just screw the lid on and store the yolks in the bottle in the fridge to save for whenever.
You can even add a little water or milk or cream, maybe some salt and shake them up and store in the freezer for longer term storage. Label the bottle with amt of liquid added to make it easier to use in recipes.
Hey Thank you ❤ Such a great idea I will put to use.
Love it!!!! A great idea might be to share what the basic staples every kitchen should have.. Salt, pepper, garlic salt, onion powder, sugar, flour, etc. love your channel!!
such a great idea!! so important to have on hand
I think a lot of young people would benefit from a cooking course! (Adults, too - I know a lot of older adults who don't cook). Knife skills, how to cut vegetables and meats, and how to measure ingredients would be a great place to start.
Basic cooking terms. Why cooking food is healthier than eating out.
Loved your recipe here! I haven't made it yet, but it's one I will definitely try. I have always loved to cook, even at an early age. When I got married, I moved to a family farm, which my husband was the oldest of eight children. I was a city girl growing up, but quickly learned to become a farm cook. I learned so much! Wouldn't trade it for the world! I'm glad you are going to start a cooking course for newly weds. I think it's very needed for the younger generation. I thought a cute name for your course might be...."Newlywed and Down-Home Fed", because farm cooking is as down-home as it gets!
Just call it, "Let's get cookin!" Keep it simple. Because I feel you can take it a step further and not just for newlyweds or college kids. You can even include adult singles who want to learn, and stop being fun of because they don't. Lol AKA my older sister but she is married with kids but still has my mom cooking for her every day. God bless you sister, love you're family, i love that you love and how you kissed you're hubby! I love that so much, you're a great mother and wife I can tell. You came across my feed on RUclips, this was my first time viewing you. I'll watch again! God bless sister.
you are so kind thank you great name!
I love the title' Let's get cookin'
Hooray I’m thrilled y’all love it! And now so many others will be able to make it too! It’s truly an easy fun recipe and great for summer! Amy J
Ya Amy Thank you for sharing - it really is so delicious!
Thank you for sharing!
In the 60’s in Home Economics we started with cooking bacon 🥓 in the oven. Then we were in group and had to cook breakfast……slowly but surely! The need home economics in SCHOOL ALSO MONEY MANAGEMENT,!!
Love the idea of teaching course for newly weds etc. Our son was widowed a couple years ago, now single dad with 3 teenagers. I will tell him about your idea. He lives in Alabama!
Wow - what a tender time for you and your son. Your grandkids are blessed to have their dad and grandma who cares prayers for all of you
Yes great idea! Many don't even know how to get started in a kitchen
So true!
Amazing recipe, looks delicious!!!❤ For your course..cuts of beef, pork and chicken, ways to cook them. Fry, braise, bake etc. This is an amazing plan Vicky!!! Kudos!❤
great ideas thank you and thank you for your boost of confidence i am nervous and excited about this
What a sweet channel. Glad I found it. Also, I want to say how nice it is to watch a farm family. I really appreciate American farm families. It is a good way to live, even tho, most of us couldn't hack it. God bless you all.
One of the most important lessons my mother taught me as a newlywed and new to cooking variation, was What Spice goes with What food, and what spices go together in a single dish! That saved my bacon so many times in the kitchen. I could spice up a plain meal, toss some new flavors together, spice up my own meats. It was the one lesson that stuck with me besides her tomato flour gravy which was the base of one sauce the base of all, chili, spaghetti, enchilada. Just gravy made with tomato sauce instead of just milk and water. Change the spice, change the dish.
wow I love this would never have thought of teaching this thank you
@@quickandtastyonthefarm You are welcome. I love your vids!
Yes on learning the basics of cooking for girls AND boys.
thank you
A large cafeteria used to make this in the mid to late 70's. My friends mom used to work there. The only difference is the recipe had pecans. I think it was called millionaires pie. Oh, they made it in pie tins. This is the best 😊
Furr’s Cafeteria in Texas
Yes it is great info.
Your a cute family . God bless you too and yes I think you got a great idea for new cooks.thank you for sharing
Thank you so much
Sauces, to really feel comfortable with sauces would be so easy and so important Good luck! Sharon
Love the idea. I’m 75 and learning new things every day. I love to read recipes. My thought for the name of the new course: Let’s Get Cooking.
fun idea for the name
Those ritz bars look amazing 👏. Your horses 🐎 are beautiful ❤. I lived on a farm 🚜 as a child and this makes me reminisce. ❤
what a great childhood
I think a cooking lesson for young adults and married couples is an excellent and important idea. I taught my boys how to cook and they cook a lot for their families. You can make it easy and fun for everyone to learn and enjoy the art of cooking of cooking. Great idea. ❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👍👍 I even taught them to clean as well and not make a big chore out of it. ‘COOKING MADE FUN FOR BEGINNERS’ is a good title.
Teach safety in the kitchen. Especially cooking with hot oil and what to do in case of fire. My daughter in law did not know not to use water on a grease fire. Very important. Love your show❤
thank you - so so important
Oh wow, God bless her is she alright?? I hope so!! May the good Lord protect her and the whole family (even when she cooks lol) I shouldn't laugh but I think of my older sister who boiled water and burned the pot which almost cost us a home fire growing up. Anyhow, blessing to you all sister!
This is a wonderful idea! A great thing to have a video on would be kitchen staples. For example, a good knife for cutting, sizes of measuring cups, spoons, pans, etc. You don’t need all the fancy stuff to make a great meal!
Wonderful idea on the cooking plan.
Beautiful! Can't wait to make this treat! Yes, we do need cooking classes. Utube is full of sites that just throw processed foods into 9x13s and crockpots. Nothing is thought out and no technique..Home economics is so important and it's pretty much gone now.❤
Love how you take your time! Your family and friends be proud of you. 🥰
thank you so much
I think it's a great idea! A starter course that gives quick and easy simple recipes in the first lesson.
A meat loaf recipe, how to cook tasty vegetables. How to cook a good breakfast that can be used as a supper. I am 84 and learned to cook while living by myself. There are always going to be mess up but learn to be able to change and not worry about it.
love this and yes there is always going to be messes but your right we need to not worry about it. thank you
That is the neatest separating egg hack I've ever seen !! Yes, I think the cooking courses would be a GREAT IDEA !! Idk what they teach in the Home Ec. classes in school now or even if there available. But I think there's so many young adults that don't know the basics of cooking. Idk what you'd plan on having in the courses/classes Vicky but whatever you do I'm sure it would be awesome. Because anything y'all put on here is !! I have a homemade sugar cream pie recipe that is really good. Idk if you already have one or if you'd like it. Thanks to y'all for sharing this video with us I really enjoyed it. Y'all stay safe and God's blessings to each one of you.
ha ha but kind of true
wd love yr recipe!,😊
I taught my girls how to cook when they were toddlers. My dad was a wonderful cook and he taught me. My mom could burn going water
thats neat your dad taught you and you passed it on.
This looks so yummy! Can’t wait to try it! ❤
It's so good!
The biggest problem I had as a new young cook was arranging my time so that everything being served was ready at the same time.
Love this idea of the crust for real coconut cream pie 🥧 😋
Me too!!
Yes, cooking classes for all of us. A lot of the basics. Would love to learn how to season meats and vegetables.
I absolutely do think there is a need for our young people to learn all kinds of things. Somewhere the ball got dropped and it's time to pick it up again .
Good for you Vicki
God bless you and yours
Yeah for you for the cooking class! Our young folks need these lessons from one who loves to cook.I will send lesson ideas after I have time to mull them over. Thank you for this class.
thank you so much I am excited and a little nervous
I gotta try this! Looks so good!
Hope you enjoy
love your cabinets.
Thank you
Wow cool trick with yokes!
I thought so too
A quick, simple breakfast, lunch, and dinner.Delicious easy but very yummy.
And a full proof dessert.
thx
Quick and Tasty cooking for beginners from start to finish.
Thank you so much 🙂
That does look good. Something for a busy family on the go. 💖💖💖

They look so good, you family is lovely 💜🇨🇦💜
aw thank you
I just found your channel 🌸
And you instantly made me feel better...it's like you were talking just to me and I made a new friend!
I must think about what tittle to come up with for new cook's, and yes I cannot wait to try this recipe for a summer evening dessert 🍰
Thank you for sharing this and thank you for making my day 🌹 ever since covid, I have felt down and sad...stressed out from the prices at the grocery store and like most people, it's tough to pay rent, make affordable meals etc.....
Please be kind, because you never know what someone is going through...
Wishing everyone a wonderful day 🙏 🌹
aw thank you so much for your words - i am glad we are friends! God bless
Totally agree with home economics. Vickie you need stand mixer and beat your egg whites and do something else 😉. Totally envy your kitchen.
Yes and i would love one. Problem is....they take up a lot of kitchen space. With an air fryer, blender, food proccessor, toaster, microwave, etc...i am out of space.
Yes! Thank you!
Yum yum!! I always fed my dogs raw egg yolks... amazing shiny fur & healthy dogs. Thank-you! Much love to all!❤️🇨🇦
That's awesome idea so many people need a cooking class I like to cook but always learn new things from watching others cook and have learned it's really important to follow a recipe to the T
thank you
Basic utensils for the new cooks kitchen. Would be a good place to start. Measurement charts are really handy. This is a wonderful idea. Ritz bars looks delicious. Thank you!,
Great idea!
I will definitely try this recipe, I’ve never seen anything like it. It sounds yummy.
Your idea for newlyweds & just starters is fabulous! 🌺These are some ideas from my experience. In 1973 when I got married I had no idea how to set up a kitchen. What ingredients needed to bake & cook with. And when cooking how they work together for favor. All I knew how to do was bake simple. I didn’t know the difference between soy sauce and Worcestershire 😵💫or why an onion & green pepper was important to flavor. I had a cookbook for baking but not for cooking. You know books were the how to back then.
For first course I would definitely do the basics as another viewer stated (what to always have in your pantry, how to wash produce and store properly, measuring ingredients, cutting, kitchen safety). I used to struggle with knowing when meat was fully cooked so that would be good. Also, just "real" meals. Simple, budget friendly meals and teaching them how to meal plan. Definitely more than one course for sure.
Start with basics and move all the way up to gardening and canning! Love it! Wish you the best of luck.
Tried and True recipies is a good name, i have taught cooking classes in a privet school and still do teach classes but on hold right now till i get a bigger place
Saw this recipe video pop up. I subscribed! Already shared the egg trick to my daughters and niece.
Awesome! Thank you!
Something i would like to see would be really economical meals... something to fix when the cupboards are nearly bare. Maybe the most versatile spices to have on to make that 'bare cupboard' meal just a little better. How to put away basic ingredients for just such an emergency, how to stretch a dish just a little more, (to feed an extra person).
Also, how to measure...the difference between a 'teaspoon' and a measuring 'teaspoon', and why it matters.
Lots more ideas, but that's a good start!
I love your plan!! So many ways to go!!
Your colt is so beautiful. Thank you.
Ideas: Cooking Terms, basic tools, substitutions if you don't have something, (for me - substitutions for alcohol in recipes), how to do basic meal planning, some simple menus for different scenarios. 15 minute meals
I always said - if you can read you can cook! But I’m amazed how many young brides do not know cooking terms such as sauté or even know how to ‘fold’ an ingredient instead of stirring it and what is the difference. Also I’ve had girls say they’ve never made a roast of any kind. They use hamburger dozens of different ways but can’t make a beef roast or pork roast. Go for it girl❤️
so true and thx im excited to do this
Also keep egg shells for garden. I took Home Economics in Gr 8, 9 in Victoria, BC. It didnt exist in Ontario where our family moved to when dad was transferred to in 1969/1970,
This generation love to spend lots of time with their friends, so maybe some quick entertaining appetizers, casual, no fuss recipes. They love the casual vibe, with not too much work.
What would be the point, the point is to learn how to cook well rounded meals, appetizers aren’t meals! If something is no fuss, then, no one’s going to learn nothing! 18:16
Why do we need to edit things to please our youth? 🤨
Start with fast any easy dishes. Simple but tasty. You have a great ideal.🎉
Thank you so much 😊
So think one of the basics would be what kind of tools, pans, and stand alone cookers and good to start with.
Poppa looks happy with this on. He knows these are not going to make it to the refrigerator. I thinks more the casserole and chili will do. This quick and easy one is great. How to make small cheeseboard for snacks, quick sandwich organizing skills. All the food ready for ham sandwiches for instant.
great ideas
I think you’ve got a great idea! There’s a lot of young people that could benefit from some beginner advice. One thing should be about basic things you should have in your kitchen. And also about how important having sharp knives is. That sort of thing. Good luck with your idea! This recipe looks great!
Yummy ❤ thank you 😊 ❤
thank you for watching
Great idea to start a cooking class for young people!!!
I think so too!
There is definitely a need for your learning how class. Wish I’d had one when I first started out. 😊
thanks so much I am excited about doing this and a little nervous
I’m definitely going to try this recipe tonight. I subscribed to your husbands channel and watched a few. I love horses. I will send you a recipe that I won #1 a dessert challenge at our school.
I can hear your peacock in the background. Just found your channel and plan on looking up your farm channel also. I can cook but there are always new ways to learn to do things ( like the water bottle/egg yolk trick) and new recipes to try. Definitely going to try this one for our next family get-together!
Awesome! Thank you!
Yes to the cooking class.Would be nice if you could do a whole meal . Maybe a different part of the meal each video and the end with the whole meal in its entirety.
The cracker bars look great but you should have stirred the coconut while toasting.
thank you. great ideas. and thx for the coconut tip!!
I would love to see a cooking course! My mother never let me cook while I was growing up, because she said it was too "fussy." I don't have sisters, so I had to kind of learn on my own through the years. I think it would be good for new cooks to learn how to roast a turkey and how to fix a good beef roast. Then follow it up with classes on how to put together a simple Thanksgiving dinner, a Christmas meal, etc. I can't wait to see what you put together!
I think there is s need for teaching ppl to cook because some ppl don’t know a thing about cooking. It will help them so much
thanks. i'm excited
Planning meals and shopping list for the week
How to grocery shop and what to keep on hand so you can make a meal and have what you need. I’ve been married for 33 years and still sometimes struggle with that.
Meal planning and grocery shopping. Maybe a cookbook with shopping tips for later😊.
Sounds good!
Enjoyed your video. My favorite recipe is buttermilk candy. My mother gave me a batch each Christmas. I'd loved to see your version.
i love that. I need to have my mother in law help me sometime and share
Yes! It was fun , so much fun outside on the farm!
thank you for joining me
I think that is a great idea. Our young people need to learn to cook. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Breakfast everyone needs that !
😂
👋 Sounds yummy!
It was!
Beginner Cooking with Quick and Tasty on the Farm.
Making those shaky first meals and yummy desserts easier ! And remember..if you make a mess .. YAYYYY you're trying !
good point
I'm so glad I found you! I think your idea is awesome! One thing I never learned until lately was that there are recipe formulas for the 5 mother sauces. 1. Roux/dairy 2. Roux/white sauce 3. Roux/brown sauce 4. Roux/ tomato Italian 5. Hollandaise/melted butter/acid.
I would love to see examples of each sauce in a meal. It would've really helped me when I was first married.
great idea - i need to study up on this
My grandkids learn in 4-h even table setting
These days groceries are expensive but it is also one of the few bills you have any control over. Learning how to make thrifty healthy meals is needed. Convenience foods are more expensive than just cooking from scratch. I cook up a big pkg of chicken breasts and dice it up for the freezer. I can add to an alfredo sauce, spaghetti sauce, saute with some veggies and serve over rice. Even thaw and make chicken salad. I also brown ground beef with onions and freeze. Then i can toss some in a sauce for spaghetti or a casserole. It thaws in the microwave in a minute or two, instead of trying to thaw a brick of raw meat.
Yes, there is a need to help young people to learn how to cook. When I was in school we had Home economics I appsolutely loved it we would make cookies, cakes and take around to the trachers but luckily I already knew how to cook. I started cooking at 7 years old I would start cooking then when mama got home everything was almost done.
Name of cook book:
* Help me to cook *
* Teach me to cook *
* Measure with love & hope * ❤️
Love your show and love your farm. I was raised up on a farm.
Thank you, Edwyna from Georgia
Great idea, I personally would start with basic tools/cookware needed in the kitchen for beginner cooks.
Great idea!
That’s a great idea the cooking course
thanks i am excited about it
And WHO'S MAKING THAT BIG DINNER😮 ,those tough firsts ! youll make it ❤
❤️
Pantry staples, how to plan menus and shop for the week.
New to your channel, love it!
thank you. and yay we spell our name the same ❤️❤️❤️
Channel name suggestion- Quick and Tasty for Absolute Begginers.
Course suggestions would start with Bare Necessities - basic utensils you need to start with. Then a course on terms. ( my daughter said a woman she worked with didn't know what saute meant, or what sweat the onions meant. That sort of thing)Then, a course on eggs. Maybe a course on meats. Like recommended temps, styles of cooking, how to tell if it's cooked to rare, medium, etc. Then on to veggies. Finally desserts. I'm sure you will be a wonderful teacher, however you decide to set up your class.
such great ideas thank you for sharing
You need to teach meal planning and easy crock pot meals that they can throw together in the morning and it will be done when they get home from work.
Great idea
I think it is a wonderful idea. Mac and Cheese should be one of the first recipes to make. Casseroles are good because then, they can take it for their lunch during the week. You can do that and have them put it in two different casseroles dishes. One for supper and one for the freezer type deal.
