    Vtec doesn’t necessarily mean it allows you to rev higher than a “regular” engine. It means you can maintain characteristics of two different types of engines within one motor. You can have lower rpm fuel economy, then when desired you can have high rpm peak power. Think of it like having an old school turbo which kicks in late. This is because the cam profile can change on the fly aka variable.

    • @VitaliyKhomich

      V-Tech allows you to rev higher is a lot shorter explanation

    I'm the proud owner of a 89 Dx CRX with a b16 swap, the 99Si is a gem because of the motor.
    If only Honda gave us the CRX, or EF and EG's with the b16'a in the states.. I've owned over a dozen Honda's in the last 20 years. I've done lots of swaps and modded many, many old 90's Honda's and Acura's. I won't ever claim my b16 crx to be "fast" But I will scream at the top of a hill to say "its a blast to drive."
    1,900lb car, Cable clutch, Manual Steering rack. No ABS, No Traction Control. Just a LSD Diff, short gears and a 8,200rpm red line, 175hp out of a 1.6L NA fwd 4cyl.
    H.O.N.D.A.= "Hold On, Not Done Accelerating" ... V.T.E.C. = "Virtually Torque less Engine Compartment"

    I still own a 2000 EBP Si that I bought new from Honda. While it isn't my daily driver anymore, oh what a ride it was/is. It has tasteful modifications, including red SPARCO Torino seats, 17" Enkei RF-1's, RS*R cat-back exhaust, and Neuspeed lowering springs. Oh yeah, it has a Jackson Racing Supercharger too. Fun fact: the 145mph speedometer (vs. the 120mph found in the lower trims) isn't for gimmick. Near red-line in 5th gear, the speed tops out at 145mph in real life. Unfortunately my Honda doesn't run at the moment, but one day it will cruise again.... or i'll use it as my coffin. Either way, it's unlikely to be sold/traded.

    • @megatop412
      @megatop412 2 года назад

      Funny you should mention the difference in the speedos. I noticed that the first time I looked inside one of these and said "Hey! How come this one goes up to 140?? Mine (a '98 EX) only goes to 120!!" Which is to say...I knew absolutely nothing about what I was looking at. What I DID know was......I wanted one and wished I had waited 1 more year to get a Civic

    • @cbh148
      @cbh148 4 года назад +1

      They started appreciating around 10 years ago. I daily drove an electron blue pearl ‘00 model for nearly 10 years starting in 2008 and added 100k problem-free miles onto the 110k it had to begin with, then sold it for a grand more than I paid. People were flocking to the car when I put it up for sale and someone bought it very quickly. Absolutely loved it and wish I still had it. Only reason I sold it was because I got back into motocross and needed something to haul my dirtbike.
