Thanks for acknowledging Jory..hardly anyone ever does, let alone remembers his name..another thing often missed is the foreshadowing in the convo that Jamie and Jory had in the hall..they talked about a battle they were both at and Jamie asked about the scar near his eye..Jory almost lost his eye that day..then he goes out by Jamie's hand the way he did..right through the eye..just goes to show how no words are wasted in this show, especially in these early seasons..

The main thing with Ned is that he isn't content doing nothing, he just doesn't want to murder two children. Danearys is a child. The baby is a child - and he can't, because he's principled, bring himself to murder them
It's not that Ned doesn't think the Dothraki can't come across the Narrow Sea. It's that he has a thing against murdering children (Dany is 13 in the books but had to be aged up because HBO wanted to show her naked and child porn is against the law). He's very disappointed to find out Robert will kill children, they had fought about it once before when Robert took King's Landing, Prince Rhaegar's children (he was Viserys and Dany's old brother) were murdered. Ned has personal reasons for feeling this way which I will not spoil.
The issue is that Ned is just happy to do nothing. Fair enough that he doesnt want to kill children, but he doesnt seem to want to do ANYTHING about it.
i mean the Dothraki are nomadic tribes living on the great planes in the middle of the neighbouring continent pillaging the borderings towns and Kingdoms, they dont work with wood, they dont build ships, they cant sail and they dont like water. But dothraki with a determined Targaryen ofspring at the head might someday become a problem.... Stil given these facts its kinda a distant issue for Ned, who thinks there are more pressing problems at hand rn. Anyway, loved your LotR reactions, and now im sticking around for GoT. My son devoured the books and really wanted me to read them too, so I've finally now started reading the first book and enjoying it.
Go back to the joust between Ser Loras and the Mountain. Note when the two present themselves to the king how the Mountain's stallion is acting. Loras' mare is in heat causing the stallion to act unruly. For not responding to the Mountain's horsemanship commands and dumping Clegane on the ground, the penalty is death. It's in his character of being someone who would push his younger brother's face into a burning brazer.

Its easy to say "just have her killed" because it's a tv show and there are no real stakes to you, but if you were really in Neds situation I don't think ordering the assassination of an innocent pregnant woman is an easy decision to make. Robert may not have ordered the killing of those babies, but he was not opposed to it when their bodies were laid at the foot of the Iron Throne. Ned wanted no part of it, and this influenced his choices after [spoiler redaction] as well.
Two great dialog scenes this episode. Lord Varys and Lord Baelish with their "verbal duel". Then we have King Robert and Queen Cersei and their honest conversation. I wasn't clear but it sounded like you caught that Ser Loras cheated in the joust by using a mare in heat to disrupt the stallion used by the Mountain.

They did. His Armour is put on wrong intentionally and the Mountain is told to hit him in the neck. The mountain is pretty talented not just a brute like in the show.
