The CX-90 Turbo Premium Plus is also just over $50K so would be a closer price comparison to the Honda. The Premium Plus adds power folding mirrors, a 360 camera, heated and ventilated front seats, heated center row captain's chairs and a heated steering wheel. The seats are upgraded to Nappa leather, the gauge cluster is upgraded to a 12.3-inch digital display and the infotainment is now a 12.3-inch screen as well. A 110-watt power outlet and 12-volt outlet are in the rear cargo area.

My comparison isn't apples to apples with the new 2025 Honda Pilot, but I test drove the 2024 CX-90, and....
We have a 2020 Honda Pilot and a 2024 Mazda CX30 for a small commuter car - I also use the CX30 as my canoe hauler. Infotainment system wise, I love the Mazda controls - really dislike the touch screen now. So much easier and more efficient to use the Mazda controllers to scroll/rip through the menus and CarPlay apps than using a touch screen.
Interior-wise, Mazda's fit and finish is fantastic. The driver and front passenger seats feel cozy. kinda "fits like a glove" really describes the driver seat. Love the captains chairs in the second row. Third row doesn't feel like an entire afterthought. Storage in the back feels like it has a bit less volume than the Pilot. Storage felt much worse in the CX-9 than the CX-90. I actually prefer the standard sound system in the Mazda over the Bose - Music feels cleaner, more detailed and balanced. But I'm not a bass-head, so YMMV.
Pilot feels big and roomy, kinda cavernous. Not a bad thing - just different. The interior feels more utilitarian. A ton of room in the second row, third row still feels cramped. Storage space in the back feels a bit wider - great if you're bringing a dog kennel along, or packing for a few weeks at a cabin for a family of four. You can pack for a two week get away in the Mazda, but it looks like it'll be a bit tighter - just need to pack better. The Pilot sound system is solid, no complaints. I do prefer the standard sound system in the Mazda.
Getting into traffic on the interstate going through a cloverleaf onramp, the Mazda CX-90 just grabs the road and hugs the curves. Very little if any body roll. It's effortless getting up to speed with the flow of traffic (which is around 80 mph in SE Wisconsin). The Pilot feels like it's going to roll over, so really have to wait to step on the gas, and even then the Pilot V6 is sluggish in comparison. ...but that's the 2020 Pilot - the 2025 Pilot v6 might have a bit more guts than it used to. Passing acceleration, the 2020 Pilot V6 is a dog. Just doesn't want to be pushed hard - the 2025 Pilot may have improved upon this. The CX-90 responds instantly, and really gets up and goes effortlessly.
Heading over to TheTopher's YT Channel to check out his 2024 or 2025 Pilot test drive.

Once you use a knob for infotainment, there is no going back. I have a Turbo s CX90. Despite the cup holders, I absolutely love it.

I narrowed it down to these two 3 rows back in July. I ultimately chose the CX-90. The inline six is an awesome engine and has plenty of power. I personally like the look of the CX-90. Once you notice the odd crooked location of the rear windows of the Pilot you won't be able to un-see it. Mazda was offering 1.9 APR and Honda was 4.9 APR, so Mazda won there!

Mazda is definitely smaller in all seats, specially the third row. I had to shove myself in third row. Honda third row is much bigger, and it was so comfortable, we test drove both as loaner, I sat in pilots third row for 5 hrs trip and no problems (6ft) don’t go with the specs, try sitting and you’ll notice a huge difference. Plus the trunk space behind the third row is bigger in pilot marginally.
