Start downloading whatever you need then go to network settings. And stay on the bandwidth usage page. On the top left it’ll tell you how fast you’re downloading. If you leave the page the speed drops again.

DNS (lookup the IP of a domain name) will have zero effect on download speed. It's not your gateway. Any perceived before/after change is just natural variance. You're better off optimizing router settings.
Angel Martinez lies I was doing this shit using the same DNS he used and it didn’t do fuck all. Sure sometimes it showed faster in the detailed statistics, but actually watch a game download and watch what your Mbps bounces between. You’ll soon realize it it’s literally such a minuscule change, and sometimes even slower..

At the very least use a CAT 6 CABLE, and if your console is a couple years old , open it and clean out the dust. If possible, replace the CPU thermal paste too. A cool running system helps tremendously.

My issue is, my download speed showing up within the settings of the console is greatly higher than what is actually shown when downloading games. I get 220+ mbps in the settings app, but when downloading games I get less than 100, sometimes as low as 20 or 30. The speed also jumps all over the place, going from 5 mbps to 90 to 30 etc. Ive tried everything such as port forwarding and reseting the console/changing dns, along with everything else in the troubleshoot guide on microsoft and 3 hour phone call i had with microsoft support. I cant seem to get an answer.
When you run a speed test on your Xbox. You are connecting to one server.when you download a game you are connecting to a different server with hundreds of other users downloading stuff at the same time on the same server. So I'd say your console is 100 percent capable of downloading at what the test shows. However your game downloads are limited by the server side and how busy that server is at the time of your download. Hope this helps.
PS4 USERS::: It's the same general idea. It's just changing your DNS and making sure you have a wired connection. Just follow the video and do the same thing on your Ps4. Same difference

Guys I live in Orlando, Florida in the US. Something a bit weird is that even though I live in the US, the US DNS numbers gave me a speed of between 40 and 50 mb/s. I tried the Europe DNS settings and they gave me between 110 and 160 mb/s.
Since upgrading to a one X I don’t seem to be able to use a wired connection. Worked perfectly fine on my original Xbox one but for some reason the one x won’t work with a wired connection :(

i copied the secondary dns that was right for you and it worked a lot better than the secondary dns that you gave us and keep in mind i live in arizona and i think you said you live the uk so some how it worked better
Do you use a wireless headset? I had the same issue, but moved my wireless headsets ‘base’ from the top of my Xbox, to the side of it... it complexity fixed my connection issues! It has something to do with interference.
I got an cat6 Ethernet cable to have a wired connection and my statistics dropped a lot, on wifi my download speed was 11.19, upload was .76, latency was 137ms and on wired connection my download speed is 8.59, latency stayed the same and upload is .87?

Thats just ping to the xbox live servers after you load a game you have to take into account those 33ms plus whatever it will take for you to reach the games servers afterwards. So 33ms is good but not in game ping

I have a question, I ran the benchmark, the fastest server for dns has a 4 digit address for the first number, I can not enter a 4 digit dns number what am I seeing wrong here? It says, Primary Server 2001:470:20::2 Hurricane Electric IPv6 Secondary Server 68.87.71.226 Comcast Chelmsford Opt-Out US Tertiary Server 129.250.35.250 It says it is 59% faster than my current set up, but I dont see how I can actually use it. How can I enter that 2001.470...address, it shows it as the primary server, then under it is shows secondary and tertiary, which are both normal looking 3 digit addresses, but I am not sure why it shows the first one if I cant use it or cant enter it in the space in the settings. Do I just use the 2nd and tertiary?
Thats a ip6 and you need ip4 addresses, not sure if you can get an ip4 address of that server. You can search on internet how to convert ipv6 to a hostname and then how to ping the hostname with a ipv4 result. I'm not behind my laptop so I cant give you the commands, because I dont know them exactly out the top of my head

2 years later you'll finally get the answer. Consoles just have bad optimization when it comes to wifi speeds.

The only way to make my games download faster, i just press quit on the game im on and it downloads at 200mbps to 100mbps went from 9 hours to 1 hour
The main reason for that is because the game is downloading onto the same drive the other game is running from.

I'm from the US so maybe our xbox displays look different and also I don't know what Subnet Mask is *or where to look for the right US number thing settings* Does that mean its the (Secondary) DNS numbers?

replying to my own comment but hey ho, so I downloaded all ok however cannot open the folder as is 32bit and not 64bit with the Catalina update recently? as now the software you are using is now dated. hope this helps others

i copied the secondary dns that was right for you and it worked a lot better than the secondary dns that you gave us and keep in mind i live in arizona and i think you said you live the uk so some how it worked better
Wow my download speed was 26 mbs now its 48.38. Ms was around the 120 now its 26. Upload speed was like 1.25 mbps now it's 3.21. For us server

No! Dns on xbox doesn't have any effects on router. It just makes change on the xbox itself

Do you use a wireless headset? I had the same issue, but moved my wireless headsets ‘base’ from the top of my Xbox, to the side of it... it complexity fixed my connection issues!

I got an cat6 Ethernet cable to have a wired connection and my statistics dropped a lot, on wifi my download speed was 11.19, upload was .76, latency was 137ms and on wired connection my download speed is 8.59, latency stayed the same and upload is .87?

I live in north east of US. It’s kinda hard to find best DNS location .. will those 8888 and 8844 work for my area do you think? I can’t run wires at the moment and I keep getting 1% packet loss with 76 ping which is much higher than I’m used too.. download and upload speeds is low also but high enough for multiplayer gaming..

Thats just ping to the xbox live servers after you load a game you have to take into account those 33ms plus whatever it will take for you to reach the games servers afterwards. So 33ms is good but not in game ping

My download speeds and upload sleeps are great. 380mps upload and 45mps download. But every time I get into a game it’s kicks me out of it. I don’t lag for the first 5 minutes and then I’ll just get kicked. Any idea what’s going on?

Can you help me I live in UK and my xbox one s doesn't allow me to download 360 games and original games even though Microsoft say to me I can dogtally download them I can't it has a red band through them on the store and says your region doesn't allow them to be downloaded I'm in UK and they keep saying to me migrate your region but I do that even on my Microsoft account it doesn't allow me to, I can't download any 360 or original games at all it has a red band on in every game

I have tried every setting that there is I have also contacted other gamers and Microsoft themselves and I still cannot get my download speed above 90mbps. I currently have 1GB Internet and according to my service provider I should be getting anywhere from 800 to 950mbps. I am wired in and my other devices that are using wifi get better download speed than my wired Xbox is getting. Any thoughts?

I have a question, I ran the benchmark, the fastest server for dns has a 4 digit address for the first number, I can not enter a 4 digit dns number what am I seeing wrong here?

It says it is 59% faster than my current set up, but I dont see how I can actually use it.
How can I enter that 2001.470...address, it shows it as the primary server, then under it is shows secondary and tertiary, which are both normal looking 3 digit addresses, but I am not sure why it shows the first one if I cant use it or cant enter it in the space in the settings.
Do I just use the 2nd and tertiary?
Thats a ip6 and you need ip4 addresses, not sure if you can get an ip4 address of that server.
You can search on internet how to convert ipv6 to a hostname and then how to ping the hostname with a ipv4 result.
I'm not behind my laptop so I cant give you the commands, because I dont know them exactly out the top of my head

From 200kbps to 401kbps i mean... My connection is not bad my RUclips on xbox one randomly started playing videos 400kbps then 11000 kbps again then 400 again 100kbps etc confusing me (normally it was like 10000 loading 4k Videos instantly now i can't even play 144p videos)
