My husband of 32 years and i considered The Eagles our band...Hotel California best song ever. My husband passed away 2 yrs ago...thanks for playing this.
About five years ago, I went to a Don Felder/Stix concert. Tommy Shaw came out and played the solo to this song with Don. That was my best Rock concert experience ever! I knew I witnessed something that would never happen again. So precious.
@@susandean5622 hi Susan, I’m so glad you got to experience that, it’s awesome. I’m not taking anything away from Joe Walsh but I always felt Don never really got all the credit he deserved. I always admired his talent. Thanks for your comment. ✌🏻
Hey Shon, I was in that audience when they filmed this song😃...........It couldn't have turned out any better if they had recorded this song in the studio; in fact I believe the audience brought out the best in the Eagles 🔥🎸 (plus NO auto-tune, AI, or other tricks). All of the songs were written by the band members, & they always told a story (& you could understand the lyrics). My favorite band & song of that era ❤🔥
Saw them 3 times. Perfect every time, but I must say I love the one when Joe Walsh put the yellow helmet on his head that had a camera, and he pointed at the crowd & It would show them on the big screen as he played, It was the coolest! Joe was always the fun one 😃
They truly are amazing live. Even when I saw them when in their 60s, they still absolutely killed it. Even the last song after 3 hours of playing (mostly on the drums) Don still hit every note of Desperado pitch perfect with power and conviction..... in his 60s..... To think there were some 'critics' saying they sounded 'too' perfect' live....
My best friend died when we were 16, almost 30 years ago. Take It To The Limit was his favorite song and his parents had it played at his funeral. I still have to choke back the tears whenever I hear it.
You always pick up on lyrics that are important. Thanks for that. There is no bad Eagles song. The guitarist in the red bandanna is Joe Walsh. You have to check him out. Thanks for your interpretations!
The smile/joy on his face while playing says it all. But we smile just as much when he plays. This song was really my first song I learnt on guitar, my teacher asked me what song, this was my pick. He said wow, not an easy song, strum or pick, I said BOTH.He chuckled! Classic, epic time piece!
The drummer/singer is Don Henley. He also went solo and sings one of my favorite songs (Don Henley "BOYS OF SUMMER"); and the acoustic guitar player is Glenn Frey, who also went solo and sings another of my favorite songs ever with the most incredible saxophone in it EVER! (Glenn Frey "YOU BELONG TO THE CITY"). Check out both of these original videos. You'll LOVE them. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Boys Of Summer is also my all time favorite song. Every time I hear it, it brings me right back to where I was in life when it came out……a lifetime ago!
and the guitarist with the red bandana is joe walsh, and he already had a solo career before he joined the eagles, and continued to record solo albums when the other two went solo. he had a few of my favorite songs (funk #49, rocky mountain way, walk away, life's been good, life of illusion, turn to stone, ordinary average guy, the confessor). but he also wrote or co-wrote some of the eagles' hits like life in the fast lane, in the city, all night long, pretty maids all in a row, and sad cafe). oh and he also played guitar on don henley's solo hit "dirty laundry.
Same, plus the line "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave" can be about a person going to rehab and getting sober but that person will face difficult and stressful moments that brings them to crave their old substances
Don Felder plays the double neck. Joe Walsh plays the 2nd lead. Each of them are masters in their own right, but together they are incomparable. This is truly a masterpiece. Musically, this song has a definite Spanish flavor. Lyrically, I always thought of a lone rider, way out in the SoCal desert at dusk, riding into The Twilight Zone.
There are many interpretations of the meaning of the text. Personally, I think these methaphoric lyrics most likely reflect the California-centric American dream that draws fortune-seeking aspirants to Hollywood, from which they (usually) can never escape, even if they check out when things don't work out as desired... Masterpiece! All best from Germany and a happy new year to you!
Dude, your reactions are fire. I'm 58 and you are one of the most authentic, young reactors I've ever seen. Keep up the great work! You are wise beyond your years.
I actually used to think this song was about a man who got into a car crash and wound up in purgatory. "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light" would be him driving into the headlights of another car, then "My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night" would be him dying. "This could be heaven or this could be hell" is him wondering where he wound up, "we are prisoners here of our own device" and "you can never leave" hinting at the nature of where he is. Even though I've since learned the intention was that the song is based on the celebrity industry, I still love my own interpretation of it lol
"Tumbleweed desert type of feel to it". Wow! what a great description of a song I have listened to 10's of thousands of time by now. Your reactions continue to be worth watching!!! Great insights as your journey to raise your consciousness manifests before all of our eyes!!!!!
In my opinion THIS is the signature song of this band. Others may differ, but when I hear mention of the Eagles this is the first thing that comes to mind.
the best way to listen to this song is to sit in your fav recliner, get your fav drink or vape, lie back, close your eyes and let the Hotel California vibe wash over you, then follow up with "Witchy Woman".
The music to this song was written by Don Felder (on that Gibson double neck in the video) on a 12 string guitar. Then he and Joe Walsh (on the tele) put together the duet guitar parts. Don Henley (drummer) wrote most of thevlyrics with colaboration from Glenn Frey (12 string acoustic). The lyrics were written separately while Walsh and Felder hung around shooting pool and chilling out. Felder actually had to re-write/transpose the music in 3 different keys to match up with Henley's vocal range to get it right. The two electric solos aren't really a duel but a call and answer duet that blends so perfectly it is other-worldly. If this version blew you away, check out the acoustic version from the Hell Freezes Over tour opener in New York in 1994. Its on a whole other level where Henley only sings (with some hand held percussion bits) while another drummer handkes the kit. Timothy B Schmidt (who replaced Randy Meisner mid '77 tour) uses an electric bass but all other guitar parts are acoustic (Felder and Walsh on 6 string, Frey on a 12). Some additional percussion lends to the Spanish flavor of the mostly "unplugged" performance and it fits perfectly with the song's story that Henley so magically told. How do I tell you I'm a huge Eagles fan without saying it in so many words? 😁
Phil Collins is another badass lead singer/drummer combo. 🙌. He was in the band Genesis and also had an incredible solo career. Enjoy that rabbit hole!!!! ❤ (start with the song "In the air tonight". 🔥🔥
It really speaks to someone who lived the decadence of the seventies through their university years in SoCal. Left physically to live in the PNW - "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave..." mentally.
I don't know how young you are, but I love your reactions. I always hit the like button before the reaction. I was a teenager when this iconic album came out, I remember one of my bestie's mom telling her, "do you know that a colita is a dead body"? It really meant weed, lol my friend told her mom, "so what." I saw The Eagles in '78 in NY. Fantastic!!! What a time it was to be a teenager (the 70's)!!!
The Cap Center in Landover, MD., May 1977. Me and my wife of now 59 years were in the upper deck looking right down at them do this concert. They did two back-to-back dates, and we attended the night Linda Ronstadt was the opening act. It was beyond perfect. I knew the Felder, (who wrote the music), & Walsh guitar jam would blow your mind, as it still does mine.
In Oct. of '77, at the old Chicago Stadium, I was fortunate enough to see/hear this configuration of the band. -- 3 of the 4 original members ( Bernie Leadon, the banjo-picker, had left by then, & Randy Meisner, the late bass player, who would leave at the end of the tour), plus Don "Fingers" Felder ( the double -neck guitar player), & Joe Walsh ( previously from the James Gang). It was the first time i had heard "Hotel California" ; don't think i'll ever forget it.
@beatleschick1000 Yeah, probably the best, but I miss Bernie's 'country-rock contribution to their sound, like his 5-string playing during the last minute or so of the original recording of "Take it Easy", or his vocals on tracks like: "Train Leaves Here This Morning".
Joe Walsh (Red Bandana) is one of my favorite artists. Check him out solo in "Life's Been Good" & "Rocky Mountain Way". The guy could party his ass off, slightly insane, & is definitely one hell of a guitarist. His Eagle bandmate Glenn Fry one called Joe "an interesting bunch of guys." That about sums Joe up 😂
There is a video out there, when Stevie Ray Vaughn is playing such a double neck guitar with his brother Jimmy. Both Brothers on one instrument same time . incredible talents both. The back standing cannot even see the instrument, wrapping his arms around his brother.
We loss the beautiful bassist Randy Meissner last year. You should react to him singing 'Take It To The Limit', it's simply amazing. It's my most favorite song from the Eagles Also check out ......... 'New Kid In Town, Lyin' Eyes, I Can't Tell You Why, Best Of My Love, Take It Easy, Heartache Tonight, One Of These Nights, In The City, Desperado and Life In The Fast Lane' These are my favorite songs from this amazing band!
I loved Randy Meisner so much! Always my favorite eagle. Not just talent, but everything I heard him say or written about him, he was the nicest guy around in the 70s rock world. Very humble and shy, which ended up making him leave the band when he didn’t feel he could hit that last high note for every concert on take it to the limit, and Glenn Frey bullied him till they fist fought, and Randy quit. RIP dear man.
@@beatleschick1000 ....... I'll be honest here! Because I was a little girl, when I first heard 'Take It To The Limits', I knew who the Eagles were, just didn't know who was singing or any of the band members were. It was years later when I discovered Glen, Don and Joe, and that they were part of the band. It wasn't until I discovered the wonders of youtube and found the video and that's when I found out that it somebody else singing!...lol... Which made me fall in love with the song even more! Randy just made the song even more special. I saw the Reels 'Breaking The Band' and was very disappointed in the way Glen and Don, mistreated both Randy and Don Fielder (did I spell his last name right?). Just downright disappointed in them! 'Take It To The Limits' will always and forever be Randy's song!!!
My interpretation is california is so unique when you come to visit or stay for awhile you cant leave l came out here in 76 and im still here in hotel california
“Some dance to remember and some dance to forget,” is one of my favorite lines in this song. I KNEW Shon would pick up on it! Literally no reactors to this song found this line to be profound, like I had! Niiice! 🙌👌👏🫶
Sometimes when we think about heaven and hell, we think literal clouds or fire, but until we feel that dread deep-down, that true regret that haunts us at our very core, we really don't know what it's like to be trapped in hell. I love that Hotel California is about whatever you need it to be about. It can be about addiction or about a brothel or about infidelity and it works, no matter what. The human soul knows how it feels to be bad, and it can feel good, until it comes time for it to be over, then we have to pay the check. That feeling of existential pleasure and dread at knowing that you can never take back what you just did, it's forever haunting and it's the story of all of our lives. I love this song so much.
This song, for anyone wondering, is all about life in the fast lane, as a rock star. Touring, drugs, alcohol, different women every night, throwing themselves at you. The heaven, or hell part is basically explaining how when your trying to make it, the life style looks so inviting, but when you get there, its exhausting burnout, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, STD's, women trying to trap you. The rock and roll lifestyle has been the ruin, and even death of a lot of talented stars over the decades.
They also have solo careers. Don Henley’s (drummer) Actual Miles is excellent. Glenn Frey’s “the one you love, “smugglers blues”, the heat is on”, and “you belong to the city”.
LOL...I love it. Shon you are explaining the meaning of a song that was produced in 1977! I know that you are talking to many of your bros, but you have to realize that there are a bunch of us that were raised on this band
I never tire of watching people react to this for the first time. It just never gets old. This has to be one of the top five songs of all time! Joe Walsh is a guitar God! 🌺✌️
You just did a reaction to Jackson Browne. He is closely associated with The Eagles, particularly in the early years of their careers. One of the most significant connections between Jackson Browne and the Eagles is the song "Take It Easy," which became one of the Eagles' signature hits. In the early 1970s, Jackson Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy" with Glenn Frey, a founding member of the Eagles. The story goes that Browne had written a portion of the song but was having difficulty completing it. Frey heard what Browne had and suggested some changes to the lyrics, leading to the completion of the song. "Take It Easy" was released on the Eagles' debut album in 1972, and it became a major hit, reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This success helped launch the Eagles' career, and the song remains one of their most iconic tracks. While this collaboration is one of the most well-known instances of Jackson Browne's interaction with the Eagles, it's worth noting that Browne and members of the Eagles maintained a friendly relationship over the years, with occasional collaborations and performances together. Their connection through "Take It Easy" is a significant part of both artists' musical histories.
The Eagles are an iconic band from the ‘70’s into 80’s. Multiple member wrote songs and sang lead so they have a big variety of sound. Lots of great songs from this band! Well worth listening to more!
Your reactions are spot on! You described the meaning of Hotel California better than anyone ever has! I'm 66 and saw The Eagles back in the late 70's and the first thing I did was buy the Eagles Album, which I still have and play. We lost one of founders of The Eagles, Glenn Frey in 2016. RIP Glenn.Don Henley, the drummer is singing but every single one of them were lead singers. The guitar solo with Felder & Joe Walsh is the best ever done.
The Eagles are as perfect as you can get.No singing out of tune.No guitars out of tune. The dynamics are always right. No mistakes to be heard.Almost as if you're listening to the album.
The two guys are devil of guitars...the way they play is wowwww..really will really bums up who ever listen them playing...great song n fantastic band...
Eagles are fantastic. Great list of songs they have. Seven Bridges Road, Desperado, Take it to the Limit, Wasted Time. Can't go wrong with any of these being next.
You are a very perspective listener of music! Us oldies who were listening to this back in the seventies were so lucky to have so much good music around! The lyrics of the Eagles songs were so clever and insightful.
Possibly the greatest song in rock history. I never get sick of this song, no matter how many times I hear it. Musically it’s off the charts. Lyrically, it’s a masterpiece, and the story can mean a lot of things for different people. I think The Eagles intent that is was meant to be about the music corporation in the Los Angeles area. To add further the lifestyle of Hollywood, and its surroundings. The parties, the boozing and schmoozing, the women, the cars, the drugs, and all of that superficial lifestyle. The Eagles were there living it in the 70’s & 80’s. Also I get a feeling of Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu. All the parties in the beach cities, and rich homes.
Thank you sir for helping bridge a generational gap of music, I grew up on some of the music you react to, it is so refreshing to see a younger audience discover and enjoy the same music I grew up on!! So Thank You for doing what you do!
all time classic! ♥ BTW - it's definitely about drug addiction I suggest these Eagles songs: Long Run, Life in the Fastlane, Victim of Love, Witchy Woman, One of These Nites & I Can't Tell You Why
Actually it was written about an old Twilight Zone episode that was never aired due to its creepy content. The title was "The Hollywood Tower Hotel" Look it up great story.
My all time favorite band, I have my dad to thank for that!! They have so many great albums and songs! Don Henley who sings and plays drums, happens to be my favorite Eagle! His solo stuff is amazing too!! This reaction got me hyped for their upcoming show later this month!! It’ll be my 4th time seeing them!! The line “they stab it with their steely knives…” is a nod to the band Steely Dan, who is opening for them!!

The thing to remember about The Eagles is that they have 3 greatest hits albums. Not 1 not 2 but 3
Technically they produced 7 full albums and a live album, so I would say they have 11 greatest hits albums.
If it weren't for the smallest of purposeful dynamics changes in this performance, it would be difficult to tell it from the studio version. Flawless.
there are also a couple minor changes to the ending guitar solos.

Joe Walsh (Red Bandana) is one of my favorite artists. Check him out solo in "Life's Been Good" & "Rocky Mountain Way". The guy could party his ass off, slightly insane, & is definitely one hell of a guitarist. His Eagle bandmate Glenn Fry one called Joe "an interesting bunch of guys." That about sums Joe up 😂
And don’t forget ‘Walk Away’ from when Joe Walsh had the James Gang.
There is a video out there, when Stevie Ray Vaughn is playing such a double neck guitar with his brother Jimmy. Both Brothers on one instrument same time . incredible talents both. The back standing cannot even see the instrument, wrapping his arms around his brother.
These are my generation the best music!
Everything about this song is perfection 🔥🎯💯 Don’t forget Phil Collins as drummer & singer also.
Don Henley
@@BigOz517 yes, I know. I was referring to the fact when he said he didn’t know others who were the drummer & also the singer ✌🏻
Rare Earth also where the drummer sings lead vocals.
@@suecook1326Hi, yes you got that right. I guess there are many more but Phil came to mind at the moment. Thanks for the reminder ✌🏻
And, of course, Ringo Starr had a couple memorable lead vocals for the Beatles. The all-time best singer (who is also a drummer) is Karen Carpenter.
Still love the Eagles but they’ll never be the same without Glenn Frey. Miss you so much Glenn, R.I.P. 💔♥️
We loss the beautiful bassist Randy Meissner last year. You should react to him singing 'Take It To The Limit', it's simply amazing. It's my most favorite song from the Eagles
Also check out ......... 'New Kid In Town, Lyin' Eyes, I Can't Tell You Why, Best Of My Love, Take It Easy, Heartache Tonight, One Of These Nights, In The City, Desperado and Life In The Fast Lane'
These are my favorite songs from this amazing band!
You definitely want to check out the live "Hell Freezes Over" version of Hotel California. It's the best version.
Love to see your reaction to this music. That's exactly how we felt in 1977!!
🎵 You can check out anytime you'de like, but you can never leave.... 🎵
The Eagles were one of the very few groups that used 5 part harmony in their vocals.
Great band , great story....Great everything !!! RIP Glenn Frye. Mostly written by double guitar Don Felder. Thanks for great music.
Check out “I Can’t Tell You Why” also Eagles…a beautiful song
Saw them do this live in concert in Las Vegas with my wife now dying of cancer. Epic. Once in a lifetime.
So sad to hear what you both Are going threw I'm praying for your wife
My interpretation is california is so unique when you come to visit or stay for awhile you cant leave l came out here in 76 and im still here in hotel california
Twin neck SG : “I’m so cool.”
Telecaster: “Hold my 🍺 “
🎸Tele’s rule.
Nothing like a cranked Telecaster .
I think this young man has a real appreciation for music and really think the reactions are genuine and fun to watch.
“Some dance to remember and some dance to forget,” is one of my favorite lines in this song. I KNEW Shon would pick up on it! Literally no reactors to this song found this line to be profound, like I had! Niiice! 🙌👌👏🫶
These guys rock the guitars, the little animals even cry in their hands, and the drums bang on their heads.
You get it. Thank you for actual listening
You can't find a bad song by the Eagles. I'm 61 - brings back so many memories!
One of the greatest fans of all time and one of the greatest songs of all time!
The Eagles are an iconic band from the ‘70’s into 80’s. Multiple member wrote songs and sang lead so they have a big variety of sound. Lots of great songs from this band! Well worth listening to more!
The band went up in talent when they put in Joe Walsh great reaction rock on
Your reactions are spot on! The guitar solo with Felder & Joe Walsh is the best ever done.
i cant imagine how hard it would be to sing while playing drums, like id be breathing so irregularly
It's a head trip, man. You should have lived through the 70s. This describes the vobes perfectly. 50 years later, still know every word.
I am 80 years old. I have heard it ALL. This is my all-time favorite group. They are AMAZING!
each member has their own unique voice and style..always a joy!
Wow, eagles are amazing! There are so many great ones to choose from. They are all crazy awesome musicians.💖💖💖💖
Eagles are fantastic. Great list of songs they have. Seven Bridges Road, Desperado, Take it to the Limit, Wasted Time. Can't go wrong with any of these being next.
I always encourage any Eagles fan to watch their documentary. Very entertaining and informative.
Man, those voices. They are stellar
You are a very perspective listener of music! Us oldies who were listening to this back in the seventies were so lucky to have so much good music around! The lyrics of the Eagles songs were so clever and insightful.
These gentlemen are in their 70’s now and I just saw them in concert and they still sound this amazing
The Eagles have no bad songs! More Eagles please!
Not to mention that slamming bass.
This song is soooo iconic
Eagles were a big band, all of them sang and played.the drum work on this song, while he sang was amazing.
The ending guitar solo is the best dueling guitars ever!
Eagles have so so so many legendary songs
As Don Henley(drummer) said this song is simply about a journey from innocence to experience
Anything by the Eagles is the bomb, one of the best live bands that you could ever go see!
Bro! You nail most of these songs! You are very spot on! Definitely one of the best out there
all time classic! ♥ BTW - it's definitely about drug addiction
I suggest these Eagles songs: Long Run, Life in the Fastlane, Victim of Love, Witchy Woman, One of These Nites & I Can't Tell You Why
Actually it was written about an old Twilight Zone episode that was never aired due to its creepy content. The title was "The Hollywood Tower Hotel" Look it up great story.
Honestly could be the best rock song, ever.
So much talent on one stage it’s mind blowing.
You interpreted it really well as it’s absolutely a metaphor about drugs and addiction. One of the best.
You nailed man..the lyrics fit the mood of the sound. So many amazing Eagles songs like this one out there!
Top draw Brother..... Dive deep into the Eagles
Shon I have watched many a reaction video, but you, by far , really analyze the lyrics and appreciate them as well as the music!
One day I saw the eagles bus pass by me. WHOA! WAS AWESOME
